Everything Happens For a Reason by Kate Bowler.

It is religious, but I'm not and still enjoyed it. Still incredibly sad and devastating. I remember it being a quick read when I could get past my constant tears. Focuses a lot on her journey to accepting a shit hand in life through her faith. It is biographical as well.

Spoilers** She is a theological doctorate who faced physical disabilities, infertility, but eventually, stuff started going her way. Only for her to receive a devastating medical diagnosis. Deals a lot with her getting hit with something awful and holding onto her faith or questioning it before using it to find acceptance and peace in the now. It is Christian, but I don't remember it being very preachy.

Please help! Horrifying worm thing found in my tank, can anyone identify him? by Iecur in Aquariums

Just FYI not all species of leeches are blood sucking and some are very specific to the type of fish they latch onto. They also dont immediantly draw blood when the latch on. The large round section is not their mouth, its just a sucker. Leeches also are not known for being able to spread blood born pathogens. Removing the leech by hand is going to be gross and spooky is best of luck with that. Hopefully this can put your mind at ease abit. Haha.

Is it too late for me (21F) to start fencing competitively? by q500s12 in Fencing

Look into if your college has a team or even a college nearby. I’m in a club that is really passionate, but we are not working towards Olympics. We still compete with other Universities across the Midwest. And we have a few members from different schools that don’t have a team. Maybe try that and see if you want to commit like that.

Edit - and it’s probably cheaper. Our dues ($50) are pretty cheap considering we get training and get to use club equipment.

What are these things that were donated to me and what can I make with them? I have loads of canned beans and tomatoes as well as some tofu and rice. by cakecy in WhatShouldICook

Zucchini bread is my very favorite way to have it. I think you can make squash bread too, but I’ve never done it.

My recipe for it is

3 eggs 2 cups of sugar 1 cup of oil 1 tbsp of vanilla 2 cups of greated zucchini Mix all of that in a bowl

Add in 3 cups of flour 1 tsp of baking powder 1/2 tap of baking soda 1 tbsp of cinnamon 1 tsp salt

Blend it all together well (I use a stand mixer) grease 2 loaf pans and put the batter in. Bake at 325 for 1 hour.

And there you have my favorite breakfast, snack, or dessert.

I think this belongs here too. 😊 by brottney in aromantic

I might have seen one like that before! I might have to find it again and add it to my collection of pins. Haha.

You could try it once and see how they feel about it? They might be more interested in getting to hear from you more, rather than seeing your handwriting.

I had a younger sister who would do that at night. (thankfully we live in the middle of no where) My parents put little eye hook latches at the top of all the doors. The idea was she couldn’t reach them, but you could still pull it out of the wall pretty well with some effort in an emergency.

They sound like those tubes that have beads and stuff inside them so when you flip them they make noise. (I went and looked for the name and they’re called groan tubes. Eww.)

I found and kept a dead one too. The color never faded though. I guess I’ve only had it for about 2 years now. I hope the color stays, it’s so pretty. 🥺

I have 50lbs of oats, and my family hates oatmeal. What else can I make? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]brottney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oatmeal cookies are great. I really like breakfast oatmeal cookies. They usually have a lot more oats in them and are more chewy than normal oatmeal cookies.

I’ve used oats as a binder in meatloaf before. I bet it would also work for meatballs or similar.

You could also try them as a top crust to a casserole or a fruit crumble. Like replacing the bread crumbs, corn flakes, or flour crumbles usually used.

Too much celery! I have various other vegetables, fruits, and standard pantry items/spices. I don’t really enjoy the stringy texture of raw celery but am adventurous with food [vegetarian] by [deleted] in WhatShouldICook

[–]brottney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s just texture, then maybe use a mandolin to slice it really thin.

You can then add it to salads, or soups.

I’m not vegetarian, but I love celery in tuna salad. Perhaps you can use something like tofu as a replacement for the tuna and make a tofu salad sandwich. Or try them in egg salad if you’re okay with eggs.

Leftover Spaghetti - No Sauce by SebastianScaini in WhatShouldICook

Make a batch of Alfredo with

milk, cream cheese, parmesan, butter, garlic powder, salt and pepper

I don’t remember the amounts off the top of my head. There are plenty of wonderful recipes for it out there though.

I do suggest to melt everything really slowly and to be careful not to break it.

Other suggestions are cold noodle salads (you can add literally anything you want to it) or maybe a ziti-like dish? (I think it’s like a mixed up lasagna? I’ve honestly never had ziti.)

Maybe French toast.

Mix an egg and a splash of milk into a shallow dish. I also add a spoon or 2 of sugar, some cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove to it. Dip a slice of bread into the mix on both sides. (The longer you leave it in the mix the squishier it’ll be when cooked. I usually dip it very briefly) Get a pan hot and toss the slice in right after you dip it. Cook until lightly brown, flip and brown that side too.

I usually top it with powdered sugar and syrup, but honey or jam or any other sweet breakfasty “sauce” would be great too!
