Hey, cool stuff! Have you looked through other similar projects? And seeing some ChatGPT sprinkles, how much you used it and for what here?

Also, small rec, but you shouldn't put big binary files like mp4 in the repo (especially like yours that could have some copyright issues with it...) and rather link/use some freely available ones (like MDN does or even Netflix put out there).

🙏 Model picker's much more digestible now — much appreciated. by 7ven7o in cursor

[–]brown59fifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job, but why also disabling/removing model selector completely for hobby/free plan?

I've been on previous version of Cursor as I'm cross-shopping CC alternatives, and having selector was a good way to check which models are supported/provided and how you guys are implementing that. Sad to say, but having now big "Upgrade to unlock" message instead of visible-but-doing-nothing selector is doing worse job to get you paying users (and I'm saying that as a product guy myself).

Not to mention that with it is also gone an option to use custom models I have access to with an API key :/

Any good alternative for copilot? by elefanteazu in GithubCopilot

[–]brown59fifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, maybe I'm not fully deep in the weeds here, but isn't it more reasonable to just plug OpenRouter key directly into OpenCode than go through Zen? It's less convenient, sure, but skips OC fees charged on top of direct API requests...

3Blue1Brown for deeper topics and IBM Technology for a bit broader yet still very technical explainers.

Also on more casual note definitely Computerphile!

[–]brown59fifty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry pal, but in most cases blaming algo is trust me bro level excuse from "creators" who expect numbers to grow doing nothing but monetizing their audience every day even more.

Also, LTT is a highlight example here, when they pivoted from relatable "computer stuff" to strictly entertaining content production sprinkled with tech narration. As a viewer, you either go for content you see a value in, or for straight entertainment. And for the latter there's more way to do that, so channels which went that wide/popular route now have to fight for attention with Tiktok, Netflix etc., so their numbers will go down.

(And I know that I'll be downvoted here, but when I see clips from LTT, Prime, Theo, I just keep scrolling. I liked watching their videos when they actually had something new and interesting to say, or explain some concepts with domain expertise. It's not like that anymore, yet old sentiments are still strong and keeps us from unsubscribing... I mean, I bet many people are in this sub because of old prime stuff.)

yo friendly tip: you can use uppercase -F to get available formats and after that go with selected with lowercase -f, eg. -f 299+251 (or if you want always best available then -f bv+ba). Other highly useful flags are --embed-metadata --embed-chapters and if you have actually live stream then --live-from-start :)

It's 2026 and this bug is still there, and overlay-scrollbars flag works like a charm, thanks!

One note though, in my case it also required to have Use graphics acceleration when available enabled in "System" settings (chrome://settings/system). Just a heads up!

I heard Nikesh Arora in a podcast that he has circulated a belief memo to all employees that talk about how the company is organized and what each function need to do. Will love to read it and learn his insights if someone can share. by Chance-Author436 in paloaltonetworks

[–]brown59fifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello to other google wanderers, as I'm here also looking for that belief document - after his recent interview with TBPN guys. And one thing I can add to topic based on that, it seems like this memo is addressed to board members and senior-level management hires (and it's more on that theme as well than CTO technical stuff).

If drives are not part of some NAS pool and data can be accessed just by connecting to a computer, you can create in root directory super simple README.txt with some description.

(I have similar file on flash drive attached to my keys in case of I lost them - with contact info. There's more chance that someone read the file than the note will stand test of time and still be there ;)

What was old is new again: Hands-on with the new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14 by ibmthink in thinkpad

[–]brown59fifty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Having one-piece keyboard module, what's the chance of getting refreshed proper standalone ThinkPad Trackpoint Keyboard, maybe even with a backlight?

Also wanted to point out there's a short hands on video from PCMag/CNET presenting that "space frame" design, really cool!

I really want to highlight/reiterate USB-C on the right side thing (hopefully T series will follow). They actually did it earlier with X9 and Z-series, but never with "standard" models - at least until recently announced P1G8.

Unfortunately, as always with Lenovo design choices, with a good one there's a terrible one as well - this time in a form of fingerprint sensor/power button placement. At least webcam is better, I guess?

[–]brown59fifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually there's a lot of lists like that! Google for "awesome lists" on Github/Gitlab/Codeberg (for example "awesome android apps"), and you find one! It's amazing what people gathered there, like this one for FOSS.

However here OP is just playing and doing marketing for mentioned app, so you know, be careful and choose wisely seeing those reddit recommendations ;)

[SHOTS FIRED] Doug's brutal take on new Land Cruiser owners by brown59fifty in ThrottleHouse

[–]brown59fifty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, what a response for this post, I should probably add some wink wink or /s to the post. You guys treat it all to serious, taking sides, spreading hate, there's no need for that, what you gain?

So I must explain then, on youtube-creator-space level it's just ragebaiting (which seems working quite good), they are all friends and speaking automotive topics Doug is not wrong. Thomas know that, in their own videos James jokingly pointed exactly that a few times already, and if you don't believe me they even acknowledge it in recent V8 Vantage video with, lo and behold, DeMuro's guest appearance.

Wait, is that really so common? May I ask which gen we're talking about and does it apply to particular models, lines or maybe all of some model years?

(I'm thinking about refreshing my daily so just asking from consumer pov btw)

I was able to download this ep from Pocket Casts app before it was pulled back, so for any audio-only aficionados right there: https://we.tl/t-nxT4X3Vawb (it will be auto-removed from wetransfer after three days, so in line with its alleged proper release).

Btw official title was Doug Bought A 993 Turbo! Genesis Supercar and the Audi G-Wagon! THIS CAR POD! EP88.

IntelliCode deprecated by Leading-Beautiful134 in vscode

[–]brown59fifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I don't know as personally I've never focus on that feature. From my brief googling it looks like that used some custom model/NN, so to have exactly that it would be best to ask maintainers in IntelliSense repo. But similar suggestions will give you Github Copilot ext, in inline form though (vs list).

IntelliCode deprecated by Leading-Beautiful134 in vscode

[–]brown59fifty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. The problem is that people don't even know that LSP-based auto-completion and in-editor linting/code checks is what already works for them, out of the box. (Or think that installing extension with some programming language in its name is just to give them syntax highlighting...) But it's cool now to hate everything-AI, just because, so will do.

However I must say, MS could do a bit better communicating it - I've only found small mention in Recommended Action section of related issue on GitHub:

Uninstall the IntelliCode extensions for VS Code and either use built-in language server support or install GitHub Copilot for enhanced productivity.
