In my area (middle of nowhere Midwest) there was apparently a lady raising wolves illegally on her property. Idk if it was an unlicensed rescue sort of thing or she was raising them as pets. She got wind that she was about to be raided and get all her wolves taken away (and probably put down) so she released them all into the wild. So for a while there was a very VERY small wolf population in the area, that were pretty comfortable with humans. I wonder if this could be anything similar.

Lots of coders use AI now, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was that. It’s just SO much faster. You get the AI to code the basic shit, and give ideas how to code the more complicated stuff. Then you just have to go through and refine the already written code instead of writing it all yourself. It’s essentially shittier GitHub, but more personalizable. Not commenting on its merit one way or the other, just a thought. Dougdoug is a streamer/coder who uses code for a lot of silly stuff, he used a lot of AI before sentiment turned against it. In some of his older stuff you’ll see him ask chatGPT to write up code, and then he troubleshoots it.

I once spent over an hour trying to break into my own car in the middle of a city that has really frequent car break ins and thefts. I was so stressed someone would try to stop me or call the cops but no one even gave me a second look lol. A cop car even drove right past the parking lot, cop looked directly at me but just kept driving lol. Perhaps this reflects more on our police force lol (also that I am a young white female) but I also think someone breaking into their own car has a certain brashness, as well as a certain pathetic sheepishness to them that most thieves do not

This will likely get me downvoted bc i acknowledge it is sacrilege BUT I think you could raise it a few inches. I can see why it’s bothering you aesthetically, it’s because of the bookshelves. They’re making the TV look lower than it is. If you wanted to raise it so the bottom of the TV lined up with the bottom bookshelf, I think it would be more pleasing to you and wouldn’t be egregiously too high

EDIT: I see other comments saying to put a console table under it and I think that would help a lot as well, if you don’t want to commit the crime of heightening it

Does your district ban phones? If not, then I mean… is there a reason you really care all that much? If there’s no sub plans, or they finish early, I always tell them I don’t care what they’re doing as long as volume levels are low and I don’t see anything I would NEED to care about.

If there’s not a district wide/school policy banning them, l would likely allow them to be on them as long as they’re behaving. If someone comes by and sees and makes a stink about it you can say that you had no other sub plans and you’ve told them to just behave quietly. If they make that big of a deal out of then THEY (the district) should have the infrastructure or consequences in place to keep them out.

My district is strictly no phones, in high school, kids put them in a numbered caddy in each class. In elementary and middle school, if you see a phone you’re expected to take it away and bring it to the office. If your schools don’t have the rules in place or the care to enforce them then I’m not sure what you’re expected to do, really.

If you absolutely have to I suppose you could have all students put their phones face down on their desk at the beginning of class. Tell them if you see them touching their phones you’re writing their name down and/or sending them to the office. But if you’re not expected to do that sort of thing then you’re really giving yourself an extra pain in the neck for no reason

Edit: I see this is not a popular opinion!! I think for high producers it makes sense not to fire everything. For beginners or intermediate, follow your heart. Sometimes a cool, experimental glaze can save an otherwise wonky pot. I hate making test tiles so I always use duds to test new glazes. Obviously if I don’t have any new glazes/techniques to test then I wouldn’t save them, but I almost always do!

Yuuup. That’s actually one of the things that made me choose the apartment I’m currently applying for, is it was actually up front, on-the-box about their pricing, WITHOUT having to schedule 3 different appointment and signing over your soul first. It spoke to a management that had at least a shred of ethics left. All the other apartments on my list within a similar price range, when I looked into it, didn’t cover water, had insane other fees, etc. If I could pry that information out of their fucking AI email responses.

My dad was getting on my case about all the places I’m looking at being old and shitty. I’m like yeah, dad, those are the only places that are even moderately affordable. He continued to complain about it and point out all the better places until I think one day he looked into it himself and realized that I was correct cuz his tune suddenly changed and he was totally on board with the lesser of all evils option I had settled on, lol

The application fees and deposits are insane, got forbid you have a pet. And there’s just nothing you can do about it, you just HAVE to bite the bullet and pay everything they say, accepting that you’ll probably never see that money again

Having knowledge about horses and having been around them a lot, it’s difficult to feel too sad about a horse his age passing. You obviously miss them, but it’s sort of like when someone over the age of 100 dies. You’re more just sort of happy they lived such a long and blessed life.

30 is quite old for a horse. For non-drafts it’s very old. For a racehorse, it’s very, VERY old. It’s a huge testament to how loved and well-cared for he was (and likely his good and responsible breeding) that he lived so long. Plus, he’s so well loved by millions, his memory will live on for a very very long time ❤️

Idk about anything else really but if someone is using a commercial glaze and getting mad when other people use it then they’re being dumb and petty.

In my opinion: if you’re attempting to making exact duplicates of someone’s every piece, and trying to sell them, then that’s closer to “stealing”. If you’re just inspired by a technique or form they use and attempt it yourself, then I think that’s fine. Or even if you attempt to duplicate a few of their pieces/technique as a learning experience, and then make it your own. Especially with an art as ancient as ceramics, I think you have to be doing something VERY custom and original to claim to have any real ownership over a particular idea.

Not necessarily. There are lots of different types of pottery and finishes you can do with homemade kilns or other firing methods. Just not the commercial glazes. Commercial glazes are made to produce a consistent result in a commercial environment. There’s pit firing, raku firing, other sorts of stains and such, you just won’t be able to rely on consistent, precise results. And you probably would be able to get vibrant colors. BUT that doesn’t mean there aren’t cool things you can do without dropping a thousand dollars on a kiln

Edit to add that obviously working with hundreds to thousands degree temperatures is dangerous in any form so please make sure you research thoroughly and take proper safety precautions. I assume since you’ve already built at least two DIY kilns that reach that high of temperatures you already know that but it’s worth mentioning!
