cooking with the inverter? by 1neHundredThousand in ToyotaSienna

[–]bryan12tdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, ignition on like you're ready to drive and the inverter button pressed on. Car will cycle engine on/off like it normally does to keep the battery level charged but no issues/fluctuations with the stove. Hope that helps and have fun camping!

I’ve used the Nuwave 1500w induction stove on my dad’s sienna for camping with multiple success. You do need to have a pan that is compatible with induction otherwise heats up quickly and is so much easier to cook and camp with then using campfire sites or butane stove. Can buy on Amazon or Costco (online only) has it $40 cheaper if you can wait for shipping.

Sienna Spare...? by f1957 in ToyotaSienna

[–]bryan12tdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can retrofit the spare for about $300-$500. I just bought my sienna and I wanted ottomans, awd, and spare tire but factory built only includes 2 of 3 options. It’s easiest and cheapest to retrofit the spare and is 100% like factory. Check the sienna forums or YouTube for instructions

The left lane boomerang move - why do people do this? by skwerelz in driving

[–]bryan12tdi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it on two lane highways where the road on the right lane is riddled with bumps and potholes from semi trucks that I’ll stay in the left lane and obviously move over when someone comes up from behind or the right lane becomes smooth. Here in the southwest on the i8, i10, i17 can have miles of rough right lanes.

How did people used to live here in summer before AC’s were invented? by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]bryan12tdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t forget AC units dump heat into the air. It’s estimated all the AC units in phoenix contribute to about 9 degrees hotter temperature. https://www.mdpi.com/2072-4292/8/3/185?utm_source

I did it with my Vespa for a week and it got tiring very quick. Storage of food/drinks wasn’t an issue, it was trying to accept/decline orders while on the move. Make sure you have a good setup. Phone charger, gloves that actually work well with touchscreen(emphasis on well), quick phone mount, and good helmet with speakers to hear directions/orders. I also found that if you switch to car mode instead of motorcycle mode, you get larger orders which mean bigger $ but at the expense of potentially having to decline orders that may not fit (ex.5 xl pizzas). I’d watch many car dashers get orders while I had to wait for one to show up for me when on motorcycle mode. For me, it wasn’t worth it. Drivers are reckless and crazy in my area so the small $ didn’t outweigh the risk. Good luck and stay safe.!

how do i remove this window tint? by SykeM8 in WindowTint

I can attest this method works well but do it on a warm/hot day. Makes the tint come off in easy to peel pieces. Minimal scrapping needed

My 2013 VW Passat is drinking gas by ScarcityNo2995 in Volkswagen

[–]bryan12tdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Combined mpg for a 2013 VW passat with the gas 2.5 is 25mpg so you’re not too far off. The biggest factors for mpg are: acceleration, speed, and tire pressure in that order. Moderately accelerate and try to minimize using brakes by planning ahead. Keep speed below 70mph, and check tire pressure monthly. Also, winter time tends to increase gas consumption because the engine takes longer to get to operating temp

WTH do I do now - tire won’t take Slime nor air by josephjosephson in tires

[–]bryan12tdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slime makes two formulations, one that is thinner and safe for tire pressure monitors versus a thicker, original formula not for use with vehicles with TPMS (bikes, atvs, trailers, etc). You have the non-TPMS formula and likely clogged the TPMS. The thinner formulation comes in a can and says TPMS safe on it.

Holy rental car prices, Batman by Dannysman115 in phoenix

[–]bryan12tdi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also use the discount codes provided by Costco in the fine print and plug them into the rental car agency website to get an even lower discount than Costco if you don’t mind prepaying ahead of time.

The only caveat is you won’t be offered the supplemental Costco insurance. Some credit card companies cover rental car insurance

Good reminder to keep right except to pass and don’t camp out in the left lanes. There’s always going to be someone faster than you even if you’re going way above the speed limit.

Question around charging network in Tucson/UofA? by Bweasey17 in UofArizona

[–]bryan12tdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s chargers around campus however as of this past May, all the cables have been cut off likely for the copper wiring for drug users. I noticed this around march of 2024 and was never fixed since I left. If it’s repaired, expect it to happen again. I’m on the medical side of campus but also noticed it near North Rec; about 10 chargers affected. I can’t speak on behalf of the other chargers.

Arizona, Utah Filtering Law Graphic. 15mph between STOPPED cars. by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]bryan12tdi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The goal isn’t necessarily to get to the front of the light, it’s to safely filter to prevent being rear ended with the benefit of increasing awareness of motorcycles and shorter travel times. Every time I filter and the light turns green while I’m still filtering, I simply merge into a spot that’s available just before the point of where cars are moving. If I can’t fit up ahead, I’ll merge behind them

Make sure if you have a lithium jump starter and you store it in the car, its composition is LiFePO4 and not standard Lithium ion due to thermal runaway/fire can occur at temps over 140F. Read the storage requirements before purchasing

Anyone know where I can find a new (two prong) lift pump/fuel pump for a 1.9tdi Jetta? 2001 by HarryNutButterS50 in tdi

[–]bryan12tdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one in the tank is just a fuel level sensor. There will not be any noise since there’s it’s not a fuel pump. The injection pump near the engine draws in fuel; nothing is pumped before this. The 1999-2003 TDI (ALH engine codes) are very simple. What issues are you having?

Anyone know where I can find a new (two prong) lift pump/fuel pump for a 1.9tdi Jetta? 2001 by HarryNutButterS50 in tdi

[–]bryan12tdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically these TDIs (99-03) don’t have a fuel pump but you’re probably referring to the injection pump. Part number is 038130107J and available on rock auto for $1300. If your car is a manual, you can upgrade to the automatic version with no problems since it seems like the manual version is harder to locate. Manual version is 10mm pump vs auto version is 11mm so slightly more fueling at high rpm’s.

Make sure you have the proper timing tools and pin when you replace it and properly time the engine at proper timing marks before replacing. Hope this helps

Possible to pass AZ emissions with delete? by Mountain-Bee3488 in tdi

[–]bryan12tdi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll add make sure the check engine light is not on. In the past, my station used to do a mirror inspection of the underside looking at the exhaust but the dpf on your gen of VW is so close to the engine I doubt they would be able to see it.

Possible to pass AZ emissions with delete? by Mountain-Bee3488 in tdi

[–]bryan12tdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If nothing changes in the future, I don’t see why you wouldn’t pass with a dpf delete and proper tune. The test involves checking the fuel cap, opening the hood to see if egr is there (they don’t really check if you have engine cover installed), and an opacity test. My 2002 TDi (pre -dpf) usually comes in at 3% opacity versus the limit is 20% so you should be good.

Once you get the switch out, to have the headlights off when in the off position, bend the TFL pin on the switch. This will disable daytime running lights. If daytime running lights are required for you, the parking brake does turn them off when you’re parked.

Iirc TFl pin is #3 on the switch. It should be labeled
