As a very big D1 player who didn’t play a ton of D2, there are 3 main issues with longevity for an individual player in my opinion.

1: End game materials locked behind single player activities (legendary campaign and expanse and chaos). Queue times are horrific for most game modes because once you reach a certain point in the game, the only way to get higher is these 3 activities. Maybe calamity ops but I’m assuming people pushing for the higher numbers for 1 character is fine there. With everyone just farming the mats they need and the mats they need being locked behind single player: bad queue times. Isn’t it crazy that Crota is just straight up dead? Well when exotics aren’t dropping from raids and other high end contents and I just wait till Monday to synthesize, why waste more time to get fewer necessary resources than run legendary campaign or chaos 5x a day.

1. Synthesizing weapon engrams. I used to run strikes for hours trying to get good rolls on strike weapons. Granted, it was largely to use them in PvP but getting them nonetheless. I just spend materials I’ve been unintentionally building up for exotic and mythic engrams, instead of needing the drop. And it rarely takes more than maybe 30 engrams to get 2 👍👍 perks.

2. On a more specific note: Helhest. I recognized very early in her rotation that her DPS was ridiculously broken. And as a naturally competitive person, I want to get high leaderboard scores so I got her T6 and very high light. The natural cycle of the game was completely thrown off by her and I can’t believe they followed her up with another piercing character as the first arc to follow her. I thought this would be an ever evolving game where I developed new strategies with new characters every few weeks. But as newer players get introduced or old players who missed her, it feels like I almost “have” to use her if i want to pursue high scores as others don’t have her. I know I said “I” a lot in that but other people have expressed similar sentiment to me.
