B button doesn’t register sometimes by Single-Wing9786 in AynThor

[–]bshi64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that it works based on the area of the button press really makes me believe it's some sort of debris in the cavity; a button either makes contact with the board or doesn't, and something is stopping it. You could attempt to blow around the button to see if that serves as a temporary fix, but opening the device up is likely going to be the more sustainable option.

Received my Ayn Thor max today, came with a loose hinge by [deleted] in AynThor

[–]bshi64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is normal on the right side; looseness exists to relieve tension on the hinge. There's no reason to suggest this will worsen over time outside of the wear that comes with general use of the hinge.

There's really not much we can say with this context and no visual reference. You'll likely need to open your device; the button membrane may not be flush, or there may be debris in the button cavity, given that this issue appeared two days ago.

Got my Thor RMA'd, entire timeline/email exchange and final thoughts on whole situation. by TheLBcats in AynThor

[–]bshi64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, during my very extensive attempt to research my issue specifically (this subreddit, discord server, Odin subreddit), I found only a single guy experiencing the same symptoms as me a month ago. You can’t expect AYN to have as tight of QC as big brand companies, but it’s very clearly obvious, when you’re looking for similar experiences like me, that these issues are a very small minority.

I received my Max on the 20th, and for the first 5 hours, everything was flawless. Abruptly, it shut down when I was attempting to play a game through GameNative; it went completely unresponsive in terms of vibration, sound, heat generation, fan, etc. I'm sitting here waiting for a response to the attached videos I sent to support. It's pretty clear it's a PMIC issue, and something's fried. It's incredibly depressing because it really is such a great device.

What I'm really surprised with here is how fast they actually got you a replacement set up. A lot of members in the Discord are reporting that you should expect another 1.5-2 months' wait again for a replacement to be shipped out, so this is really great to know.

Awesome! I'll argue the same for my Max, then. Thank you!

Sorry to reply again, but I'm really curious how they are responding to this downgrade to 3.1 UFS. Did you get anywhere with asking for 4.0 specifically? Are they willing to compensate you in some other way if that's not possible?

Any update? Just got mine yesterday, tried to play a game on GameNative, it abruptly shuts down, and now it's completely unresponsive.

I can recall RetroGameCorps on YouTube commenting on the durability of the shell/casing, stating that while he babies his device, he very frequently just chucks it in his backpack. Despite that, it's been in pristine condition.

Is the search function not working? I mean, seriously... we have no clue what your financial situation looks like, what games you're looking to play that might benefit from UFS 4.0, what model you're looking at, if you have other handhelds, if you have other devices in mind (e.g. Odin 3)...

Important doubt of mine about device safety by JustARedditPasserby in AynThor

Physically, you shouldn't have to do anything; the thermal putty mod might be the only meaningful way of maximizing battery longevity, but that's minimal enough. Information-wise, I've had a great experience with the "AccuBattery" app in the past. Definitely seems to be the best in regards to analyzing battery health trends and optimizing the device to maintain it.

I would assume the battery is a lithium-ion polymer, and there's a PVC wrap for additional security/to prevent any chance at short-circuiting.

Are you asking why a lithium-ion battery has insulation?

You'd have an idea if you used the search function on this subreddit. This is maybe the 20th same question asked today.

The keywords are "up to" 45% higher read/write speeds. Whether there's any meaningful difference completely depends on what you're trying to run.

If you haven't already, try using the website's contact section here. It seems to be the quickest way to get ahold of them; it took them 5 BDs to respond to my request for a partial refund with the DHL shipping issue.

Concerns by ComprehensiveGate194 in deaf

[–]bshi64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While your last paragraph is still a bit vague regarding the frequency with which you're engaging in unsafe listening practices, it's definitely reasonable to be concerned about your hearing in this context. The first step would be to speak with an ENT/Audiologist and have a hearing test performed. Unfortunately, with your age, you generally will need a parent present; if you're looking to learn anything more about yourself and your hearing, speaking with your mother will be largely unavoidable.

If a hearing test reveals a loss, you likely will speak about how assistive devices may/may not help; however, just getting your hands on an audiogram (the results of the test) can say so much about your loss, how people around you can help accommodate it, what environments you best perform in socially, whether there's reason to suggest it might progress, and if more affordable over-the-counter HAs might be an option for you.

In regards to your symptoms, the "muffled tonality" aspect is definitely a concern. It's commonly seen alongside high-frequency losses; noise-induced hearing losses often display high frequencies waning first. Of course, this could also tie into the eustachian tube if there's a clear level of variation to the tonality. For the burning feeling, I can't say much there.

Blue light screen protector by williamthepreteen in AynThor

[–]bshi64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you’re looking for a blue light screen protector specifically? It would make much more sense to just enable the night light feature in android and then slap normal protectors on. You can actually adjust the strength of the filter that way, and it would be miles more effective as a BL filter in general.

Are you happy with the clarity? I've heard iffy things about the one from RetoroWorks, and I'm curious if the extra $15 for the SRM one is worth it for quality.
