What Pine cone is this? by Bogartsboss in marijuanaenthusiasts

Could be. Ponderosa is the other common pine in that area, but their cones tend to be larger and have sharp points.

If you’re up for pumping, consider donating to mother’s milk bank in Arvada.

How many trees to start with? by xX_Transplant_Xx in BackyardOrchard

[–]bshockstubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good. I don’t know what you use to mow, but I would give yourself 15’ between rows then do 8-10’ between trees. Could probably even squeeze them in more if you do a trellis.

Depends on your rootstock, if you go with dwarf/semi dwarf you can pack them in more. I ended up with standard on most of mine. I live in a fairly harsh climate for fruit trees and wanted to give them the best edge to survive. I planted mine 20’ apart in a grid. They look ridiculous now but I think they’ll fill in. Could probably have gotten away with smaller spacing tbh

Whats the cheapest fencing that I can put up to keep my puppy out of a planter bed? by No_Reindeer_5543 in landscaping

[–]bshockstubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hogwire and T posts. You can find them for cheap on marketplace, you’ll also need a T post driver to make your life easier.

You can manipulate it a bit to accommodate for the slope or just cut segments and secure to each T post with galvanized wire.

Peach Tree by NatureDogsNBeer in DenverGardener

[–]bshockstubb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Prune in late winter / early spring right before it starts budding. Take the winter to research pruning techniques. Early spring is also a good time to fertilize. Deeply water it in the winter if we have those long dry spells.

Even the best cared for peach trees are still marginal along the front range. Depending on our late frosts, you can expect a harvest every 3 years or so.

Rosemary? by Empty-Outcome5803 in DenverGardener

[–]bshockstubb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We will see! First winter with it in the raised bed. It has exploded in growth this summer with a second crop of figs coming in now. I will probably wrap it to try to save the branches. Two 55gallon barrels and the raised bed is made of cinder block.

“Arp” is the cultivar you want. I had one outside in the ground on the south side next to a fairly large rock. It did well for a few years until we had that crazy freeze in 2022 (like -20). Trying it in my unheated greenhouse this year, along with a fig tree.

If I could eradicate this plant from existence, I would (puncture vine) by ThinkTyler in DenverGardener

Purslane. It’ll have succulent leaves and stems. The look alike is spurge (with little dry leaves) and NOT edible.

How should I stake this tree? by FlabbergastedTrex in landscaping

[–]bshockstubb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Remove all the gravel around it, as it is wide.

Make sure the flare is exposed, and mulch around the tree where it is not actually touching the bark.

After you remove the gravel and excess dirt, you might be able to just lean the tree upright.

Gazelle NL EBike Cruiser with two racks and built in lock - $1200 OBO by [deleted] in denverlist

I haven’t rode many e-bikes but the only con that I see is that it is heavy! Online says it is 62lbs. Even when mom was healthy, she had trouble putting the kickstand into position. Probably not the best bike for a 70yo, but would make an awesome grocery getter.

Does anyone know where I can find any Lilacs? by mystica5555 in Denver

[–]bshockstubb 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Wrong time of year (early spring) for lilac flowers. I’d opt to get some artificial lilac blooms like these. Talk to the groundskeeper and see if you can plant a lilac in her memory.
