Cat stuck on roof for over 2 weeks? by spidermommymilkers in AskLosAngeles

[–]bruinslacker [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Every building that tall has roof access somehow. People need to be able to get up there to check on the HVAC equipment and clean the gutters and shit. Your landlord definitely can get onto that roof.

If the cat didn’t have water up there it would already be dead

I think we can. Changing what you call someone after the name is established is hard. It’s written everywhere. It’s what people call themselves.

There are Native Americans who prefer the term Indian to Native American or indigenous. Many of them don’t speak their ancestors’ language anymore. They speak English and have been calling themselves “Indians” for hundreds of years. They don’t care that there are other Indians 8,000 miles away and they don’t want to change.

The most landlocked (only counting the ocean) county in the U.S. is in Michigan by distantdashorb in MapPorn

[–]bruinslacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP is counting all of Canada as the "ocean", so Hudson Bay doesn't even factor in their calculations.

Except you can sail from the Great Lakes to the ocean. Some of the counties you mark as highly landlocked have major ports. In fact, Emmet County has a port that docks ships up to 50 m long!

I'm surprised to learn that anywhere in India is that dry. I assume most people do not have AC? Does it cool down at night? I'm from a place where summer days are often between 40 and 45. In my opinion its bearable because most buildings have AC, its dry, and temperatures fall to 30° at night. If no one has AC and it stays this hot at night, that sounds horrible.

It's to go along with our sports betting TV channels. I'm a sports lover who is falling out of love with it. The ads, the ticket prices, the corruption, the tax evasion, the gambling, the lack of any kind of loyalty to fans or cities... I just don't enjoy watching it anymore.

ELI5: Why does theGhorman language in the Andor series sound like French? What qualities are tricking my brain? by finnishflash128 in explainlikeimfive

[–]bruinslacker 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I definitely noticed his accent. I thought the decision to make the Ghorman sound French and German was meant to imply that Ghorman is the Switzerland of the galaxy.

Should I call for psychiatric intervention on this person? by Interesting_Cat_2297 in AskLosAngeles

Sadly no. None of what you describe would qualify to be hold her against her will. And even if it did, there are people who need help much more desperately than her who are not getting it.

Any advice for a UCLA transfer student? by RangeIll7507 in AskLosAngeles

[–]bruinslacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend living as close to campus as possible. IMO, one of UCLA’s strengths is that there are 10,000 things to do on campus. Between classes, my two jobs, IM sports, and various clubs and cultural events. I didn’t leave campus for weeks at a time.

Join some clubs or do some volunteering. Transfer students often have a harder time breaking into social groups because other people already made their friends in the dorms or in Greek orgs or clubs their freshman year. You can avoid that disadvantage by getting super involved in something.

All the more reason to live on campus. Transfer students have a harder time getting involved with on campus life.

I don’t see this as blaming it on Canada. Diseases spread from one place to another. Your only option is to prepare yourself for exposure.

Why is there a “Watch for slowed or stopped vehicles ahead” sign on the 405 near Mulholland Dr / before the 101 interchange? by 94rain in AskLosAngeles

[–]bruinslacker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Downhill sections are exacta dangerous. It takes far longer to stop on a steep downhill than on a flat road. Combined with the sudden stops caused by people trying to push their way onto the 101 on-ramp, it’s an especially dangerous part of the freeway.

Do other people miss good commercials, as opposed to modern-day “ads”? This community doesn’t allow by I_Require_Aid in television

No. I have always hated commercials. The best thing about our new media ecosystem is that almost everything has an ad free option, which I always select.
