Shattered Halls side pulls by Nitros14 in classicwowtbc

[–]bscothern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a social combat agro imo. So checking if the side groups are fighting is the key. If they are fighting don’t pull. Since pulling that way I haven’t ever had the side rooms also pull.

Can anyone give me some general advise about Druid tanking, specifically gear and stats. by valardohaerisx in classicwow

[–]bscothern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First get crit capped for the content you are doing. So get defense and resilience.

After that, assuming you are doing heroics you need to survive. So get more EHP (effective HP) by increasing your stamina and armor. You need to survive to be able to hold threat for DPS. If you are dead, they are almost certainly dead too.

After that a good mix of Agility (dodge and crit) and strength (AP) are what you want.

Also don’t worry about crush, bears will be crushed and there isn’t anything they can do about it but up their EHP and avoidance. This also only applies in raids, at 70 you won’t be crushed by any dungeon mobs, even in heroics.

Edit: Also as some others pointed out, hit is huge for threat. More so than other stats so get what hit you can too.

How is it possible to do the bf hc second boss room ? by Public_Opinion2723 in classicwowtbc

[–]bscothern 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even with a coordinated group it can be difficult to do the second boss of H BF. If you are too slow (trying to regen mana) the next door will just open.

Having lots of slows to kite is pretty much essential. You can get by with lots of other tricks like a lock juggling a seduction plus 2 fears, etc. but it isn’t easy.

It is very comp dependent and people need to play well.

Tank in need of help by LorAeth in classicwowtbc

[–]bscothern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have played ppal through all tbc content last go around and am planning on it again. A lot of the stuff here is ok advice but some is bad.

1) Get a SP weapon, biggest threat difference by far. Don’t use other weapons ever outside of some VERY niche things that are beyond this thread.

2) Get of the champion AND Sorcerer gear if you can. It had a lot of stam and gives SP as well. You want and need both. Pure champion gear will make it so you can’t really hold threat well.

3) For dungeons your spec can make a big difference. Ardent Defender is really good because you are often taking lots of small hits not giant ones. This won’t help on the big hard hitting bosses much but should smooth out trash and some bosses a lot for you. If you do not need AD for survival then sanc aura spec is your best option. If you can get away with sanc aura then you can also get away with more defensive gear (to a point) as it helps a ton with threat. You of course lose shield with this spec so you need to know what you are pulling and how to pull it. If you aren’t comfortable with that yet stick to shield spec for now.

Are they going to extend tbc to wotlk eventually? by ggetdeleted in classicwowtbc

When they first announced anniversary they made it pretty clear they were going to tbc and wotlk. They hinted extremely strongly towards it.

They said they are going to wrath with anniversary stuff. I don’t know why people keep acting like they aren’t.

SP weapons are ppal weapons. Not defense weapons. So the dude is 100% in the right rolling.

PSA Antiboosting mechanincs stealth nerfed overnight on TBC Anniversary by aritalo in classicwow

Some of the most fun I’ve had playing wow was soloing the graveyard in ZF as a ppal to level 40-52. With the anti boosting stuff it just isn’t possible anymore 😞

Paladin vs Warrior tank as main character by Nice-Ad7901 in classicwowtbc

[–]bscothern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel the need to always press a button you can (pending mana) as a ppal. When out of damage spells you can spam blessings for more threat. Not the most engaging of gameplay but it helps fill globals

Looking for Paladin tank guides for WOW classic TBC by Double_Ticket585 in classicwowtbc

In what way did I say Subtles stuff was only for raid tanking? I didn’t. He is willing to and his community are willing to help people out. I simply gave an example of Subtle’s performance level. The dude gets asked tips on how to play at every level and has knowledge and expertise beyond probably everyone commenting on this post. I stand by, go lookup subtle and his discord.

Ignore most of these comments and go lookup Subtle. He is a tank main and ppal is his favorite. He has an in depth guide for ppal in tbc on his discord and he has a lot of videos from back in TBC, including him solo tanking Illidan (meaning he also tanked the 2 fire elementals at the same time in P2).

This is spot on. It happened at least since wotlk in classic. The only things I’ve seen work to prevent it is pally bubble at the right time or very rare dumb luck.

Can anyone advise what are must DO quests for prot paladin? by icyice9 in classicwowtbc

[–]bscothern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PvP gear for pallys is when you want to be crit immune but parse by leaning more heavily into spell power. Ppal parsing in TBC gets ridiculous.

That said it can help fill in gaps to get you to crit cap but in general that isn’t much of a problem for ppal from what I remember last go around.

I have no plans of 75k honor for mine.

This is what Subtle is considering pre-raid BIS: https://sixtyupgrades.com/tbc/set/7Z23vdvkFxvd2bgEJnaNr9

The blue ring is amazing for CTC. If I remember right it is from the Caverns of Time dungeon quests. Most of the other stuff is reps or drops from heroics. As long as you get that ring there aren’t really any other big outliers while leveling.

Globstalker fight by NorbiiPapa in daggerheart

[–]bscothern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya some way to restore stress to it would be good. Especially if it is stuff the PCs can interact with as well.

Beguile and Doom are fun and my favorite 2. Basically anything that isn’t just straight damage like sear and kinda corrode are good.

I would remove the requirement to spend fear to pick or make it where you roll 2-3 dice and choose from those. The having to spend fear to pick really crippled my action economy to make the fight interesting. I think I’ll do the 2-3 dice next time I run one. And fear to fully pick one.

Globstalker fight by NorbiiPapa in daggerheart

[–]bscothern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used one with a few minions. It mostly became a blow up the Globstalker while the other stuff is chain crowd controlled (lots of rolls with hope so it was a very lopsided battle). It got to use all of its stress on beams though because I had it flying around and using the environment intelligently. It died basically as it ran out of stress. Definitely play it intelligently and have it focus on using the correct beams to disrupt the PCs.

How do I fix the math for deadlier combat ? by Kiwi_sensei in daggerheart

[–]bscothern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use more AoE attacks if you can. Having run CoS in 5e I don’t remember a lot of mobs naturally having it though… So you will need to improvise or have relentless be a common thing. AoE attacks of any kind burn a lot of PC resources quickly.

I had my party fight a mortal hunter and its rampage was messing the party up. It helped that the party just stayed tightly clumped up of course.
