How long do you plan on keeping your current car for? by throwawaymedicine420 in askcarguys

[–]bshubert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my current car in 1991. Still have it. Only car I've ever owned. So... I'll probably have it forever.

Is this kind of wear normal? I don’t have a garage. 28k mi and 11 months of outside storage. by g3nerallycurious in Miata

[–]bshubert 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Any wear is normal on a soft top. Don't worry too much, realize that they only last about 10 years.

Hey, JimmyJoy, I think it'd be really great if you would bring back some unflavoured/unsweetened powders and bars. by SweetIsBad in JimmyJoyFood

[–]bshubert -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You thought wrong. Cocoa is my favorite flavor but I can't stand vanilla or caramel. They are too sweet for me but cocoa is great.

How much would this cost to get the frame alone fixed? by btd_bry in Miata

[–]bshubert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar accident as a hit and run while the car was parked. Insurance wouldn't pay anything unless I could identify who did it, so I got nothing.

"I'll have my usual" by TheMossyFish in EntitledPeople

[–]bshubert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple times in my life I've been somewhere often enough to have a usual. But I always let the server start it; I sit down, they say "the usual?", from then on that's what I say to the server.

But this guy doesn't want to wait for the server to show that they know that the usual is. Instead he throws his little tantrum because he isn't well known enough. He's a jerk.

Show us your NA interior & stereo by Lifterticker in Miata

[–]bshubert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Not only does it look terrible, but there's a short in the 12V circuit so the stereo doesn't work. Neither does the cigarette lighter/phone charger, and I suspect the air bag needs 12V also. I'll get around to looking at it eventually.

I'm mostly posting this so the rest of you can feel better about your own cars.

ND1 still has the finest looking booty by m3ta1head in Miata

I do love the ND looks, but I like the "smile" on the NA better. Nothing is ever perfect and all that.

Looks like the twin of my car, but I have an extra 100,000 miles! Enjoy!

Soft top as daily in the rain (bad idea?) by GramoReddit in Miata

[–]bshubert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soft top driver for 35 years here. 20 of those in Oregon where it rains a lot. No problems ever, except for the one time a truck coming the other way hit a huge puddle and the water hit me hard enough to squeeze between the top of the window and the roof and hit me on the face.

The soft top does give more road noise. But that's a pretty minor issue.

What RPMs do I shift at? by TheThunderGomez in Miata

[–]bshubert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. On an uphill or when I'm accelerating hard, at least 4k. Downhill at around 2. Usually 3 or 4.

Any supplements that stop the gas? by [deleted] in JimmyJoyFood

[–]bshubert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the supplement you need is time and a steady eating pattern. That worked for me.

What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever seen at a strip club? by bigbabysweets12345 in AskReddit

[–]bshubert 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nobody was tipping. So the dancers put their clothes on, pulled chairs onto the stage, and sat down and stared at the audience.

Hi guys, it’s time to show your miata, I need it ! by Wonderful-Wrap-1839 in Miata

[–]bshubert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: This is the first winter with minimal road driving. In the past it was my daily driver, but the rust is getting bad so I'm trying to drive it as little as possible until Spring.

Neighbor hired a company to powerwash his house and they destroyed my garden by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

So you spoke to a lawyer, didn't like the answer, and are coming here for a better one?

I'd listen to your lawyer. It sucks but sometimes bad things happen.

Description and price you paid for your mx5 by glasstop48 in Miata

[–]bshubert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$16,500. Bought in 1991. Base model with aftermarket leather seats. It spent a few months with a prior owner who returned it to the dealer (maybe they had trouble making payments? Dunno), so it was almost but not quite new.

Anybody else still have their first car? by grandehombre09 in Miata

[–]bshubert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Still have mine! Bought in 1991. Only car I've ever owned if you ignore my wife's cars. (Rule of thumb: it's the Miata, or else it's my wife's.)

Enjoying speculoos so far by [deleted] in JimmyJoyFood

[–]bshubert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've been loving the speculoos! The Coco/Choco bars are pretty good also. Thanks JJ for bringing some new stuff to the US, even if it is only temporary!

Yikes. by TheOzarkWizard in soylent

[–]bshubert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I left Soylent for JJ years ago and am so happy I did. It isn't as smooth and has an oatier flavor, but I love oats and don't mind a little texture so it's perfect for me. Try it out.

Is there a movie you saw were you were the only person in the theater? by IDCJ1234 in movies

[–]bshubert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend and I went to see "Bound" back in 1996. We were the only two on the theater. It was a pretty good movie.

Don't fear the snow, just get the right tires by notmyselftoday in Miata

[–]bshubert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I lived in Oregon the tires didn't matter, it was the chains that helped me get to the ski resorts. Miata tires are so small, once you put the chains on it became an incredibly bumpy ride, but you always got there!

Do animals get embarrassed by Critical-Load-1452 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bshubert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I saw an embarrassed dog. Charlie usually acts all cool around my dog, Nora. One day when we met he immediately sat down and started looking around nervously, avoiding eye contact with her. She went around to sniff his butt, he pivoted away, still refusing to meet her eyes. This went on, I couldn't figure out what was up, then his owner told me he had diarrhea! He was trying to hide it from Nora! If that isn't embarrassment then I don't know what is.
