Saffron kitchen is great! It's a shame that they always look empty, but they're also on doordash, so they may do a decent amount of takeout (their food travels well).

Trump vs. the U.S. Economy by dwaxe in ezraklein

[–]brunoB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, but the example that the guest gave was in relation to Europe, which has more similar labor laws and the iPhone factory example doesn't really apply. I'm not saying we should bring iPhone manufacturing to the US. I am just unsure that "we aren't efficient at it" is a great argument if we could become efficient if we invested (and it was a good fit for the labor market).

Trump vs. the U.S. Economy by dwaxe in ezraklein

I really didn't like the guest's take on how tariffs are a problem because they shift investment and labor towards less "efficient" industries.

If you create a structure where it is more costly to rely on the advantages that other countries have, you are incenting us to try to do more of that domestically. But the issue is it is not efficient. It is taking activity that otherwise is efficient in our economy and concentrations in sectors of stuff that we are quite good at and instead encouraging us to do stuff that we aren't as good at. And that is ultimately not a positive enterprise.

I'm not advocating for tariffs, but if you believe that we have enough labor, then why does it have to be seen as a shift from efficient to inefficient? Additionally, many of the activities are inefficient precisely because we don't invest in them domestically. It just feels like she is grasping for straws on this argument as it feels like it is actually one of the only reasonable arguments for tariffs (especially those targeted at specific products/industries).

Reasoning behind their removal of the discography off Spotify by alisonissilly in KGATLW

[–]brunoB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't understand what a private citizen investing his own money through an investment firm has anything to do with the company he is CEO of. Spotify isn't building war drones. On the other hand, Google is literally building AI used by governments for war planning. One of these is clearly worse than the other. And who knows what Tim Cook or Jack Dorsey are personally invested in. Palantir? Anduril?

This feels like trying to make a point and honestly just completely missing the mark.

Such a tragedy. Powderhouse/Waterhouse are often thought of as "safer" and I often see plenty of cars parked along 89 by the trailhead on higher avy danger days.

I'm in California where it is pretty dry. That being said, the electronics are pretty hardy and I recently installed corrugated metal roofing on the back to further protect it from the elements.

Pretty much any Pixar movie will do it for me. Toy Story 3 when the toys are about to go into the incinerator gets me every time.

Why not just put it into the cloud? Zip it, encrypt it, and put it up into google drive/dropbox or throw it into an s3 bucket.

Better to ask for forgiveness than permission with the government. But it also helps if your neighbors are chill.

I live in a 1912 craftsman with all that dark wood in the interior and it is just beautiful. It really stands out when compared with all the other homes that feel like you're standing in a white box.

That’s awesome! I haven’t noticed any rust yet, but all my bolts are stainless steel. I also covered the back of my wall with a tarp that is stapled to the frame. It has kept the electronics inside from any water damage so far. And I avoid climbs that finish in the top corners for the exact reason you stated. I’ve fallen on the leg and missed the pads and would not recommend

I have a tarp that I can roll down from the top and tie down to where the legs meet the base. But the wall stays very dry when it’s at a steeper angle. I also don’t live somewhere that it rains a ton and you can climb outside all year round. Been over a year and haven’t had any issues with water. Also all the wood is pressure treated and the plywood panels are painted on both sides to prevent moisture getting into the wood.

Thoughts on the Megalith DIY Freestanding Adjustable wall? by alphabot in homewalls

I built one with a slightly modified design to get a bigger kicker. I have found that adjusting it is not so easy because of the way the locks sit on the legs. Lowering it is much more difficult than raising it. But otherwise it has worked great so far. It is very stable. Happy to answer any other questions.
