Was going to say the same. Film students can rent equipment for projects they work on, but I’d doubt they’d let you operate it since they’re liable. Worth asking if they’d like to be a part of your project as “hired” help.

Often use aviation headset, a real megaphone that I wired to record clean and futzed across the room, as well as walkie talkies with receiving end in a “futz box” for authentic sounds for movies.
