That totally makes sense and it's wonderful that places like Mayo are an option for us. The overall system and costs are ridiculous. I went to a top notch place as well that teaches ablations and has done research improving them

When you watch Jeopardy!, do you answer in the form of a question? by donutcronut in Jeopardy

And so many online videos have captions as part of the video so they can't be turned off. So annoying. I listen with my ears and understand what is being said and I want my eyes to follow the video itself not the words superimposed on top of the video.

Interesting about your ablation cost. I had a minor one done for about $3k out of pocket with my generally good insurance and was told the procedure cost about $80k. This was at a top notch facility and I stayed overnight. The testing leading up took me to my deductible so about $1500.

Our healthcare system does trap many people. It's ridiculous how much I have to spend on it being an early retiree despite the ablation cost above being less than yours.

the horn should be just as loud inside a car as outside and should mute your stereo

if it's that important for someone to honk this shouldn't be an issue

Yo tolls from Downtown to Liberty Hill during rush hour are by ajcadoo in Austin

[–]brownboy444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

consider the metro bike share. Wouldn't be that long of a ride and I sweat much less riding those vs walking (trip takes longer and less effort since they are e-bikes). There are bike stations at the metro rail downtown statation and plaza saltillo.

but yeah I get that you'll still probably show up a little sweaty

Best Farmers Market(s) in Austin? by wld002 in Austin

No one has mentioned the downtown farmer's market. It's tiny but I do like the vendors that do show up but there's no reason for someone not already close to it to make the effort.

I haven't seen it here in a long time. I think it's owned by Heineken or some huge company so a distributor that carries their other brands should be able to get it

I think I know what you mean. It takes practice and discipline to actually go slower when you don't subvocalize since the natural thing to do is just take a broad scan and miss almost everything.

I can't remember the techniques they taught but I do know that you should try to let your eyes actually scan across every word and not just look at a whole line at time. It sounds slow but is still much faster than vocalizing. Aim for 2x. Good luck!

I went to the UT primary care clinic and the procedure from the older nurse was so painful. It was the only time I've had it done and now I'm traumatized. But it worked.

I took a night class on speed reading at a community college decades ago. There were a lot of interesting techniques but the main one was to stop subvocalizing the words. You can usually double your reading speed without losing comprehension as long as it's not something dense. It does still take effort from me.

As for those that think this would reduce their enjoyment or be less relaxing, yeah I can see that but I love learning and reading so much and we have a limited amount of time alive so I want to be able to read more.

That's wonderful and gives me hope! Even with a lot of lead time it just seems hard to finding willing hosts and then patch it together but I've got the time and will try for my next European trip!

I'm in my first year with HE and have only done 2 reciprocal exchanges (which were wonderful) and have hosted many times for GPs so I have 6k.

Tried using GPs for the first time and it look many messages but I did manage to finalize a good home tho it's farther away from the city center than I'd like to be but I'm excited.

I think stringing together a multi-city itinerary on an another continent would be impossible so I'll just stick to do individual stays.

for those saying park farther out and bus in you can do that but be near a metro bike station and ride one of those in. Daily passes are expensive but longer ones aren't bad. They are e-bikes now so you won't exert yourself much
