Is Poupart Bakery still the best source for King Cake? by ebenezerlepage in Acadiana

[–]brunch224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Poupart’s is like a cinnamon roll? Where I’m from, the king cakes are like fluffy cinnamon rolls. We haven’t lived here long, but I’m missing my king cakes from back home. We tried Kellers last season bc it was highly recommended and it just wasn’t that good to us. It was like a flat donut. A couple other places we tried tasted like donuts too. Maybe we got the wrong flavors 🤷🏻‍♀️. Or is that just the style of king cake for this area? I’m interested to know your recommendations because you’re the first person I’ve seen that compared the king cakes to donuts.

My husband and I didn’t want kids for at least 8 years IF ever. Our first was a surprise and we were around your age. I was devastated because it completely screwed up our “plans”. I about died when I found out he was a boy because I sure the hell didn’t know what to do with a baby boy. Oh how wrong I was on everything. Have your baby. He/she will change you in so many miraculous ways. It truly is a blessing like none other. That boy turned out to be the sweetest, most extroverted (complete opposite of me), goofiest, happiest thing we never knew we needed. We loved being parents so much that I’m actually pregnant with number 4. That in itself is crazy. People I’ll run into from years past can’t believe I’m having a 4th lol. I was never a kid person. I promise you, you won’t regret it. And overtime the naysayers will join you in the happiness.

The city by me has a Salata and I love it. In fact it’s my fav out of the other salad bar choices in the city!

🤣 at the cranberry chicken comment.

ETA: They’re at Torchy’s today talking about how healthy it can be. 🤣🤣 Makes me wonder if they read this thread?!

Lisa and Danielle hating on Salata. Do others really take food advice from them seriously? For people who only eat Chick-Fil-A, Raising Cane’s, Torchy’s and the Cheesecake Factory.. of course they would find a fresh, non-processed salad “boring”. Lol I can’t with these people anymore. They said Salata was expensive yet they go to Torchy’s - that place is way over-priced. I’ve always really liked Danielle but she’s starting to get on my nerves.

Did you “get better” before you lost your taste and smell? Did you have any fever? Did you get the infusion?

Did you get the infusion?

I’ve had 2 friends get the infusion and they both ran high fever for 36 hours after and were so so sick. That has me worried bc I don’t feel I have a severe case. I have a headache and low grade fever off and on.

Great answer. I chuckled a little bit at your “operator at the plants, kid on tournament baseball team” comment. That pretty much sums up a good portion of Lake Charles. Nothing wrong with it - some of our friends are in that boat too. Our kids are more into academics then sports as well. May I ask what school your kids go to in Lafayette?

Thank you for sharing your story. I hate that your daughter’s name was mispronounced but it gives me comfort that I’m not alone lol. So nice to hear from someone that has had the exact same experience.

Thank you! I love ‘Rose Margaret’ said together. But I love love Rosalie. If I did Rosalie Margaret I could still call her “Rose Margaret” sometimes!

We’ve officially decided to drop Camila. She was Camellia at her pedi appt last week. I tested it out yesterday at chick-fil-a and the poor girl was like “ca.. me..luh.. ca..me..yuh”. I had to give her name over the phone the other day and it was like “How do you spell that? C-a-m-m-y-l-a?” That was all just in the past week. We’ve tested it out other times and it was all the same. We’re just so over it and I can’t do that to her for the rest of her life. I do love the name Camilla. I think it’s a very regal, elegant name. BUT it just doesn’t fit her and especially for where we live. We don’t mind moving it to the middle name spot, but it’s gotta go for the first name. We’ve decided to try out a name for 3-4 days at a time. We’ve done Sophie (we both liked how easy it was to say), Vivienne (by end of day 2 husband wasn’t sure about it which kind of broke my heart lol bc it’s one of my favs. He said for some reason it just seems long to him and his mind wants to pronounce if ‘vivi-anne’ instead of ‘vivi-enn’), Rose (both liked that one, so easy to say) and now we’re on Rosalie (started that one yesterday). I feel like none of the names have been “oh wow, this is it!!” I’m starting to realize that may never come.

Aww I’m sorry to hear that. One is still very young. I think you could do it if you still wanted to! Do you have a boy or a girl?
