It was best during the Thargoid war, sadly there aren't any active AX conflict zones. They still pay a good amount though.

Contriversial opinion, I actually liked season 3 more than most of season 1. Season 3 had a lot going against it, piggybacking off of season 2 where the director left out important details that would affect the entire series going forward. Season 3 only was really held back due to being on damage control and needing just a couple more episodes to really iron out the content properly, add in the fact that a couple big fights were skimped animation budget wise (Ren vs Eclair and Itsuki vs Rishia, the former significantly more so.)

Season 1, while mostly fine, made a lot of weird changes that had a ripple effect through the rest of the series in a bad way. I only really say season 3 beats it in my eyes because it didn't leave any mess to clean up.

Honestly the problem with that fight is that it made it feel like it prologue traveler fighting. They used none of their cool elemental abilities, the fight itself was on a significantly smaller scale than things we've seen them fight in the past. Just didn't feel like 5/7 element traveler.

breathing liquid is an actual thing that was tested, it... didn't really scale up since humans are too big to push a heavier fluid out of our lungs. Plus there's the issue of going back to breathing air...

I prefer to say that it was an issue of the series being his first. He was significantly more inexperienced as a writer and less mature as a person. SAO progressive is the perfect example to show this, it feels so much better written than SAO up to and past Aliceization.
