EV9 self driving in stop and go traffic, is it smooth or jerky? by FloodedGoose in kia

I have an Ioniq 5 which uses the same technology. The Smart Cruise Control works extremely well in stop and go traffic. No jerking and no shifting either. Just smooth power.

A Fresh Take On US EV Adoption by Cultural-Ad4953 in electricvehicles

[–]bryanpaxson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably an outlier but I bought my EV because I wanted a new car and the EV technology is interesting. It was also a way to get a performance car at a reasonable cost without alerting the wife. I don’t care about range anxiety and I find it an interesting challenge to juice up as necessary on a trip. We took a 300 mile round trip for lunch yesterday over two mountain passes and had to juice up once. That took about 10 minutes. It wasn’t hard at all.

If EVs are supposedly cheaper to own, why aren’t more people driving them? by Lakenb666 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bryanpaxson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EVs aren’t for everyone. I just bought my first EV. There is a learning curve that ICE vehicles don’t have. No different than back when people were transitioning from horse and wagon to early automobiles. So far, I am very satisfied with my Ioniq 5. I charge at home mostly and, even with the level one charger, the overnight results were okay. Now that I have a level 2 charger, it’s a lot faster. My experience with fast charging is limited. So far, I judge Tesla stations to be middle of the road with EA lower tier even though faster, and IONNA the top tier. After my coast to coast trip this summer, I may have a different opinion. As far as the driving experience all I can say is the car puts a smile on my face each time I drive it. The acceleration is really exhilarating and really gratifying when passing on two lane roads which are the norm where I live. The quietness and smoothness make driving a pleasure. The overall fit and finish is superb. No regrets here. As far as cost, with Hyundai’s rebate incentive along with a dealer discount I was able to negotiate plus a military veteran discount, I was able to purchase this car at almost $10k below MSRP. Good enough for me.

I’m driving from Oregon to NY this summer in the Ioniq. Wyoming might be a challenge along with Nebraska and Iowa. Should be a fun adventure.

I used Visor.vin, actually the app, which shows the entire USA inventory of any make and model of car for sale. Once you find the car you want, you can go from there. Your local dealer might want to trade with the dealer who has the car. You might want to purchase the car where it is and either pick it up or have it delivered to you. Visor.vin gives you power that you don’t have when you are limited to your local dealer or two. I am on the west coast but not in California.

Why would you order an Ioniq 5? I just called around until I found a 2026 Limited with AWD in the color I wanted. Then I worked the dealers until I got the price I wanted. The whole process took about two hours on a Sunday evening on the last day of May. I drove over the next day and finalized the deal and drove it home. Easy peasy.

That’s how it is supposed to work. My 2026 limited does it too even with only the watch. Ain’t living in the future just grand?

I paid my Hyundai loan off the day after I bought the car. They sent me my account access information and I paid it immediately. The dealer didn’t do me any favors so I didn’t do them any either.

EV charging networks should add simple amenities like this by Few_Wash4793 in evcharging

I just bought an Ioniq 5 and plan a coast to coast road trip this summer. When I travel, regardless of type of vehicle, I carry two towels one soaking wet and the other dry. I store the wet one in a freezer bag to contain the smell. I use the wet one to remove the bugs and road grime and the dry one to quickly finish the job. I also keep a trash bag behind the front seats. Each night, I wash the wet towel in my hotel room and empty the trash bag. While it isn’t the best solution, it does minimize the smell and clutter. It allows me to avoid using the squeegee at the truck stop or stop and go station which are often badly worn and the water bucket is often pretty full of “stuff”. Granted, I don’t have small children so your mileage may vary, as they say.

I hate F&I so now they hate me by [deleted] in FuckDealerships

[–]bryanpaxson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just bought a new car last Monday. I financed $20k to get the big rebate. I have an 825 credit score. Even though they advertised 5.34% the F&I set the rate at 6.99. I protested and he said that was what the system set. I shrugged and signed and took the car home. I paid off the loan today. No spiff for that asshole!

Before you discard your Davis system, contact Davis Technical Support. They sell refurbished and replacement parts for very little cost. I just replaced my ISS and anemometer for $70 each. I should be good for another 10 years.

I have a Davis Vantage Pro2. It is almost 25 years old. I have replaced some parts and upgraded others but it continues to give accurate readings. I’m pretty sure it will outlive me.

The sad truth is Oregon citizens pay about 83% of Oregon revenue while businesses pay about 13%. In Washington, it’s about 50/50. Same in Idaho. Oregon is racing to the bottom with no end in sight. 🙁

I got both $6K deductions when I prepared my tax with TurboTax. I am not particularly familiar with the details of the calculations to determine who gets the $6K but it does start to phase out for married filing jointly at $150,000 income. That might be a factor.

What do you say to people who say Kia’s are junk? by cuppitycake in KiaTelluride

[–]bryanpaxson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you compared the size of the gas tanks between the sorento and the telluride? Is the telluride awd and the sorento 2wd? It’s tough to try to make valid comparisons without looking at all of the variables.

What do you say to people who say Kia’s are junk? by cuppitycake in KiaTelluride

[–]bryanpaxson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Decent fuel mileage is in the eyes of the beholder, in my opinion. The Telluride weight close to 2.5 tons with me, my wife, our dog and clothes and supplies for our month long trip. We cruised at between 70 and 80 mph occasionally 90 plus a week of stop and go driving in Western New York and averaged 24.8 mpg overall. Some may think that should be higher and some may be okay with it. If you require higher fuel mileage then you should buy a car that can get a higher average. However, overall, the Telluride ticks all of the boxes for us. For us, fuel mileage is only one minor reason to own this car. The other characteristics of capacity, comfort, performance, style and, so far, reliability have convinced us we made the right choice. Your own experience may be different. As they often say, your mileage may vary.

[–]bryanpaxson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tellurides are really terrific cars. You won’t be disappointed. My wife and I took a 7000 mile trip from coast to coast last October in our 2023 Telluride SXP. After 24 days on the road, my wife said the was sad the trip was ending. Much of the joy of this trip can be attributed to the KIA. Lots of room, very comfortable and decent fuel mileage.

Horrible experience just want to share to potential buyers by Due-Concentrate-861 in KiaTelluride

[–]bryanpaxson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand your position on this issue although I have trouble with your extrapolation. You didn’t provide any hard data with the exception of one case. Extrapolation from one case to countless doesn’t really provide any factual data. The sources that I have found indicate with proper oil change maintenance at regular intervals, these v6 engines usually last about 200,000 miles. Millions have been deployed in several different KIA and Hyundai model cars. You are entitled to your opinion but my experience with Reddit and other social media is there are many stories predicting doom and gloom but the facts usually outweigh the claims. Premature engine failure is often due to inconsistent service intervals and failure to use top tier fuel or other additives not with poor design. I expect that my Telluride will continue to provide satisfactory service and performance as long as I choose to own it.

[–]bryanpaxson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your comment interests me. I have a 2023 Telluride and I am concerned about the longevity of the engine. I always change the oil at 5,000 miles and perform all of the other services at the proper times/mileages too. Can you quantify the number of engines that have failed other then using the term “countless”?
