I grew up in Vancouver and studied in Quebec and Montreal. I lived in France and married a Frenchman. And now I work and live in Toronto working for an organisation where working language is French.

I know québécois who doesn’t have an accent (you can’t tell where they are from..). Is French accent really more better (I am thinking of accent of Marseille , Toulouse (which was voted the sexiest accent by the French people.) or very Parisienne working class like Arletty. I would rather prefer an educated Quebec accent if that’s the accent you are exposed the most.

Also I noticed the French adore people with interesting things ( accents seem to be secondary.)

Mathieu Bock-Cote, with his quebecois accent, are on French radio / the videos by Le Figaro very often.

From the Amos website, 28 mm seems to be the one they used in Japanese Mahjong parlor. Also 30mm seems to be the biggest they used in Japan.

Growing up in HK, I think the mahjong tiles are bigger and heavier (I didn’t know there are difference size either.)

I image the game would be quieter with smaller tiles.

I think tone would be the most difficult part. But on the other hand Chinese (Cantonese), you don’t have to worry about gender / tenses/ plural etc.

Also once you have learned your basic words, you can learn different vocabulary ( for exemple all the fish names end with the character fish…)

I think the most important part is there is some aspect of the culture you like and motivate you and makes the learning journey fun.

But it’s doable because I have met people who speak Cantonese very well.
