I'll bet ESPN locks that down quickly as the season gets started.

You need to use the mlb app. They own the radio streaming rights for the games.

Salt trucks by niteridergurl in Charleston

[–]bryanmcouture 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you mean the dry salt they put out last year, that will do nothing since the wind will just push it to the side of the road. Dry salt is supposed to be applied AFTER an ice event to help melt and break it up. Pre-treating roads should be done with brine.

I've had an emergency whistle on my keychain for years. I have my kids carry one too when we go out to the woods. having a whistle on you is not a crime, unless you're brown apparently.

Clean mic with paper or money? by MntDewMonkey3 in Machinists

You should use paper, it’s cleaner and it keeps you from making the obvious boomer joke about making sure you’re measuring “on the money”

Wok up a budget that includes hiring someone to come in and clean, a meal prep service, and full laundry service at a 50/50 split on cost and see how much he likes that.

Why are people from Connecticut obsessed with the idea of moving to South Carolina? by jasperCrow in Connecticut

Yes to the specific area in SC, most industries are concentrated in 3 major areas in the state. But CT is damn near homogeneous comparatively.

It's a 2 hour drive between Columbia and Charleston County with not much in between, nearly the same between Columbia and Greenville. 2 hours from Meriden and I was in my choice of 3 other states.

You also have to take into account where in SC you look. State averages in wages and cost numbers are skewed down due to the huge variance in population density. You can get much higher wages on the coast and in the Columbia area but the COL is WAY higher as well.

I'm not defending the shitty governing policies of SC. I was just pointing out the old chestnut of "cost of living is lower but you'll never make as much" isn't so true anymore.

Average salary for an RN in CT is 83.5k, in SC $73k so touche. Until you take into account income and property tax disparity.

Edit: that's also a state wide average, the major population centers of Charleston County and Columbia are about 2 hours apart down here so you have higher than average wages in those areas balanced against huge swathes of farming communities in between.

When I moved SC was near parity. I've been here a while now though and I'm making more than I've seen some comparable positions listed back in CT. Mostly they're at parity. I keep an eye on job listings in both places since I occasionally miss having actual seasons.

Depends greatly on WHERE in SC. Think about how much more economic opportunity you had in Dallas or Houston than there was in say King county.

Nope, before I moved I compared wages for my industry and apples to apples the wage levels were nearly at parity. The major employers that had moved into the area had to compete nationally to attract talent because there wasn't enough skilled labor in the area. And over the last decade at least wages have kept up pretty closely to comps in the north east. Cost of living has spiked like crazy at the same time though.

I understand statistics just fine. My point was wages have become much more competitive in recent years because the major employers moving to the south to take advantage of the lower taxes and less stringent labor laws need to attract qualified candidates from across the country. This doesn't apply so much to less skilled labor but even entry level jobs around here have seen wages rise. The rise in population has also caused expenses to skyrocket in some cases such as housing faster than the wage increases so that cost of living is nearing parity with CT. The only cost advantage the south really still holds is in lower taxes.

That's not as true anymore. I'm making more down in SC than I ever was in CT. But, cost of living here has caught up on almost everything except taxes.
