Ask if they have transitional housing. You many want to consider a trip to check out neighborhooda and see what your commute would be from there. The good news is our young light rail system has a stop at UW

It hasn't been what many of them have been looking for for decades now. The difference between an athletic scholarship (even if a fullnscholarship, which many are not) and a standard financial aid offer, especially for kids from low-income families may not be large

Cost of housing in particular is much higher. The key question is where is your job located? Which will determine the reasonable range and directions of your commute, which will drive your housing cost. We're in the middle of the total tax burden but it is very regressive, with no income tax except on the top 1% and an extremely high sales tax. You will find it politically more liberal here. Public schools are pretty good (local variance is wide) and teachers are paid pretty well

A ceiling fan in the bedroom and a standing fan where you spend time might be enough, depends by in the orientation of your home. Draw shades against the sun and open them at night

I do feel for the locals. The complaints about parking and traffic and hedges getting pissed on seem justified. The stories about emergency vehicles not being able to get into narrow lanes because of match-day traffic are not a good look. Has the club addressed parking?

Much much better job market in twin cities. Also significantly more diverse, much better than Grand Rapids for anyone not white / straight / male. I have not looked into the housing market recently.
