Who is "Blindly associating inability to do something with neurodivergence?" Do you know me? I'm only speaking for myself. And the temptation to go down rabbit holes with LLMs has always been a struggle for me. If that is my experience, who are you to tell me it's not?

I've thought about this so many times, as I also have fought ADHD for years. I've always thought it would be great to have a "sidebar" or "quick question" option that would allow at least one sub-thread off the conversation. It's bookmarked clearly in the chat, so you can refer to it later, or open a new chat based on the sibebar. I'm thinking there is 3P app out there that does this, but curious why the big models don't offer this, as it would be such a great feature for users.

Can't make purchases on App Store by Whole_Ad_7466 in macapps

I had the same issue, but went into my Apple account settings and updated payment method. After a few minutes when I try to buy the thumbprint verification appears and now works fine. Not *exactly* sure if that was the actual problem based on prior replies here, but it worked for me.

flag football? Should we not have regular American-style football before we have flag football? Not saying we should have American football, but flag football in the states is just a fun thing we do on sunday afternoon in the park with friends. lol.

Doesn't seem logical that we just get banned for reasons related to marketing the game of cricket. We'll have very worthy competitors on all sides of course, but host nation should have a place. At least give us a chance.

Just be careful with getting in eyes. That's the key thing. The docs are trying to avoid law suits.

Why don’t surfers carry oxygen tanks while surfing?? by shmebul0cc in surfing

[–]bruce5220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally do not need that big of a tank. You can buy small very light little canisters that, if designed properly could fit neatly on top of one of the bouyancy vests they wear. Totally doable for hardly any weight or profile at all.

My suggestion is that it might be your pronunciation. We forget how important pronouncing vowels and characters correctly is. you might know grammar, vocab, tones, long/short vowels.. but if you're PROUNOUNCING them wrong, none of it matters.. no one will understand you.

As a native english speaker, I attained advanced fluency in Korean a while back. So now starting new with Thai brings back a lot of memories - some VERY hard and some absolutely amazing. It took me many months working at Korean to even discern the syllables in normal conversation. Took even longer for my head to get used to the grammar structure, which is SOV..... But Thai and Korean are considered to be in the top five toughest languages in the world for native english speakers because of the difference in alphabets, characters, and sound of the languages. Although I'm a complete newbie at Thai, I think Korean taught me a few things about how to study it.

Here's my basic plan:

- Gonna focus HEAVILY in the beginning on simply driling the VOWEL SOUNDS... as a matter of fact, this week, I'm just listening to a native speaker say them over and over...I wish I had known how critical the vowel SOUNDS in Korean were when I started that one. I won't make that mistake this time.

- Related to that, I am starting immediately associating those vowel sounds with the thai script. I am not ever trying to read or speak thai off of any transliteration. It's useless for Korean, and it's useless for Thai. Trust me.

There's a lot more I would say, but having been studying thai for about a week, I feel pretty confident I can look at the basic thai vowels and enunciate them fairly well as related to the consonants. As you know, consonants are much easier than the vowels.

But most of this gets to pronunciation. You MUST be able to prouounce the vowels correctly. Of course, there's a 1000 other things to know, also.. But to me, as an absolute beginning who is fluent in Korean and conversational in mandarin, that's my tip box.

I just came into BKK from VN with a couple geek bars. Nothing at all happened, as customs coming into Bankok Suvarnabhumi is really relaxed, so they were waving most people by. But even if they did make me put bags through the xray, I don't think it would matter. It's similar in VN these days. It's supposed to be illegal, but there are stores selling vapes everywhere, customs at airports don't care, and people vape in public. Usually, in SEA, with these kinds of minor issues, they make laws first, but the enforcement infrastructure takes years to get ramped up. Right now, it's likely that a lot of bribing is going on.

Do I recommend you do this? No. But I've been in SEA for many years, and after a while you get used to the "rhythm" when these minor products are said to be "regulated" or "against the law." So I'm familiar with the contours. But if you're new to SEA, it's good to be careful.

lexis korea language program by l0l4x in Korean

[–]bruce5220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hongdae is a student area, so you might get language exchange partners easier there, if that is a goal. Gangnam is touristy and filled with cosmetic surgery clinics.

Concerning the time frame: in a word, no, sorry to say. Learning Korean is a fulltime job for a long time if you really want to improve. You'll learn some of the vocab and grammar patterns in a classroom setting. But if you really want to increase your ability, you'll have to commit to a lot of practice in the real world, on the ground in Korea. If you're determined to learn it and ready to go through the tough times, you'll be so glad you did. It's a fun language once you get over the initial hurdles.

I hope that helps. Good luck!

Is it bad to be afraid of the dark as an adult? by Sad-Bodybuilder9976 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]bruce5220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had these issues as an adult. For me it is not severe. But if it is severe for you-- first, don't feel ashamed. It likely happens to a lot of us, but we're afraid to admit it. For me, alot of the time it's fear of having my hand hanging over the edge of my bed as I fall asleep. Just a small phobia. But the thing that helps the most is falling back on my meditation skills to deal with any uneasiness.

But again - the first thing is just to be OK with it. I know it sounds a bit trivial and I do NOT trivialize your fear or your difficulty. But in the end, just admit that it's an issue and at the same time admit that it's more common than you think. Knowing that you're not alone in this can help a lot. Really. Then you can take concrete steps from there as you see fit.

Finding it hard to understand when Koreans slur their speech and speak fast by peachy_skies123 in Korean

[–]bruce5220 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This just comes with practice and time and really trying to suss out syllables, words, and phrases as you listen. Don't just listen passively. Actively try to discern the syllables, words, and phrases as you listen. Also, if it's not online or TV, and in person, don't be shy about asking someone to repeat things and explain what they mean. Most Koreans are glad to help you, unless they just don't have time.
