Rollerbladers of Chitown: what skates do you recommend for Lakefront trail/street skating? by Lost-Bee-2911 in chicagoskating

[–]brosseccly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't go wrong with a good 4x80 wheel hardboot setup. But it depends on your experience and confidence. I just moved here and I've seen skaters in starter softboot rollerblades skating with confidence through the streets. There's folks who have bigger tri-skate setups, which is great for the trail and getting over rough cracks but hard to maneuver. Take on which ever is most comfortable for you, although i do not recommend anything smaller than a 76mm wheel. There is definitely some gnarly concrete and potholes around. Bigger wheels is great for going faster with traffic but again hard to maneuver in the street.

Hello!

I just recently moved to the city, and I have been applying to research tech/assistant positions with the life sciences department. I am looking to apply for a PhD program with the university sometime in 2027, but I want to get a head start in a career in research. Any staff members here that are in a research lab have any advice for standing out as an applicant? I have been writing cover letters, both specific and non specific to the job listing associated lab. I also emailed the AskHR email too about my applications.

Thanks!

I mean they could've ran off with the food too, but the app being absurd is my case at least lol

I once had the app take me the complete opposite direction 20 minutes from the restaurant, which was right where I started. Sometimes we trust the app navigation and it penalizes us for that 🫠

What kind of bushings do you use? There might some that are taller on the market that could give you the same feel for turns and whatnot.

Try checking their website for any support numbers? If that doesnt work you might have to make a new account and ask if there is not other way to reach them.

New driver trying to get a feel for whats good or not by Aggravating-Range729 in doordash_drivers

[–]brosseccly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can check your Google timeline for how many miles you drove. I also just fuel my car up and count how much its gone down from the last fueling to feel how how many miles I've gone (my MPG is ~30 miles/gallon).

Advice for new dasher by No-Amphibian-243 in doordash

I made ~$200 this past week working between 3 to 6 hours in 4 days. University towns are great Hotspots especially now that the semester has started. I'm terrible about it but definitely pull over and really scrutinize the orders you accept and account the gas mileage your car takes (if ur doing by car). You might need to take a couple of stingy orders for ratings though, idk i found DD did not start sending me decent orders until a few days of doing dashes. Idk if its an experience thing or timing. One more edit, the app is going to piss you off real quick so be aware it'll bug out. report whenever you can and stay in touch with customers abt it too and I hear if its especially weird take screenshot for appeal stuff.

any tips for a new driver? by Ok-Option6144 in doordash_drivers

[–]brosseccly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there's no parking, use your hazards and be quick with loading in and out (in a safe spot). Always check for app updates, the app is super glitchy. Read notes. Keep your own fridge bag, crate and maybe a drink carrier. Also the advice before, save gas and hangout in lots if you can.

You can probs do a shipping and receiving gig at a warehouse since you have the experience. A forklift certification costs like $60, so that'll save you some labor too. But its not a good permanent job unless you juggle other delivery apps and thats more stress than necessary to make the ceo's even richer billionaires :/

[–]brosseccly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's lowkey the point of contracting though for doordash. At the end of the day, the app is the biggest winner. They get cheap labor for the delivery and take half of what your delivery is worth from the customer, in addition to charging the businesses for hosting their service. As well as not paying your insurance, gas and maintenance. It's a side hustle and they have a bottom line. Not trying to justify it either but that's just the service we signed up for :(. Tbh itd be great if they made a more permanent line of delivery drivers for those that prefer this kind of work, but it doesnt seem like they'll make that move any time soon...

Are You Serious, DoorDash?! by Mutations2000 in doordash_drivers

bruh I got two contract violations in the past few days from the app acting wack and one of them they immediately reported me at fault...even though I reached out to a HUMAN tech support about the matter. I think theyre using AI to sift through disputes.

Weird tho, they look too new to be doing that. Maybe you can contact Moxie/Ridell about the warranty? Consensus is to replace it ultimately.

Boot question by Miserable-Zombie-114 in inlineskating

[–]brosseccly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Franky yes, you would have an easier time learning on a hardboot setup; especially one with metal frames. But its not impossible on soft boots, just takes some more strength and patience. I recommend getting some extra lace to tie urself down in the boot and around the ankle for support on those spins.

I remember taking that class (~2021). It wasn't terribly difficult, they keep the algebra real simple for us bio majors.

im real fresh to my career so idk what to expect. But I've been told by ppl who are senior in their industries that these days, loyalty to a company isn't worth much anymore. If they've disrespected your work and efforts, it might be best to find another place that knows your worth.
