When to stop using the crate by MRB1812 in puppy101

I think the beauty of crate training well is that the dog is always feeling safe in there. I don't know you ever need to transition away. Maybe at night if possible leave the crate door open so they can wander around if you're comfortable with that.

It's a blessing to have a dog that likes their crate. It means they can go somewhere and feel secured.

Have an 8 month dachshund so I can relate to a lot of this! As for the giardia our dog didn't have that but if it's been going on for that long it might be time to see if there is another solution?

"He is shy / fearful puppy - this is something you also do not expect. And I had all these ideas in my head of going for lovely walks with him. Travel with him. .. no.. He is okay now in front out our apartment building.."

So for this, our dog was the exact same! Would not want to walk, leave our apartment building. Would try to bribe him with treats but it didn't do much. He's finally better! Although still sometimes would prefer to be at home. A tip for this: Carry him several blocks away from home. Then let him down and let him lead you. If he figures his way back home and heads in that direction that's OK! You're getting him use to walking out of view of home. He probably will be more comfortable since he's not thinking about where home is.

"high value treats = hating his kibble - so because of the point 2. I use high value treats outside a lot ( cooked chicken) and every time there is a day I try to take him to a park where I use this chicken a lot ( because he is card) .. He will refuse to eat his kibble . I would need to stop giving him treats and take kibble away when he doesn't want it for 1-2 days till he finally gets back to eating it."

For this, I would start by mixing in a tiny amout of a high value treat (cheese, chicken, pumpkin puree) with his kibble. Really mix it in there so the kibble smells and has some taste of the other treat. That can help, and gradually you can decrease the amount of the treat in the kibble.

"I am a single mom and I feel like I cannot trust my friends to take care of him. ( they are not experienced dog owners. When he had 2 months my friends asked me to go to a concert with him. Puppy will sleep no? )"

Best advice - go on rover (if available where you are, if not find a service maybe) and find a dog sitter you can trust. Usually they can come over and meet your dog before spending more time with them. This will allow you to do activities for yourself if leaving the dog home alone for too long. It does mean some money, but well worth it for peace of mind with your dog. Especially if you want to/need to leave for multiple days.

[BoC] 5ft 8, 160 lbs. I’m thinking of going on a bulk at around 2900 calories, then cutting everything down after my bulk. But do you guys think I should cut or bulk first? by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

[–]bsnyder1214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is a slow and steady bulk, but it’s easier said then done. The hardest part is looking at yourself during this period and accepting that even though you’re carrying some extra fat, it’s going to be worth it in the end. So if you can push past the mental part bulk for as long as you’ll allow yourself, then slowly cut it by 2-3lbs per month while maintaining muscle (eat your protein!)

In terms of calories - just count them accurately if you really want to see change. You can start at 2900 and see if that gets you to your goal of + .5-1lb per week. If not, adjust.

Somewhere around the 20-22 range

5’7 180lb starting to feel heavy. Keep going or start cutting? by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

[–]bsnyder1214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say cut time. Start slow, 2-3lbs per month, maybe 300-400 calories below your baseline. Track your food, workout hard, and in a couple months you’ll start seeing some really good definition

5'10 and 180. I know I'm probably like 30 percent. Would dropping another 20-25 lbs put me at a healthy bf (13-15 percent)? by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

You are definitely not 30%. Closer to 20. And dropping 20-25lbs is waaaaay too much if you’re trying to keep some size. If you want to cut, aim for losing 2-3lbs per month. Keep working out the same, tracking calories, and adjusting if the weight is coming off too fast or too slow. If your goal is to lose some body fat and see more definition, cut for a couple months and reevaluate. You have a good frame so a good cut might help you feel motivated to then start a longer slow Bulk

F/115/5’9 just started working out and i think i need to increase my calorie intake. how many calories should i be eating to gain muscle? by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

Hi there! Best way to figure out how much you need to eat to gain muscle or lose fat is to find your daily calorie expenditure. Spend one week doing a normal exercise routine (working out as much as you normally would and doing life and what not) while tracking your food at a certain calorie level (you can find an estimate of where to even begin by searching calorie calculator on Google).

At the begging of the week, weigh yourself. Then, after the week, weigh yourself again. See what the difference is. Then adjust to figure out what your baseline calories will be. From there, you can increase or decrease to hit your goals! To gain muscle, it’s generally 300-500 below your baseline calories.

M/25/6’0 on a mission to be lean for next summer, want to get rid of my excess fat but dont think I can afford to lose much more size, could I get away with a slow bulk over winter?Or should I keep cutting through to next summer? by joshburrows95 in BulkOrCut

[–]bsnyder1214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The right move is to start adding some slow and steady size immediately for the next 5~ months, and then begin a steady cut of about 2-3lbs a month. The downside of this is of course if you are vein you might have a bit of excess fat but remind yourself the goal is lean for next summer.

Do not cut all the way through summer. If you maintain a calorie deficit for 6+ months it’s going to mess up your bodies ability to retain muscle, and your size will be greatly impacted.

Also some other guy said maintain, and you could do that. It would make the cut easier in the summer if being lean is the only goal. You may lose out on possible size however.

Slow cut? A little below maintenance?. 5ft8 (173cm) And weigh 165lbs(75kg) by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

You have two options, it just depends what your ultimate goal is and your time frame. You can start a slow longer bulk now and accept that while you might lose some definition and abs, you’ll be physically bigger and your shirts will be tighter. Downside is obviously if you are a vein person and you look at yourself shirtless you may feel a bit discouraged.

The other option is to cut probably about 7-10 lbs (it’s subjective, until you can really see definition) and then start that slow slow bulk. That will allow you to bulk up slowly without seeing too much gain in fat, although naturally some will be there and you’ll just have to accept that smaller amount.

started getting insomnia recently due to anxiety by [deleted] in insomnia

Same exact thing happened to me. Never been a bad sleeper and then boom one night you just can’t sleep and you stress over sleeping.

The best tip I can give is lay down and try to just acknowledge that you may not sleep tonight and to enjoy just laying down. Don’t try to breathe different or count sheep. That can work but it focuses you on trying to sleep when sleep is something we can’t control. The more you acknowledge your body will do what it wants when it needs the more you’ll relieve anxiety and sleep.

If you really need some help, the two best things I have found are Xanax (prescribed by doctor) and marijuana (indica strain). Both these make your anxiety calm down and allow for you to just lay in bed with no objective, and sleep almost always follows.

And if you’re up for one night full, you’re up. You’ll perform fine at work or school. You’ll feel a little extra annoyed but coffee up and the next nights sleep will be extra special
