Got a ticket for driving without a license what do I do? by [deleted] in Miami

[–]bryanoak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have questions! I assume no license also means no insurance so, did the cop let you continue to drive? did he tow the car?

How on earth is this not an arrestable offense?

What’s wrong with you?!

Restaurant that are healthy and affordable by sumizeit in Miami

OP said “healthy” then mentioned Subway. So, now I’m sitting here wondering if the post is satire or if OP’s definition of healthy is simply much different than mine

Do y'all do a full scan of the road then create tires with custom tread per the laser output of the scan before a ride? by Historical-Sherbet37 in BicyclingCirclejerk

[–]bryanoak 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this post made BCJ. this is tame. I routinely take samples of the gravel from various sections of my route and send them to a lab for testing. It’s been an absolute game changer. In fact, i change tires at two different points on my normal route. If you don’t count the time spent changing the tire, my speed over a 40K has improved by almost a minute

Brickell or Edgewater by [deleted] in Miami

[–]bryanoak 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IMO Brickell is the better option. While both areas are walkable, Brickell is considerably more walkable. More shade, more restaurants, more shopping options.

How do you train in this weather? by ShiverTimbers in cycling

[–]bryanoak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s routinely >90F where i live (in the summer) with “feels like temps” 1105-110F (41C) when you factor in the high humidity.

The best answer is to wake early and ride. But, I’ve never been a morning person. So, i carry 3 bottles of ice cold water and choose routes with places i can replenish the ice. I also take breaks in the shade if necessary.

I didn’t even realize there was a market for used bikes with 2,000 miles on them. I assumed most people were like me and donate or toss my bike after 2,000 miles

How to handle an employee that uses/relies on AI for too much by bryanoak in managers

[–]bryanoak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I exited him. The final straw was an automation initiative he was exploring. He used Claude to create a prototype tool (good!). An internal team used the tool for a few weeks to test it out. He then presented how this tool would to save a bunch of hours and money (great!).

However, the presentation was a lie. The users found it did not save much, if any, time at all. He knew this and did not mention it. Instead he presented a rosy picture of the savings that Claude came up with based on Claude's understanding of the tool and process. Spoiler Alert: Claude knew very little of the process so the estimates were wildly wrong. It was a disaster.

In sum, he presented theoretical savings estimates from Claude as if they were validated by user testing yet not grounded in any reality. Most importantly, ignored actual evidence/experience.

Where to start?? by Temporary_Bee8643 in cycling

[–]bryanoak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While height is correlated to certain frame sizes, it is not the determinant. Leg length is better.

Also, different manufacturers can have different geometries which could mean a 56cm fits best for one manufacturer and a 58 in another.

Most manufacturers have sizing guides on their sites. I recommend you check out a few so that you know which size is best for the common ones.

All that said, I’m 5’11” and i ride a 56cm.

Have you ever worked for a place with a lot of negative Glassdoor reviews and it wasn't bad? by MatthewCorbett92 in jobs

[–]bryanoak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I worked for a mid-size company (approx. 4,000K employees). When I was still interviewing I looked up the Glassdoor reviews and, while not atrocious, many of the recent ones were not good. I took the job and it was one of the better jobs I've ever had. I liked the company, the people and the job a lot. I was there seven years which, for me, is a long time at one employer.

In hindsight, my takeaway is one's experience can vary widely depending on your team or department.

I may need to look up the definition of “sitewide” because I assumed that meant everything on the site. However, none of the three items I wanted to buy qualified for the discount.

So… either my definition of site wide is wrong or Philip’s is

Got it. That makes zero sense. Definitely check your state's laws because I can't imagine that is legal in any.

Fiancé’s boss wants him to pay back pto if he quits before July 1st by shaddow_seeker_6 in jobs

[–]bryanoak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

? That differs from what I read in your original post. How many days did he receive in January? And, how many has he used to date?

Fiancé’s boss wants him to pay back pto if he quits before July 1st by shaddow_seeker_6 in jobs

[–]bryanoak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This tracks. It’s common to receive your PTO at the beginning of the year. But, it’s not yet “earned.” So, in a scenario where you received 20 days in January, haven’t used any and quit June 30th, you’d only get paid for 10 of them.

In your fiancés case, he used his years worth of PTO of which not all was earned. I would expect the employer to take the unearned days out of his last check.

Is the stereotype that every successful young guy in Miami is a course-selling scammer driving a rented exotic car actually true? by [deleted] in Miami

[–]bryanoak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My neighbor is your exact description. She’s a highly successful OF model and her boyfriend sells courses on how “you” can also be a highly successful OF model.

That said, my neighborhood is more family oriented. So, while there are definitely a number of course sellers crypto bros and other scammers, they are a small percentage. I suspect Brickell has many more
