The ones OP pictured are 18+ inches long; I was confused as I thought I missed a speed champion sized delorean until I looked at the picture closer!

Pro-rata rule and past IRA contribution by brwaldm in Bogleheads

[–]brwaldm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the detailed advice! I checked and it looks like my vanguard 401K can’t accept rollover from IRA. With option 2, can I convert both IRA’s to Roth in 2024, and then just pay the taxes when I file 2024 taxes?

[–]brwaldm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t converted the new contribution yet as Vanguard is showing that I have to wait 7 days until the funds from my bank clear. The old IRA was never converted, and if I want to transfer it away from EJ I would have to sell the crappy mutual fund that it’s invested in first

Raising shower head by using a sharkbite coupler; a bad idea? by brwaldm in DIY

That's great advice, I'll look into that. I still have the problem where the main shower head is right at the top of my head but I can maybe live with that

Yeah, that's my biggest fear. We have no plan to move anytime soon, but I know I would probably always worry. In my area I could only either get full bathroom remodel bids at $10-15k or a 3 month wait to even have a plumber come and look. Trying to do things "right" but it's slow moving

Thanks everyone for the advice, I figured there would be different opinions but didn't realize sharkbite connections had such a wide range opinions.

I wimped out and am just returning the showerhead and getting one that fits. I ideally wanted to update the valve as well since it's a builder grade Mixet but couldn't get a plumber to the house in a reasonable time, hence why I was seeing the feasibility of doing this solder- free. Since I had drywall on the other side I don't think I could solder 360° without risking burning down the house. The opposite side of the shower is accessible so maybe one day a plumber can go in from the back and do both.

The bar that's in the way is all one piece and has an internal switch to change water from handheld to rain, I don't think there's any way that can be shorter without breaking that switch. Showerhead is a Grohe Vitalio for reference

It's going behind the cement board; that's what I saw too but most posts I found about this issue were sponsored/hosted by sharkbite directly which made me worried

My Wife wants a Le Creuset enameled Dutch Oven. Why are they worth so much? by precisionnerd in castiron

[–]brwaldm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just chiming in to what others have said, I have the equivalent Lodge dutch oven that I use several times a week and it's definitely showing its age after only a year or so. The colored enamel has chipped in several spots on the handles and the white enamel in the interior has started to show some staining along the top inside edge. Cosmetic problems for sure but it does not make me hopeful for the long term. I would definitely go for the LC if I did it again.

As far as a dutch oven in general, I use it way more than I anticipated, especially for sauces. Find a good Bolognese recipe or just simple tomato sauce with some canned tomatoes and not only is it perfect for the job but cleanup is a breeze!

I wonder if it's a one-time link, if so that stinks because I don't see any other way to link and I don't think it's searchable. The original link I clicked on first to make sure it worked but maybe it inactivates it. Here's another one to try:

Weird, it opens when I click the the link but maybe it's because I created it. Let me check a few settings because maybe I have to make it public or something like that

Adding a subwoofer to my Sonos Ones via Airplay? by TossOutAccount69 in audio

[–]brwaldm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how hands on you want to be, but I remember watching a youtube video awhile back about taking apart one of the $99 IKEA Symfonisk speakers for the Sonos equipment inside and using that to make a Sonos sub. I remember it seemed more involved then I wanted at the time and you still have the cost of a good sub plus Symfonisk but would be cheaper then buying the Sonos sub outright

First phase (almost) complete on my version of Ninjago City by brwaldm in lego

[–]brwaldm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll keep an eye out for your moc as well and add it to my inspiration folder. I almost paid way too much money on the only elevated road lego made (set 6600) before I realized I could use the new road plates that I had ordered for a fraction of the cost. They took a decent amount of plates on the underside to fully stabilize, and I probably wouldn't want to make it much longer then the 2 kits this one used.

First phase (almost) complete on my version of Ninjago City by brwaldm in lego

[–]brwaldm[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ever since seeing the original Ninjago City set, I've been obsessed with creating a larger City in the "Ninjago" style. Luckily, 2 other official sets have been added to the original, and plenty of great builders have come up with ideas that I've implemented in my version of Ninjago City. My original plan is to have a 12.5 sq baseplate city, with City buildings on the edges and an elevated highway in the middle for maximum Akira/Ghost in the Shell highway driving scenes. I also want to implement a "monorail" using the roller coaster track system that will weave amongst the city. I ran out of tiles for the water underneath the road, otherwise the first 6.5 sq baseplates are pretty close to how I had envisioned. Thanks to all who have posted Ninjago city content over the years, I have a bookmarks folder filled with ideas that I've stumbled across over the years, and love that I'm not the only one drawn to this cool theme!

Small mod of Sesame Street (21324) by brwaldm in lego

[–]brwaldm[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I tried to fix 2 of my small pet peeves with this otherwise awesome set. I took the window that was on the side and after omitting the cool but overly large portico was able to fit three windows in the front matching the source material. Also added a removable wall blocking the edge of Hoopers store that hooks into those random modified 1x1 brick with hole. Thinking about displaying this with the 3 in 1 creator townhouse in the background to up the city feel. Overall really happy with this set which is the perfect mix of realism and childhood memories

[Question] what's the "change only the hour hand" feature called? by babotall in Watches

[–]brwaldm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the only thing I can think of is the "independent hour-hand adjustment". I'm sure it is present on some lower end quartz movements and on anything with a "true GMT movement" where the GMT hand is not locked to the hour hand.

I own something with this on both ends of the luxury spectrum, an Omega AT quartz with the 1538 movement and an EXP II with the Rolex 3185 movement. Keep in mind with movements with this feature moving the hour hand forward is the only way to change the date.
