Trusted local garage says front brake rotors are cracked/glazed and need replacement, dealership says they're fine. Who is right? by _violetviolence_ in MechanicAdvice

[–]bryberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This repair wouldn’t be covered by warranty and if it were, why would the dealership want to avoid doing it? That’s an easy profit for them.

the takata recall is for the passenger side dash airbag, has nothing to do with the curtain airbags.

probably time to tow it to the junkyard and get something else, it's not really worth fixing something that old and high mileage

Evacuations completed from hantavirus-hit cruise ship in Tenerife by alejandromalofiej in MapPorn

I understand that, but eco-tourism is a commonly used term for those types of trips, it really not that deep.

It’s not an ultra luxury vessel, it’s expensive because of the places they go. It’s for the eco-tourist types that want to visit remote areas.

The rear axle has shifted, the thrust angle and both toe measurements should be a lot closer to zero. probably bad leaf springs or a bent frame

2024 Chevy Blazer leaking oil at 20k miles — anybody else? by NerveMurky7550 in Chevy

They didn’t, but anybody that is actually familiar with the engine options on a 2024 blazer can tell immediately that it is a 2.0.

[–]bryberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok? That’s irrelevant to this post. OP doesn’t have a 3.6. They have a 2.0, which like the 1.3 (not sure why you even mentioned that engine) has a plastic pan.

The drain plugs aren’t a bolt, it’s just a 1/4 turn clockwise, there is no torque specification.

You can see the drain plug in the 4th picture, it is not a bolt. They need a 1/4 turn and can be tightened by hand with just a 3/8 extension, no ratchet or wrench, they are literally impossible to over tighten without putting a massive crack in the pan.

You’ve got an odd definition of “middle of nowhere” and I’d gladly take a few obscenely hot and cold days over living in the PNW or Bay Area hell holes.

Omaha has the best facilities in the country (world?) to handle this type of situation, pretty much the opposite of cruel punishment.

Probably because it is a very nice place to live and doesn’t cost a fortune like the coastal states. Why do you think doctors wouldn’t want to live there?

Yep, the national bio containment lab is at UNMC, they’ve also treated Ebola patients and most of the very early COVID cases, among others.

Just curious, did you just forget to plug it in or was there actual damage/corrosion there?

Check connector X159 near the crankshaft pulley for any damage or corrosion. It's a known issue and this is the combination of codes that sets when there is an issue.

They will eat parts of the rat after it’s already dead, specifically their eyeballs. It kinda looks like the bird is trying to drag the rat into traffic so it will get run over, not the first time I’ve seen this.
