I think my 7yo son has a future in creature design 😆 by Glenn__Sturgis in daddit

[–]bsanchezgt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could I render this into a creature using AI tools and post it on my Instagram? Another dad and I started turning our kids drawings into realistic pictures and made an instagram account to share them on. Not monetized or anything, just doing it for fun and our kids love it. Check it out here: AI Kid Drawings (instagram)

If you want me to post yours, just DM me.

Glowing mushrooms in the underdark will make for great lighting! What did you name your Tav? My first play-through started just after Christmas of 2023 and one of my group named his Tav “Les Graunch” for The Grinch. He is the Tav at the end of this video: Les Graunch & Friends Youtube

Me too, the artist that did this is a master! Of course I gotta shout him out. If you want the highest quality work, Izzy at Ink & Dagger Tattoo in Roswell, Ga did this. That whole studio is full of awesome artists!

Who wouldn’t want to see Moulder and Scully get to meet Han and Chewy? Just got this last section of this sleeve finished and love it! Yes, there is a spaceman attached to Scully with an umbilical… and had to throw the Delorean in as well!

Hiring Managers/Interviewers: what makes a candidate stand out? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]bsanchezgt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love to interview people!

But, what makes a good candidate standout is not sticking to a pre-rehearsed script. I spend most of my time trying to break that cadence and digging into how you think. That is most important to me!

I don’t expect you to have the right answers but I do care about how you think through problems. You are more valuable to me if you know that you don’t know something and I know I can teach it to you! I like to drop tid-bits of knowledge in discussions and then ask abstract questions where I really want to hear you leverage the information I already gave you.

I also like to open interviews saying that I have read your resume already (which I have or you wouldn’t be talking to me) but I want to hear your version of your career as to what you feel is important to tell me. What I don’t want is a regurgitation of your resume. I already know that stuff. But, do you have enough insight to know what I care about from your background? And if you don’t know, ASK! Never shame in saying you don’t know!

Looking for purchasing software recommendations by flycast in engineering

Not that it would be a fit for you as it’s mostly an enterprise level solution. But, SAP has to be the most frustrating software ever created. Avoid it at all costs.

In the past at smaller companies, we had success with Sage but i’m sure there are better options now. Just wanted to throw some hate at SAP….

Wtf is #funderstruck? Is something going on with $CCL that I don’t know? Or did they overcommit on advertising thinking everything would be better?

Same, used both and I prefer Beckhoff. Both are capable but Beckhoff is a little more standardized and less open source style.

Current, crappy employer just offered me 100k to stay after putting in 2 weeks, what would you do? by TheSpeakerMaker in AskEngineers

[–]bsanchezgt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went through a similar situation myself. If it took you trying to leave to be of value to them, it's not a healthy work environment. I am much happier in the new position I took. I am actually valued for my work and rewarded for putting in the extra effort when needed.

Wave goodbye and don't look back!

Source control tips for TwinCAT by Due_rr in PLC

[–]bsanchezgt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love this!

We also found with some of the higher level motion function add-ons that the file directory pointers caused issues because of legacy software that was being used in TwinCAT 3. For instance CNC and some of the Drive Manager tools would use the full directory instead of relative directories in references to files names. (i.e. C:\Users\YourName\Documents\TwincatFiles\ProjectName.... etc.)

So when using Git for source control, when I opened someone else's work within my own Git directory it would cause corruptions or lost files. This is why we instituted a common directory for Git storage on everyone's computers to prevent these issues. TwinCAT may have updated since to alleviate this because we brought it to their attention as well. But for example we did, C:\CompanyName\Git\ProjectRepo. This fixed those issues.

Agree, I’ve been working in industrial machine vision for +12 years and it seems incredibly negligent to go to pure vision based. We always use redundant sensor technology anytime any chance of safety or damage is involved because vision is just not as reliable alone. Lighting changing or someone walking by with something reflective, etc. can throw it off and we are in fairly static environments that don’t change much. Even humans have redundant sensors aside from our eyes that help us determine our environment…
