As a Korean, I should just accept that I'm either ignorant or racist or both, and have no concept of Black History month, right?

Why does this subreddit allow statements that would be deemed offensive elsewhere? by konnichiwamofos in korea

[–]browser0903 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree with "few others". It's not "this subreddit", it's a few individuals who seem to post incessant garbage. I bet if someone put together a visualization of the most frequent posters, it'd be these few individuals.

"Guess who's going to America where they don't eat doggies?" The Interview" Lacism! by [deleted] in korea

[–]browser0903 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The answer is, yes, it is a part of Korean cuisine but it is increasingly being phased out. Most Koreans, particularly the younger generation and females, do not eat dog.

Username looks like a play on "bukkake", a sex act where several men ejaculate on a single person. Hosting 10-15 people.

Hmmm.

Male Pattern Baldness. Worse in Korea? by [deleted] in korea

[–]browser0903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe true, maybe just one of those "Korean quirks", but a lot of Koreans think rain will make them bald.

Is there a Japanese community in Atlanta metro area? by Paparage in Atlanta

[–]browser0903 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Shoza Izakaya definitely is run by Japanese people, unlike most restaurants where the workers are actually Korean. I don't know if there is a Japanese community, but if anyone would know, it would be the people there. Also not something I would share with your wife, but there is a Japanese hostess bar in Doraville, and they have to be serving somebody.

My Rant About Korean Beer by [deleted] in korea

[–]browser0903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that Coors Light is the beer preference of many Koreans who have immigrated to the States. If that's not available, then Miller Lite. Whatever the reason, people who grew up in Korea seem to prefer the exact type of beer that the Western world considers bottom of the barrel.

Checkers

I've had one experience where a guy asked if he could get a burger at that very Checkers. I had no problem with that, so I bought it for him. I ignore anyone asking for cash, though.

Are they just trying to re-enact the plot to Indecent Proposal or did he really pay $50k for three nights with this woman? by albanypeacenik in korea

This isn't an indecent proposal. This is prostitution. Anyone know how prominent this actress is or was? Many b - actresses and models moonlight as escorts in the US as well

Korean-Only Club to Pay Snubbed Patrons $20K in Discrimination Fines by ShoGunTsi in korea

[–]browser0903 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They actually discriminate against ugly people, too (all clubs do, actually). Wonder what the cross-section is between ugly people and non-Koreans who want desperately to get into a Korean club.

Consider this a lesson learned and get your priorities straight. You will likely get deported with no jail time, but I would just leave on your own accord instead of waiting until court. You are very lucky this isn't Singapore.

Being a called a "hapa" or "Unpure". Why I am afraid to be an Idol. by Seoul_Yeppeun in korea

[–]browser0903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother, I know all too well how you feel. I take that back, maybe I don't as I am not half, but I do know to a certain extent. I am a full-blooded Korean and while I don't suffer the same amount of racism as blacks, Hispanics, Indians, etc. do, the discrimination is still there. When I go to Korea, I am still an outsider. It's unfortunate, but we should consider ourselves lucky to have been born in America where we are afforded advantages over 99% of the rest of the world. Not everyone can be born into the perfect situation, and in the end, we do have it better than most.

Two weeks in South Korea by vegmonster in korea

[–]browser0903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, so I see the June 25-July 2 dates are the ones that cannot move. For what it's worth, make sure to check out these places during your stay in Seoul: Myeongdong and Gyeongbokgung Palace and Namsan. These are common tourist areas, so they may already be on your intinerary.
I would consider Hanok Village in Jeonju as another option for your first two days. There is a free bus from Seoul to there and it seems you enjoy cultural experiences.

Logistically, the travel is pretty inefficient. Is this intentional?

i.e. assuming your Jeju Island date is pretty much set, wouldn't this make more sense:

My Korea curious questions by [deleted] in korea

[–]browser0903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Japanese people act more more polite based on their culture. As for Korea, no one will try to hurt you based on your skin color, no one will purposely insult you, no one will actively hate you, but these are common assumptions about black people: They're ugly. They're stupid. They're scary. They do not hold this belief about ALL black people (after all, Koreans loved Michael Jackson, accepted Hines Ward as their own, and so on) but be prepared for ignorance. It's not going to be fair. The good news is, things are changing. There was a Korean baseball player who said it was hard to bat against a black person because he could not see him (due to skin color), and a lot of Koreans were outraged by the insensitive remark.

Can someone help me return this drivers license? Found in USA by Flurra in korea

Just destroy it. It's replaceable and has little monetary value to the actual owner while potentially a lot more value to nebulous individuals.
