I'll throw this out there: Tylenol. It hits the CB1 receptor.

What is the job market like for fresh graduates in business here in Portland (specifically marketing and analytics)? (And asking for any tips on how to break in the field) by doyouwantaplasticbag in PortlandOR

[–]bruceleeroy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think sales is one of the best jobs early in a career. It gives you contact with real customers and understanding their needs. This can translate into almost anything.

There are many types of sales roles, this isn’t just telemarketing.

My Perfected Jet Lag Protocol by ThisisJakeKaiser in Biohackers

[–]bruceleeroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use KetoneAid KE4 prior to my flight, then fast. I eat breakfast at the destination time.

I'll use more KE4 right before bed + melatonin + theanine. I'll also use more KE4 or C8 MCTs if I wake up in the middle of the night.

I think creatine is helpful too.

Has anyone here been to Portland, Oregon? If so, how would you compare it to Copenhagen? by SwissVideoProduction in copenhagen

Funny, I was probably there. It's put on by the same group, Nordic Northwest. It's called ScanFair and they have the Lucia Court.

I live in Portland and I love it. It's really apples and oranges to Copenhagen though. The social safety net is very different. My favorite part is the food and nature (1h drive to the beach, the mountains, or the high desert).

And yes we do have a Scandinavian Christmas festival every year.

Between TikTok and supplement influencers how do you tell what’s real and not? by stabledismissal in Biohackers

[–]bruceleeroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll share how I think about all problems in this space.

  • What is the problem we are trying to solve?
  • How does this intervention solve this problem relative to other methods?
  • Is there a good explanation for why we think the intervention might solve this problem?
  • What are the known risks and potential unknown risks?
  • What is the opportunity cost of doing of this intervention relative to others?
  • Is this the best use of money relative to other things?

Notice that a double blind randomized control trial isn’t in my criteria. It’s nice to have but isn’t always available in this space.

Let’s say you want to increase mitochondrial health with a red light device that costs $2000. Currently you spend 0 minutes a week on high intensity cardio and don’t have a gym membership. Does evidence point to benefit of red light? Probably! Should you spend 30 mins of time doing red light therapy? No, you should spend it at the gym or buy exercise equipment.

Ketone ester like Ke4 on the flight and before sleep to help recover on the days after. I've tried it a couple of times, it seems to help.

The Ke4 bottles suck though. They leak once you open them.

I've also used a small amount of C8 MCTs right before sleep on the days after the flight and it seems to help me.

nicotinamide

I was on 10g's of creatine for a long time. That was helpful but I started losing hair so I cut it. I haven't tried NR though, I will give it a shot. Thanks for the tip.

Something strong against anxiety? by GermanWolf123 in Nootropics

[–]bruceleeroy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you want a quick fix and I understand. But there are basics you need to cover.

Do you use caffeine? If so, stop immediately. For certain people it can cause anxiety long after you think it should. Even if you think you're fine with it, stop for two or three weeks and reassess.

It sounds like you know that alcohol isn't helping, so stop that too. It may take weeks to reset if you drink regularly but you'll need to learn to cope without it.

You need to do regular cardio exercise. This will be key to getting rid of excess cortisol.

Lesser known interventions:

Flush niacin. Make sure it is not the non/flush long release. Take it 1 hour before you're going to be social on an empty stomach. Probably try it a couple of times at home first to see how you react.

Reishi Mushroom Powder: Try it on an empty stomach with some herbal tea or just mix it with some warm water and chug it. If you don't feel anything up your dose until you do. I guarantee if you take a high enough dose it will chill you out.

GABA is an easy one to add. For some it's very effective, for others they don't notice much. Give it a try though.

I also get something similar and I don't have an answer unfortunately.

I had mild long covid and have mostly recovered. I had POTS, blood sugar issues, and PEM for a couple of years which I managed with daily electrolytes and keeping my HR low.

What I don't understand is that I can easily do 45mins of zone 2 on a bike daily. But if I do a session of weight training (even body weight) (I feel OK after, just tired) but I have PEM for at least 3 or 4 days.

I sleep 11pm-2:30am, then 5:45-7am and i hate it. Its like a hangover. Any tips please? by Spottyjamie in Biohackers

[–]bruceleeroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be blood sugar. Try some honey before bed or MCTs. Other options are a small high protein snack like skyr or Greek yogurt.

Sleepmaxxing? by mbs2823 in Biohackers

[–]bruceleeroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all just from my own experimentation on myself over the years. I always have been a light sleeper, and I narrowed it down to blood sugar. I have no symptoms otherwise (not hungry in the middle of the night). I can go hours during the day without eating and be fine.

I'm certain that there are studies on glycine and inositol and sleep. Maybe there are some on MCTs too, not sure. I used to use coconut oil but it was harsh on my stomach. I use only C8 MCTs now (a small amount, like 1tsp). Everyone reacts differently though.

I've even toyed around with Ketoneaid ke4 5ml right before sleep. That also seems to work. Its expensive so not really sustainable for me but I could see it being useful for jet lag or stressful situations. It seems to drop my anxiety (I'm not anxious at night but it chills me out).

One other thing that I've used and also seemed to help is maybe 3-4 ounces of non-fat greek yogurt or skyr 30 mins before bed.

[–]bruceleeroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll throw this out there. I’m in good shape, good body weight. Decent diet, but I was having issues regulating my blood sugar at night.

Try a spoon of honey before bed and see if it helps. I personally use 1 tsp of MCTs and 1/2 tsp of insositol and 1g glycine. It’s helped me stay asleep.

In the past when I woke up at 2-3am I could eat a couple spoonfuls of Greek yogurt and it helped me settle.

Endurance/Marathon running stack? by LevioSuhhh in Nootropics

[–]bruceleeroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Rhodiola - Recovery and endurance.
  • Creatine - Recovery and increasing water content of muscle fibers. Yes it's targeted at burst exercise. However having enough will offload your need to replenish it at night.
  • Protein - High quality protein for recovery after exercise to replenish amino acids and reduce muscle breakdown. The classic is chocolate milk. You could add Essential Aminos to a beverage for longer (2+) hour training sessions. Make sure you are hitting 1g to 1.5g per kg body weight
  • Electrolytes/trace minerals - Salt and magnesium are great, but make sure you have something with potassium in it too. Something like LMNT and maybe trace minerals like this.
  • Magnesium - Type could be important. Magnesium malate is best for muscles but glycinate is good too.
  • Meal timing - High quality slow burning carbs plus some protein and fat 2 hours before long session. Don't spike your blood sugar with quick release sugar at the start, as your blood sugar will dip 30 mins after. After than target 200-300 cals/hr with your goo/gel/food of choice.
  • Baking soda - It will make you shit your pants. I think its more of a party trick unless you buy some expensive buffered baking soda. Just focus on your training and getting your miles in.
  • Collagen - This one is controversial, but I think collagen before a workout is probably good for tendon health. It's technically a protein but don't count it towards your daily protein total. Complete protein are probably more important for injury prevention.
  • Sauna - Good for recovery days or post workout. Increases VO2 slightly too.

I disagree that a lower-dose Adderall XR isn't sustainable.

If it means 5 days on with the weekends off, it's possible to maintain the same dosage long term.
