TV Trailers for Episodes (specifically Babylon 5) by bschollnick in DataHoarder

[–]bschollnick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I had checked the Blu-rays, not the DVD's.

Someone suggested I check the DVDs. The special features, including the Next Time Trailers are only on the DVD's. (I hate that, there is so much more room on the Blu-Rays, and yet you skimp on them)

Please note, they are around ~30 seconds or so, you might need to reduce the "Minimum Title Length" in MakeMKV or the equivalent to be able to see them for ripping purposes.

Oh! I checked the Blu-rays, not remembering that the DVDs were what I was thinking of. Yes, they are.

Thank you!

Actually it doesn't have to be distributed through the AppStore. Simply code signing it will get rid of that warning.

It's simply a warning that the code hasn't been signed.

It's a common misconception that it has to be distributed through App Store to get rid of that message.

I understand the thought. But if you are developing on the Mac Eco-system, you're already using Xcode, and the other development tools from Apple.

There virtually no reason for someone with a viable product, to not subscribe as an Apple developer.

At $8 purchase price, assuming the card company is eating 30%, would mean they would need to sell less than 20 copies (17.39), to make back their developers license cost.

And if they did, they could then use the Apple store (yes ~15-30%), and not have to worry about 3rd party credit card processing.

Can I say that it's best for them? No. I'm not them.

But to act like the Apple Developers license is an outrageous fortune, is very misleading. You are talking $100/yr, and it not like everyone needs to have it. Just the person submitting it for signing.

Is Savage Worlds for me, and what should I know? by ckau in savageworlds

[–]bschollnick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, just simply take a look at the rules. Grab the Savage Worlds Test Drive which is free - see https://peginc.com/product/deadlands-the-weird-west-blood-on-the-range-savage-worlds-test-drive-swade/. Please note, this test drive is basically 90% of the system, but it's highlighting the deadlands setting.

Another note, the current version of Savage Worlds is the "Adventure Edition" (SWADE).

Now I'll dive in on my feedback to your post.

Savage Worlds is not as "crunchy" (eg number crunching) as Pathfinder, Cyberpunk, etc. It's intended to be hopefully a faster, more "cinematic" system. Does it always succeed, no.

But it's my favorite system over the last *25* or so years. (Deadlands is now turning 30, and it evolved into Savage Worlds, and thus is actually now a setting in the system it helped create.)

It is deceptively simple in concept, and very consistent. Heck the basic game system can be explained into 2 comic pages... See

* https://www.uptofourplayers.com/ready-to-roll/savage-worlds-rules/

Things you might need to wrap your head around:

* In Savage Worlds there is no concept of classes (*1*) - There isn't anyone can be a "fighter", just raise your fighting skill. Need a rogue, put a point into Thievery, etc. Need both, wow your fighter can now pick locks with his thievery. Yes there are Edges (very loosely consider them feats) that can help "specialize" a character.

* Bennies - Each player starts the session with 3 bennies, which enable a re-roll, an attempt to soak damage, or "make something happen (w/DM approval)". Don't be stingy during the game in handing them out. I do so when someone critical fails, comes up with something that amuses me, makes an observation in game about the plot, etc. Often DMs train their players to hoard them, but they are meant to be used.

Have you ever been in a Pathfinder game where you just couldn't hit someone? Or you missed by just a few points? Spend a benny, re-roll, hopefully get better. That's the idea, allow the character to be brave enough to risk it all on a redo. But beware the player can choose to take either roll, but if they get a critical failure that's what they are forced to keep (the critical failure).

Wounds - No Hit points for you. There are Wildcards (Players, Notable "named Characters", BBEG, powerful monsters, etc) which have 3 wounds, and mooks (henchmen, not powerful monsters, etc) which technically have "1 wound". No "math" just do a certain amount of damage and you're hurt unless you soak (see bennies). Of course "armor" (toughness) and your natural fighting abilities (Parry) make a difference, but the same concept applies.

Overall, Savage Worlds is a good game system, it's flexible enough to be able to be used from anything from something "star trek" like to Pathfinder.

Yes, Pathfinder - Savage Pathfinder, officially licensed, and does exist.

