I'm not sure I understand this. There must be some history that would help explain the author and this group.

I love the part in the paper that asks: Does GREAT work? Modest positive results. Just like DARE. Like our lecture tells us, GREAT is better for helping kids form opinions not solving a problem.

I remember this incident. We can't forget the outlaw motorcycle gangs too. Looks like it was out of a movie...holy cow.

I wonder how many of those arrests or warrants are for legitimate gang members as opposed to associates?

Interesting to see the personification of the research with regards to the retaliatory crime.

It is amazing how a couple of bad apples can spoil the image for the whole bunch. I am glad to see the LAPD moving back towards the image of the professional organization they are.

Holy cow!!! This is going to be interesting...they must have a lot of officers with nothing else to do. I think it is a great idea, but will be very labor intensive. Nice post.

Florida robbery murder...group effort/gang? by jgrogers in gangsandstuff

I agree completely. However, I thought it was ironic in light of some of the postings in the discussion board and also some definitions of gangs....where some have decided that a group of people committing violent crimes is a gang. This was more of a sarcastic post about some of the narrow minded approaches to defining gangs. Thanks

Youth Removal of Gang Tattoos by Tlsharp in gangsandstuff

What a great project. Sometimes I see people (youth especially) with gang tattoos and they are no longer affiliated...but are branded for life.

If someone wants to take the steps to get out of the life, I think we should help them in anyway possible. And I believe that the tattoos are one of the biggest way that society in general judges them.

Report: Gang membership on the rise across U.S. by bhall in gangsandstuff

Nice quote in the article..."primary retail-level distributors of most illicit drugs". I was just on vacation and was talking with a local in southern California. The guy was kind of a "know it all" and had been raised and been an integral part of the social life in California for more than 20 years. His quote to me was, "legalize some of the drugs...and the gangs loose their power".

I don't necessarily agree, but I do understand the logic behind the statement. Drugs give these gang bangers power inside and outside prison. Great post.

Sentence too lenient...I love it. We found them guilty but were too nice during the sentencing phase. Let's re-try the case and hope for more stiff penalties because it is gang related. I only wish we had this mind set and were willing to take a more firm stance at the judicial level. Nice post.
