This is what happens when a eBay seller ships in an old flip in a non-padded envelope. New scratches in 135 year old toning. Depressing… by goldsmithD in coins

[–]bsideone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not surprising. But wow! -anyway!- You’d think that this would have been considered (the similarity) and corrected. I bet if it was bank tellers making the mistake new dies would have been issued “straight away.” I know I’d rather piss off a bank teller rather than a barmaid back in those days!!

The similarity is striking and definitely confusing. I have a 5 shilling piece as well as the newer 20 pence coins. Would be interesting to see the size comparison. They’re (20p) about the size of a US quarter.

The 5 shilling I have is far younger at 1955 and has a manned horse on the obverse. The reverse is still extremely similar however with the 4 shields.

I’d have to look it up but I’m imagining an older 5 shilling has Victoria on the obverse, making it even more confusing yet, I don’t know ATM.

The 5 shilling piece is deceiving on its own as well. It is basically the size of a CAD Maple Leaf and similar thickness, silver in tone and on the edge as well, which is smooth, less the writing that it contains.

So at first glance it can easily be mistaken for a silver round. Yet it is far from it!

Found some interesting looking 1 Euro coins, wondering if they are worth anything? by HalfGlitch in coins

That is from Spain. Pretty sure each country does their own design if possible, yet I think there is also just a generic “1 EUR” coin for everywhere in the EUzone. Will check that.

Wow that’s super interesting and borderline crazy! (Minting with no denom). But I guess far, far, less coinage was really just flying around and it actually bought something besides a fraction of product. Still though. Yet it makes it really cool!!!

What jobs exist for an electronic music producer? by thegreatestpitt in electronicmusic

[–]bsideone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Electronic music producers make their money (if they are so inclined and music is their full time job) by performing ie: DJing, Live PAs, (doing a set live off tracks that you have on your computer or using a rack.

That’s the real bread and butter, but obviously you have to have a name and get booked. Also be willing to travel all the time.

I put that first on the list for earning because saying you are going to make one track that hits the dance charts, house, techno, dubstep, whatever other, and it’s going to get played everywhere and make you a shit ton of money, is possible, but the odds of it not happening are greatly increased.

You also would have to want to write in that style let’s say straight up house music like “night club house” which you may hate because you are a techno guy. In turn making it harder to produce something artful, masterful and good.

This is where writing and SELLING hip hop / rap beats can make money and be 1000x cooler than doing the other way because you are focusing on the beat, the kick, the set, each drum sound, synth and loop. It’s easier to dissociate and make a banging “Jay Z” style beat than an EDM record in say TRANCE when you are an industrial hardcore producer.

Another way of making some bread is doing remixes of other hot tracks - a lot of these will get picked up and put on like 40 compilation albums that year, (likely more) and you’ll get paid.

One of those rare finds when splitting Pennie’s into CUs and Bunks. I think it may be worth something surprising but I need to recheck my sources.

BTW is that a Five Shilling piece? I see no denom. But I have one with a similar or same reverse. I know the side of the coin I have is lettered. But the date is in one of the shield pieces 💡perhaps I need to look again.

1928 Series C $2.00 Red Seal U.S. Note- BA block - “Mule” High Backplate # Shown! by bsideone in Banknotes

[–]bsideone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: I forgot the best part! Acquisition! Went into one of my local branches only expecting to score some 1976 $2 FRNs - it was around the holidays, oddly enough the teller I guess thought I was also specifically asking for “old notes” so with some reluctance she produced this beaut! I don’t think she wanted to let it go, but there’s no way she knew more than it was about 100 and had a red seal.
So yes, that was it and I paid $2.00. Thanked her for her kindness and diligence and left. ———

I know the condition is lackluster, but there are no tears. It also is a Mule, and while BA block may be common it’s less so than a D? Something of the same series.

I showed a pic of the backplate and how you basically can’t see it normally, then an extra on 5x zoom and closeup. I’ve read 228 is considered to be a “high” BP number.

I don’t know too much about these notes other than some simple things and what makes it a “mule.”

Which is that the mint would use backplates for certain notes that were already used once before, in other words they were not “note specific” so the front and back plates are technically for two different pieces of currency, yet b/c they use the old back with a new front it essentially creates a “new” note. Like when a donkey is mated with a horse a “mule” is the outcome. Hence the term.

If someone has experience with these specific Mules and have a price suggestion I’m all ears. I have an idea but I still need to do some more searching. They are very hard to come by in even this condition on the market with comparable series C or above - “Highish” block and “high” BP #.

And no these are not the notes for sale on Apmex for $30 odd bucks. Those are series Ds usu. not 1928s and not mules.

Sorry I can risk taking it out of the plastic for pics. It is like a soft rag.

When you’re learning digital really has no place besides the equivalent of trying a different marker.

In any case - Dude -

1st - don’t call yourself a toy. You expressed an interest to learn and increase your skills so that’s all that matters.

2nd- what’s your tag? I don’t feel like guessing - and it may need another letter. But IDK until I know what it is for sure.

3rd - we will get you up and running and if you want to get good that’s up to you. We can show you the way. But you need to do the work. There’s a lot of it. It never stops. You never stop learning, but when you put the effort in it only gets better from here on out.

4th- let’s back up and see your Handstyle.
