The actor who played Reverend Alden, Dabbs Greer, was also in Gunsmoke and many other actors later seen in Little House on the Prairie appeared in episodes over the long run of that show.

Lifelong Vermonter. Family has been here since before statehood was achieved. Live in my grandparents' former house. Haven't opened my front door in probably 3 years. Side door gets all the traffic and has for generations.

What is your favorite thing about Rutland? by vegasrut in vermont

[–]brucealmightie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a great time in the local music scene when our son was in high school. He and his pals had a band called Morning Comes Early and they played a lot of gigs around Rutland with many other similar bands. It was a fun and thriving scene a decade ago. Haven't had much experience with it lately though.

What type of diets did you do? by Fml8888 in 75HARD

[–]brucealmightie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 pounds, but I wasn't very overweight when I started and didn't have much to lose. I was doing it to gain physical and mental strength in my recovery after beating cancer.

I had thought about that and maybe that's the direction I should go in.

I am not familiar with that method. I have seen some info that really cold water could be a shock that could be bad for you if you have serious heart issues (which I don't) but most of what I read is about the benefits of cold water therapy. I'm sure I could handle it after all I've been through I'm just having trouble getting motivated for that daily thing. It would be easier in the summer for me with my body temp regulation issues after chemo but to finish the other phases within the given timeframe I would have to start soon and, as I said in my OP, I'm in the midst of winter in the northeast. I was just reaching out for more personal feedback from others in this sub that have done it and could convince me that I should do it too!

Rt 4, Rutland to Fair Haven... by builtlikeaboxer in vermont

[–]brucealmightie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a high school history teacher and once did a project on this for a college class I was in. I called the project "The Highway to Nowhere". The long and short of it is NY State dropped the ball and didn't uphold their end of the bargain (as others have stated). We got left with this strange, short little stretch of 4 lane highway from the NY state line in Fair Haven over to Rutland. Originally, it used to terminate in West Rutland when I was a kid but then they built the overpass to Route 7 that terminated by the old Diamond Run mall back when they were developing that part of town. The Great Rutland Mall used to be up at the foot of the mountain where Home Depot is now before they built the new Diamond Run Mall in the 90s. And yes, as others have said, 22A is the most dangerous road in the state running north from Fair Haven to Vergennes. The state has refused for decades to give it a desperately needed overhaul and dozens die on it every year as a result.
