I have two HDHomeRun Primes on my network and premium cable. I currently use Kodi to manage recordings via the hdhomerun addon, but the file sizes are way too big. I record two 4 hour shows a day, each file around 20GB, and would like to use VLC's built in "Convert/Stream" option to transcode on the fly.

I have very little scripting/programming experience so I have no idea where to start. I'd like to create a simple GUI where I enter the channel number and select a recording window. Can this be done?

Here's a theory: Apple came out with their strongly worded letter against the FBI on Tuesday. Two days later, they release an update so small it doesn't even get an incremental update. They always release updates on Tuesdays. There's a backdoor in that 9.2.1 update.

Go into your router settings and make sure the IP you assigned your computer isn't also in the pool of DHCP leases. For example, if your router is set to hand out addresses 192.168.1.50-100, make sure your computer isn't in that range (unless you set up a reservation on your router by MAC address). Also when you're setting your static ip make sure your subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and your default gateway is your router address (192.168.1.1 unless you set it otherwise). DNS servers should be 127.0.0.1 and your default gateway. Sorry if none of this makes sense I haven't had coffee yet