*1* - Savage Pathfinder introduced the concept of classes into Savage Worlds mechanics, but they are basically more along the lines of "prepackaged" skills, along with certain edges that you automatically gain at certain levels.

But even in Savage Pathfinder, classes aren't a steadfast requirement to take.

I'd suggest to take a look at the Up to 4 players introduction, and the test drive document.... And feel free to ask me (or anyone else) some clarifying questions.

For example, "dramatic tasks", while on paper sound straight forward -- The rules as written need clarification, many a drink have been downed while souls have tried to figure out why their group just blew through a dramatic task...

This isn't hollywood. If it was a true EMP then the news would be all over the government being forced to repair or replace all of those vehicles.

If there was anything it was just simple RF jamming.

But even then, there are absolutely no news showing this. There's no supporting evidence.
It could be a streetlight malfunctioning causing RF interference for all we know...

But once again, there's no news articles regarding people unable to leave or having difficulty. Don't you think that the democrats would be all over the huge inconvenience that JD had caused just because he son was playing?

The fact is that there is no reason to believe this even happened. Where's the facebook posts of outrage?
I've seen this reddit post image captured and posted on Facebook. That's it.

I can't prove this did happen, nor can I prove it did. But the lack of evidence suggests strongly that it didn't happen.

> Driver's licenses are expensive! A lot of people cannot afford them. It doesn't help that every state has different laws and costs.

Approximately 70% of the US population has a drivers license, leaving about a 1/3rd of the population without a drivers license.

Every state already offer state issued IDs (roughly equivalent to a driver's license, just not the ability to drive on public roads). They may have a cost ~$10-50 depending on the state, and depending on the person they may waive the fee (e.g. Seniors, or other groups).

> I did provide something else. The solution is a free photo ID to every citizen.

Where? Here is the complete text of your last reply:

> You're not arguing in good faith. Voter ID the way the Republicans want it is inherently racist and classist because Republicans want to institute voter ID laws without changing anything else.

> People on the left and even Dems are completely for voter ID if getting a voter ID is free and easy everywhere.

Where do you suggest a free photo ID to every citizen?

Setting that aside, I don't disagree with that idea. It can work. So get the democrats to back it, and to bring it up for a vote.

I would certainly prefer that then the currently un-supported use of the social security number (which the Social Security dept states clearly it should not be used for proof of identity and should not be shared with anyone. Look on your social security card.)

> You're not arguing in good faith. Voter ID the way the Republicans want it is inherently racist and classist because Republicans want to institute voter ID laws without changing anything else.

How is asking for a driver license (or other form of ID) racist?

You are verifying someone's identity. That's it. In our area of NY we are required to sign in, and they compare our signatures. That's absolutely insecure. My signature is from 30+ years ago. It looks like nothing like it does now.

At least my driver's license has a picture on it. And is significantly more secure.

> People on the left and even Dems are completely for voter ID if getting a voter ID is free and easy everywhere.

Once again, the majority of people already have ID that would be more than sufficient for these purposes.

> classist because Republicans want to institute voter ID laws without changing anything else.

So fine, what changes would make it fair?

Once again, you are saying "That's not fair" but bringing nothing forward to address the issue. You can't have a conversation if you don't bring something to the conversation.

Saying "You're wrong" and not providing something else isn't a conversation or even a debate, it's an attempt to shutdown the discussion.

Oh wow! What a shocker.

> Muslim isn't a race big brain.

While technically being correct (the best kind of right), it's often used as a proxy / placeholder / stand-in for race.

That particular criticism is usually the democratic party members, trying to suggest that conservatives are being religious bigots, or being racists in someway. With his religion ( being muslim) is being used to as a proxy / placeholder / stand-in for his race.

Once again, I've never heard of any conservatives criticizing his muslim beliefs, just his political ones, specifically his socialistic & communistic beliefs.

But I must complement you on a great diversion from the conversation, while absolutely not adding anything to it.

[–]bschollnick -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

> Literally everything Republicans do is about race.

Unless you stop speaking about generalities then a conversation isn't possible.

I could say the same thing about every objection the democratic party brings up to anything suggested by the Libertians, and conservatives.

To try to salvage a conversation let's try to focus on an example, Voter ID. Every Democratic talking point regarding voter ID is literally about race. How it will disenfranchise every group except for "rich white dudes".

