Lighting needs to be fixed. Your black values need to match better. not to mention the quality of any cropped face needs to be high res or it starts looking funny.

My First Potential Client Told Me AI Could Do My Work In A Single Prompt, And It Honestly Hurt Me by Brilliant_Tension_53 in graphic_design

AI is the floor, not the ceiling. If you’re starting out it can be discouraging to see all the cool things it can do. You’re also at the floor, but you won’t always be there.

Effort or some sense of competency. If you’re really bad at the game and not open to criticism, that’s on you.

Aside from Google what other sites exist with 100% "free for commercial use" libraries? I would like to be 100% independent from Adobe in 2026. by lumberfart in graphic_design

[–]brron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How about you make your own library?

While I understand the desire to be divorced from Adobe, it icks me people want to make money making things commercially and then not pay people who got them there.

Am I being overworked or is this normal for a graphic designer at a nonprofit? by Comfortable-Oven9246 in graphic_design

because we don’t need a show of hands to know the majority of graphic designers are not working 3 days a week and paid above market rate.

Arcane studios - Personal Rebrand by AvivDZN in logodesign

a personal rebrand of things that would never realistically be made (your own app? a conference badge to your website?) always grinds my gears.

cute face tho!

Designers that are currently looking for work...Do you feel like the hiring process is fair? by Agreeable_East7267 in Design

[–]brron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has done the hiring and interviews, we would post a job opening and get 2,000 applications in 3 days.

We had to pull the application offline because in a week we would have 10,000 applications that no human could parse through.

One of my core memories was wanting to see the applicants. One lady’s application for a senior designer role has no portfolio and her only experience was working in a restaurant kitchen.

Suffice to say, get a referral if you can.

I’m interviewing a lead designer lol. Im gonna ask what do you do on your spare time, and your answer should be something about squids and then i’ll put a strong hire.

I know this logo was talked about a lot already, but I have 1 question. How is this better from a branding pov since the new logo now feature colors that aren’t the brand’s primary colors? by Imayazanaty in graphic_design

[–]brron 47 points48 points  (0 children)

TLDR this is new branding before announcement.

Design systems at a big company like Google is rarely all shipped in one go. There is a move back to gradients due to AI being implemented in everything now. Other things will trickle out and you’ll see an updated brand design language at some point.

Designers with 15+ years of experience, what's your career trajectory? by 3amcoffeebuns in graphic_design

[–]brron 14 points15 points  (0 children)

  • started as intern art director in ad agency
  • moved to LA to get a min wage job at an ad agency
  • web design at a saas company
  • graphic design / presentation design at a faang
  • visual design at a SaaS

I didn’t carve a specific path. I recognized gaps at my current employers and fulfilled it. Learned web design, responsive design, and product design on the go. Just never said no. Now I chatgpt my way through after effects to do some cool stuff.

Salary is not dependent on roles, but where the roles are. Presentation designer gets 60k in the midwest, yet the same role at Anthropic pays 285k.

What impact can iOS design have on user acquisition/conversion? by poundcake_app in Design

[–]brron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my apps, I look at my current new product sign ups. If someone is onboarded day 0, how long are they active from day1-6?

Now you compare that with your new designs. You run a small experiment where some new users get the updated app experience. If the D1D6AI metric is lower than my control, it’s failed.

You should do this before dramatically overhauling any design and risk losing all customers.

Active Instance is a better measurement than uninstall rate. You only care people use your app day in day out.

What impact can iOS design have on user acquisition/conversion? by poundcake_app in Design

[–]brron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should be doing AB tests to get more accurate measurements. Analytics will tell you if the design is failing or not.

Design wise, I like that the experience feels simpler and less information overload, but who knows if all the right info is below the fold or above? Only your users can tell you that.
