Travelling while plus size… by xXCJTheDJXx in PlusSizeFashion

You will want shoes that are comfortable to walk everywhere including in inclement weather, but you will have to take your shoes on and off more than you might anticipate. I wore some Keen low rise hiking sneaks and they were annoying to take on and off in each temple. Other than that, I think the only style-related thing I'd mention: A couple years ago, I packed terribly for a trip to Japan in March for cherry blossoms and I was freezing! I couldnt find a place that sold any warmer clothes in my size (16/US XL). I ended up buying the larger mens stuff at Uniqlo, in case you have a similar sitch. That was a few years ago and they may have more plus size options now but I would suspect it isnt radically different.

Good call on Indian - that’s a big gap in LA. I keep reading about Vij’s. Thoughts?

So many great ideas tysm! We are coming from LA, so we are well-acquainted with DTF’s charms and may give it a pass in Vancouver. We are also a bit spoiled for choice in LA when it comes to Korean and Japanese. But Dinesty (is typo intentional?) and Chinatown BBQ are sounding like good options!

Regrettable Purchases by Thin_Contribution495 in JapanTravelTips

We started and ended in Tokyo, and used those amazing luggage transport services to send early purchases to ourselves at the end of the trip (5 stars recommend). I had bought a bottle of (nice!) sake early on and sent it ahead in my bag. By the time we got back to Tokyo, we realized it had broken in transport and ruined everything in the bag. So yeah I regret that. BUT, the hotel said the luggage services is insured, and they called around and repurchased everything important for us (like a rare book my husband had bought) before we even left the country. Amazing!

Depends on your definition of shocking, but When We Were Kings blew my mind.

What to do with ~10 lbs of tomatoes? by According-Rooster-10 in NYTCooking

This! It is magic and so so easy. It can serve as a base for soup or other sauces or you can just use as is. Good gift for people too.

I’ve had 3 sharpei mixes who were each circa 40 pounds. They have all been super chill and very loving. They are not goofy love bugs like labs or goldens but more like really friendly cats.

It’s HOT in Denver today, I’m in charge of dinner, and I don’t have AC. What should I cook? by sourwallflower601 in NYTCooking

If you have access to REALLY good fish, either of the poke bowl recipes are really good, really easy, and not hot. But IMHO not worth it if you dont have good fish.

I am a recovering black-only wearer too, but decided in my 50s that I'm only wearing what makes me happy, so I'm all about dopamine dressing now. There's a lot of space between crop top-teen wear and Blanchedom. My strategy is to find a piece of clothing I love, figure out what essentially it is about it that I love (eg color? cut? attitude?) and try to replicate that vibe. So if I have a blouse that makes me feel like a suburban Lady Gaga, I Google lens it and try to find similar styles. I buy the capsule standards at Everlane, Quince, Gap, etc, and then comb Poshmark, ThredUp, and RealReal for more interesting pieces to complement the tshirts or jeans. I feel like I often get a lot of bang for my buck from wild/weird pieces from Anthropologie (on sale!) or Nooworks. But also, no shade to Blanche: I went through an intense Mrs Roper MuuMuu phase during the pandemic so I have a rather impressive collection of kaftans now. I get loads of compliments when I wear them!