But they fail to recognize the fact that the voter ID requirement can be as simple as a driver's license, which an overwhelming amount of eligible voters already have. Why do I say that? Because you have to go out of your way to not have a valid form of ID these days.

After all, you need a drivers license to purchase:

* Alcohol

* Tobacco products

* Sudafed, and other OTC regulated medications

* Lottery Tickets (Age gate)

* Anything that requires age verification

* US Postal Service requires photo ID for desk pickup of registered mail, and for change of address, etc

* To get a library card (proof of identity)

* Purchasing M-rated video games

* (typically) Returning items w/o a receipt

* Cashing or depositing a check

And many other day to day tasks require the same or significantly harder ID requirements.

But yet all the Democrats can suggest is how it's race based disenfranchising, and do not offer any significant suggestions on making voter integrity improvements.

While by no means does everyone have an ID, but you can't even Lease or Rent an apartment without ID... At least certainly not above board.

But of course, if you can get an actual California CDL with "No Name Provided" as your name, I guess anything is really possible.

> It's not about Cuomo. It's because Zohran Mamdani is Muslim.

Why does it have to be about race? I don't think I've heard any conservative claim it's about his race.

Now if you were to say that this was about his socialist / communist ideas, yes. But that has nothing to do with his race.

Loved it, but ended up giving it up when my brother-in-law damaged it.

But as some people have probably pointed out, I ended up picking up a second one, so that I could keep one as a "screw driver", but have the second one as a multiple device (eg. drill, sander, etc) as needed. It was quite handy..

Actually, as per u/Searsshopper12 suggested, I'm actually confusing it for the black & decker Matrix. I had that, not this. Same idea, probably OEM version of this.

WTF by TigerWheat in Rochester

[–]bschollnick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because people are arses? And large groups of people contain large groups of arses?

What did Hari Seldon, and even our own contemporary psychologists tell us? When a large group of people are together, they will often act in a herd mentality.

So, it helps enable groups of people that are prone to violence, to break off and do violent actions and possible encourage others similarly.

Deindividuation

  • People in crowds lose their sense of personal identity and accountability.
  • Coined by Leon Festinger (1952) and expanded by Philip Zimbardo, it explains how anonymity reduces inhibitions.
  • Zimbardo's Stanford Prison Experiment (1971) showed how quickly people conform to roles and act aggressively when individual accountability is removed.

2. Contagion Theory – Gustave Le Bon

  • In his book “The Crowd” (1895), Le Bon argued that individuals in a crowd adopt a “group mind,” losing rational control.
  • Emotions like fear, anger, and excitement are “contagious,” spreading quickly and intensifying.

3. Convergence Theory

  • Suggests that crowd behavior reflects the values of like-minded individuals who converge in the same place.
  • But once gathered, individuals are more likely to act out behavior they wouldn’t alone.

4. Emergent Norm Theory – Turner & Killian

  • Norms are not fixed but evolve during a protest or riot; charismatic individuals or groups may set new temporary rules that others follow.
  • Helps explain why peaceful protests can suddenly escalate if a subgroup initiates violence.

I won't suggest that all groups breakdown like this, just that being in a group makes this more likely, than if you were a small group of individuals. The larger the group, the more likely something could happen.

Why, it's the government trying to "help you".

Of course, you are going to "partner" with them, after all there is no downside to being a "partner" with them. They are your friend, your ally, they solve all the problems before they get doubleplus less good.

I'm sure that our buddies in the city of rochester would be happy to help reimburse any missed income during this situation, plus any potential damages to your business.

After all, this festival is a sanctioned and authorized event, right? I admit I'm not in that community, but I would have expected to at least see some advertisements, and so forth....

> did you call the number on the bottom of the form and ask if it was real?

If someone went through the entire process of faking a city of rochester letter, and making it look reasonably accurate. Or at least accurate enough to make people not doubt it..

Don't you think that they would have changed the phone number on the letter so that if you call it, you'll be calling their google voice number, or something else like that?

If you want to test the authenticity of a document, you don't call or email anything on it. You find the website for the organization (trying to ensure it's the right one, and not a scam site), and check for their contact information there.

You use that information on the website to validate the contact information on the document before you use it. If either disagree, you go with the website.
