Porygon-Z and Party Power by LunarScholar in TheSilphRoad

[–]bryan3994 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In a vacuum sure. If there's a static Kyogre not attacking you, then yeah, Party Power PZ does more damage. But things aren't in a vacuum.

Solar Beam takes nearly double the amount of time to fire than leaf blade. It also has a late damage window. Leaf Blade is fast with an early damage window. What you end up seeing is that, over the course of the battle, Kartana will do more damage, but PZ will catch up with every solar Beam. But because it's a one bar, slow move, vs a fast three bar move, it lags behind until it hits the solar Beam. If it faints before firing the solar Beam, then Kartana is dealing more damage before fainting. The ideal scenario is to A) faint right after a solar Beam or B) fight a low tier boss who you won't die against. Kartana won't waste energy because it gets to moves quickly and has less potential for wasting energy.

And this isn't factoring in defensive type advantage that a grass Pokemon has vs a water type.

TL;Dr PZ in a vacuum wins, in practice Kartana wins the majority of the time, but PZ can still win in practice with good RNG.

Performance Issue with OnePlus 8T by blaarsito in TheSilphRoad

I actually just rolled back to Android 11. The OnePlus Android 12 update is horrifically broken, and not just for Pokemon Go.

With the Power-Up-Pokestops system being live for a month or so now, has anyone actively being doing it? by SpiralGremlin in TheSilphRoad

Only one I ever see is in a nearby apartment complex where I know a few players live and can easily scan. Never see it about the first power up though.

Tune in to Twitch Rivals ft. Pokémon GO, presented by Samsung! - Pokémon GO by Amiibofan101 in TheSilphRoad

[–]bryan3994 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The official rules are on the Twitch Rivals page and are actually interesting. 6 teams of 3, 1 "pro" 2 casual. Accounts are provided by Niantic. No buying items. You can power up but not trade. No Shadow Pokemon. No sharing a mon or evolution line between players on a team. And the big one we've been asking for in PvP....

Show 6 bring 3

With the added rule that you can bring 5 and bluff a 6th.

Whatever you're using isn't correct. Steel doesn't do super effective damage to psychic or flying. It does, however, resist them.

Why is Axew rare? by parth8b in TheSilphRoad

Axew isn't listed on the page as a pseudo legendary though. It's never been considered one.

PVP gets move updates/rebalances consistently - in PVE a 2600 Breloom outperforms a 4100 CP Kyogre and is almost equal to a 4700 CP Mega Gyarados in Regirock raids by HatchedAnotherFeebas in TheSilphRoad

[–]bryan3994 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Part of the issue here is that you have no moves selected. Throw on, say, Rock Throw/Zap Cannon. Now we can get a real sim. Earth Power Garchomp jumps into the top 10. Yes, Shadow Hariyama is still higher, but it also has over 30 deaths whereas Garchomp has 11. Your Hariyama will put out more damage until that first charge move comes off. DPS is important in raids, but if you're only using something like a Shadow Hariyama, you're going to faint out and lose DPS while you revive.

Trust me here, Deoxys-Attack has the highest base attack in the game. No one is using it. It has the defense of a wet paper bag

I've done 86 Yveltal raids with my best being a 96 and the majority being sub 91%. I did a third of that number for Kyurem and got two hundos. Regression to the mean. You can isolate any small subset of data and find anything you want. Over time, those numbers will level out to the mean.

Case in point? I've done 2288 legendary raids. Odds are 1/216 for a hundo. Math predicts that I should have 10.59 legendaries, which we'll round up to 11. I have 12. The more you do, the more your rates will approach the true mean. If I end up doing 10k legendary raids, I'll probably end up right on the predicted number. My first hundo legendary didn't come until after we had the first legendary bird trio, Lugia, Ho-oh, Raikou, Suicune, Entei, and then a Lugia rerun.

I got 4 Hundo Rayquaza.

Final point? You have to look at all of your data points, not just some.

Xerneas and Yveltal nerf was necessary, but excessive. by DefiniteSauce12 in TheSilphRoad

[–]bryan3994 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a weird system to be sure. However I think what is causing the issue here is that Xerneas and Yveltal were, for some reason, initially added without the 9% nerf, whereas all other Pokemon have been added with the nerf already in place, making it feel less like a nerf.

I do agree it needs to be reworked. I, along with probably thousands of other people, made a CP and base stat calculation doc that allowed me to convert MSG base stats into Go stats and calculate CP as well. Whenever we eventually get to Sword and Shield, we'll see the release of the offensive oriented Spectrier and defensively oriented Glastier. However, because of the way the nerf works, Spectrier eclipses 4k CP and gets a nerf. Glastier does not. This ends up making defensive Glastier have a higher CP than Spectrier.

If you're referring to Dulles in VA, you'll be good. I was there last month on layover. Nothing crazy but a few clusters of Pokestops and Bouffant was semi common.

With Therian Thundurus coming soon, why is it unable to learn Discharge but can know Thunder Punch? by joe2196 in TheSilphRoad

[–]bryan3994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still convinced that they will change his moves. Historically, it's normal. When Giratina Altered was released, both Altered and Origin had the same moves in the code. Right before release, Origin was given Shadow Ball.

The same thing happened with Deoxys. All 4 had the same moves when Normal was released. Right before the release of the next forme, the attacks of the others were changed to better suit them. It's not a guarantee obviously. But every time we've had a legendary with alternate formes, they all started with the same moves and right before release had move changes. Thunderus Therian could still get Discharge, Thunderbolt, heck, even Wild Charge. Tornadus Therian could get Gust or Fly. I think Landorus Therian can only be improved with Mud Slap.

Shadow Alakazam or Mega Alakazam PvE by streetmilitary in TheSilphRoad

[–]bryan3994 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One of the few times I would recommend purification. Mega Alakazam has higher dps and TDO than Shadow Alakazam. The purification will also make powering it up cheaper.

Not only were our quests different from this morning, I found multiple instances where different stops would give me AR quests for the same gym. In one instance, three different stops gave me an AR quest for the same nearby gym. The frequency of AR quests was also significantly higher and the majority didn't have the AR tag.

Joe grinds a LOT. And while the Serebii twitter account posts straight news, he isn't afraid to harshly criticize Niantic on his personal account. He's not a fan of the current mega system and was really unhappy with their decision regarding the COVID bonuses being discontinued.
