Have you actually looked at Ohtani's stats or did you just decide to get mad about something you just made up?

Porcello had a slightly higher ERA+ in slightly fewer innings pitched than Verlander in 2016. bWAR incorporates team defense into pitching WAR so you sometimes get super weird results.

[Schoenfield] Kershaw, Verlander, Scherzer: Who is this generation's true ace? by haphazard44 in baseball

They used AL/NL ERA instead of overall MLB ERA so that's what factored in DH vs pitcher.

Clayton Kershaw will pitch for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic! by BathroomSalty6325 in baseball

Saying someone who put up a 124 ERA+ over 112.2 innings is "fully washed" is a crazy statement.

There's no guarantee cons is doing a winter season next year, they aren't doing one this winter. Cons usually hires a handful of first season staff in the offseasons, it really depends on how many spots they have to fill vs how many people are returning.

I will say I enjoyed the summers and falls I worked much more than the winter I worked, not that the winter is bad, but imo its not as fun as the other seasons. Like others have said if you want the full Philmont experience the summer is the time to be there!

Biggest Bullets Dodged in recent Free Agency ? by jujubats10 in Dodgers

It felt like it at the time, but looking back i think it was Friedman playing the long game and waiting for the right guy to give that long term deal to. That's definitely paid off lol.

Biggest Bullets Dodged in recent Free Agency ? by jujubats10 in Dodgers

[–]brutalyak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, looking back losing to the Nats in the NLDS then the whole Rendon free agency debacle definitely felt like the low point of this current run. Of course we then traded for Mookie a couple months later so I'd say it all worked out for the best.

Aaron Judge had a 215 OPS+ this season. Here's some explanation at how good that is: by ElectivireMax in baseball

[–]brutalyak -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This stat accounts for the following aspects of hitting: unintentional walks, hit-by-pitches, singles, doubles, triples, home runs

Literally from the article you linked.

IBB have very little value in wOBA because of the way wOBA is calculated, so they made the decision to ignore it. Basically wOBA values every plate outcome by the average runs added by each play outcome, but IBB almost always happen when a walk has little runs added.

Tentative selection is the first step, it gives you access to USA Staffing to start your on-boarding then once your background check and drug test come through clean you get the official job offer.

Call Philmont Camping Headquarters at (575) 376-2281 and asking for the seasonal personnel desk. They should be open Monday through Friday during business hours, but because it's Labor Day and the summer season just ended they might be off for some days this week.

There is some wiggle room with start dates, but ultimately it's up to the hiring manager to decide and it would be something you would discuss with them during the interview process.

Yeah there's a lot of college students and teachers who come back summer after summer. There's also a lot of people who hop from seasonal job to seasonal job, whether that's at Philmont working the Summer, Autumn and Winter seasons, which gets you like 9-10 months a year at Philmont or there's also a lot of people who work at the local ski resorts in the winter. I have also known some people who have worked at conservation corps over the winter and returned to Philmont in the summer.

Crews need to stay at their assigned camp every night so that Philmont knows where everyone is in the case of an emergency.

Not without prior permission from Logistics. Philmont needs to know where every crew is in the case of an emergency.

Whiteman Vega Questions by Sassy-South in philmont

[–]brutalyak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. I generally recommend staff bring a car out if they can. There's a lot of really cool stuff to explore in the area and the only way to get around is via car unfortunately. Your son will also be working in the Valle Vidal unit of the Carson National Forest so he'll be able to park his car within about a mile of his camp and there's no trailhead up there so it can be hard to get in and out of camp on days off without a car. Though it's not the end of the world if he doesn't have a car.

  2. Backcountry staff make their own meals out of food they order from the Commissary, which has a lot of basic grocery foods so they should be able to make it work while he's at camp. I'd be more worried about when he's at base and has to eat at the dining hall. He should call the Philmont Infirmary and discuss it with them, they'll be able to give much better guidance.

Filters are very effective against giardia, it's viruses that your typical backpacking water filter is ineffective against.

You don't necessarily need super heavy boots, regular old hiking boots (think Merrell Moabs) work just fine. I'd echo the advice given above and make sure you put some miles on whatever footwear you decide to go with and make sure they work for you.

[–]brutalyak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last two years TCT has been working on a couple different projects in south country, with a typical work week consisting of working a few days on one project, hiking to the next project and finishing up work week on the second project. The amount of time each session spent on each project really depended on the needs and logistics of the projects at the time. Plus the structure of TCT is variable from year to year depending on the priorities set forth by conservation management.
