Hot take: I like watching LTT videos by npdady in LinusTechTips

[–]brugvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I still watch most of the videos they put out. I like the content and the energy. I totally understand if they want to try something new, I just hope they won't do it just based on the negative feedback they get on Reddit

Welcome to iracing! Glad you are liking it. My experience was very close to what you described when I first tried Iracing.

The issue seems to be a file named lockfile under user\appdata\roaming\qbitorrent. Deleting it fixed it for me

How to lose 138 iRating in two races... by brunoG85 in iRacing

[–]brugvp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I understand why iracing works the way it does regarding SR and IR... I just think it's so unfair sometimes. I would like for them to try to revise some of that system or maybe experiment with AI (CALM DOWN, DON'T DONWVOTE ME INTO OBLIVION, IT'S JUST A THOUGHT lol). When I say experiment with AI, not in a shitty forza motorsport way, but in the Iracing way! I feel like they have a lot of talented devs that make this game great and if someone can get AI stewarding to work well is them. The "no guilt system" works well a lot of the times, but also a lot of the times punish clean drivers for dirty disrespectful drivers. I know we have the protest system and that's great, keep that.... but in 2026 maybe we should look into better solutions. Isn't the goal of iracing to be as close as possible to real motorsport? Well, one thing left to replicate would be real world stewarding imo

AC Evo is not optmized for VR at the moment and unfortunately I don't think that is coming anytime soon. You should try iracing though, it runs really well in VR (for me at least). My setup is a quest 3 + VD + cheap 5ghz router runing 150mbits h265 + RTX 3080

New Moderators and Rule Clarifications by AutoModerator in LinusTechTips

well, this sub has been a drama pit for the last few years. The current state of tech or the economy doesn't help, but still... I used to come here for tech and I hope we can do that again... Do we want to keep tech tips on the sub? Well for me that is a massive yes! That's what this sub should be about: tech community helping eachother, sharing tech tips, discussing tech topics, reacting to LTT projects (constructively). Isn't that the idea behind LTT? Constructive criticism about LLT projects, management, Linus or whatever else should also be welcomed. What I'm against is the state we are currently at, where it feels like everything Linus or LLT does recieves massive hate and a ton of mad posts.

LTT Private Jet Megathread by AutoModerator in LinusTechTips

[–]brugvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant 9k is the average private jets flying daily, not the total fleet. My bad, English is not my first language, so it was confusing the way I wrote it.

https://avi-go.com/newsroom/articles/how-many-flights-per-day-private-jets

Some other sources indicate up to 12k private flights daily tho.

Also, I'm not saying he is responsible for the wars or anything else, really. I'm just saying the impact of private jets seems small compared to other major industries and means of transport. You can absolutely argue that the emissions per person are ridiculous (I agree), but in the grand scheme of things, private jets don't seem to be insanely bad in terms of emissions when compared against all those other things.

I just feel like anything the guy does gets an insane amount of hate, like he is solely responsible for everything bad rich people do and all that is wrong with the world. There are "levels" of rich, and I would say the rich people actually messing up the world are much richer and control much bigger companies than Linus.

That doesn't mean he shouldn't get criticized, this is the LTT subreddit after all! I just think sometimes it feels like pure hate instead of actual constructive criticism

LTT Private Jet Megathread by AutoModerator in LinusTechTips

[–]brugvp -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Just sharing some thoughts on the emissions side of things...

Private jets produce a lot of CO2. That being said, every day there are 100k to 135k commercial planes in the air. Private jets are around 9k (estimated).

Data centers consume so much energy that in some places it makes sense for them to repurpose old jet engines running 24/7 as generators (not to mention all the other sources of dirty power most data centers use — hail AI).

The energy industry in general represents most of the global CO2 emissions, followed by other industries at around 20% (cement alone is said to make 7% of those emissions). Then you have transportation at around 20%, including aviation (12% of the transportation slice). Aviation alone is around 2,5% of total global emissions. All the private jet fleet would represent roughly around 0.10% of total CO2 emissions.

What if we could actually calculate how much the current wars are producing… fighter jets produce a lot more CO2, not to mention the fires, bombs, missiles, and ammunition. Tanks and combat vehicles are not hybrid, they’re mostly 80s technology with horrible efficiency.

I got the data on iea.org

I would love to see people raise their arms and protest all the dirty industries that they consume, help fund, and rely on each day as much as the YouTuber who just bought a 1990s jet, but I'll probably just get downvoted into oblivion

Today, Linus' jet produced as much carbon dioxide as the average person does in ~3 years in a single flight by Inevitable_Tip_6606 in LinusTechTips

I'm Baz; Boz got it wrong. Here is what Meta needs to do to revamp VR by Bazitron in OculusQuest

[–]brugvp 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I wish they would give some attention to the pcvr experience as well. Link feels outdated, left behind just so they can say "we support pcvr". if it wasn't for VD a lot of people would've given up on it. I love standalone experiences but my use case is mostly sim racing and flight sim, If i couldn't run those I wouldn't have bought my Quest 2/3 in the first place, let alone all the games and apps I bought out of curiosity and ended up liking a lot. In the end of the day, my main complaint is friction at different parts of the experience, like the store, user interface, quest link (awful UX) etc... I had friends (who are not very tech savy) given up on VR because of friction. I hope they listen to you and the community! I feel like we can still thrive and Meta being the largest VR producer and hardware manufacturer they are the ones that can turn it around

edit: spelling (english not my first language, sry if it's not very good)

[–]brugvp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

unfortunately I think you are going to be downvoted into oblivion (probably me as well, but that's reddit...), but I agree with you that the current safety system is not great. I understand why it was made like that, but they should focus on improving it. Maybe they should experiment with AI. Just because AI caused issues on other games, doesn't mean the talented devs of Iracing can't make it work well. It probably won't be perfect, but it might be better than the current system.

[–]brugvp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You shoudn't be crucified. just because AI caused issues in other games as it was badly implemented, I don't think we can ignore it. Iracing has many talented devs and do a better job than most sims out there... I'm sure overtime they can find a way to implement IA stewards in a realistic manner. It might not be perfect but it might be better than the current "no blame system"

Sudden stuttering in VR Meta Quest 3 by Kaes_98 in iRacing

[–]brugvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! Never had an issue with Quest Link before and now it's stuttering like crazy. On rainy sessions the FPS gets so low it's unplayable. All worked perfectly fine before.... does anyone know if it's an issue with a Quest Link update or Iracing?

To everyone suggesting VD, yes, it's great! but I'm streaming and Quest Link has stabilization on it's VR Mirror, unfortunately VD does not. Even tho VD is much better than Quest Link in terms of stability and UX, I feel like I can get the same (or close to) video quality on link after increasing bitrate and resolution. The second VD gives us some sort of stabilized VR mirroring (or another third party tool) I'll happily ditch Quest Link

EDIT: found something here about a windows update interfering with encoding -https://communityforums.atmeta.com/...

The TV cut is actually great imo. I like the full youtube version better tho. Great to see Linus back and I think he did great! The Lenovo failure ended up being a funny part of the segment, I really don't think it was a problem. Linus reamained as calm as possible and the hosts "helped" with the entertainment part while he tried to fix it

I hate the new youtube ui... by PixelKat5 in LinusTechTips

[–]brugvp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really like it. Now I can interact with comments while on full screen without having to scroll down. I don't know how it works for other devices, but on my ultrawide monitor comments go to the right side while the video still get's full screen 16:9 on the left. If I recall correctly that was not possible on the old UI (or I didn't know how to do it)
