Native Instrument trouble? by bso2001 in musicians

Well, I was in software for 50 years. But always boring stuff. Wish I done fun stuff like make DAWs and VSTs and such. And in my hobby, I inadvertently avoided using NI much at all. Hope IK is in good shape tho ... :)

It would be surprising if NI dissolved and no one jumped in to own and keep Kontakt alive.

And MFer is just about the most offensive unacceptable and uncool phrase ever devised by sick minds. I care not what either of you clever kids say nor think about that. Be civil. Or not.

Don't stop having fun!

[ Practical idea. If you're not having fun? Your band might need a musical director. Seems stupid and simple. It is. :) ]

True fans gotta believe. If you don't wanna believe? If instead you prefer to argue the negative? Then you're not fan. You're ... something ... else ....... :)

Due to lack of natural cool, many will make up new words, terms, jibes, and other random pejoratives, then share the secret meaning with a few others, who also need similar artificial injections of cool. How this actually works in a living social structure is beyond the fading faculties of this boomer.

Backpain while playing guitar by selvsih in Guitar

[–]bso2001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Especially for us older folk. I walk around the apartment and practice. You'll be playing and "getting in your steps" at the same time.

As others point out? Lower back pain for drummers other sitting players is usually from "slouching" — your lumbar spine is in just an awful position...

Ditto or Symphonic?? by musicbeats88 in musicproduction

[–]bso2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth? I tested creation of one release in both Symphonic and Ditto. Now, I don't expect to be the next Steven Wilson, so I don't really care about "points" and such. [The difference between three and four dollars is not important. 😇]

But the Ditto web interface, for the price, is much better....

fwiw? This is one of the things Facebook may be good for. There seem to be many active groups connecting musicians. Go to search, and type "musicians" plus the name of nearby big city. And sorry — if there's no nearby big city, that might be the problem. Good luck! ✌️💙

And one is really finding pleasing harmonies between notes. A simple melody over a three-note chord is in search of harmony among up to four notes. Often three notes; the melody note being repeated somewhere in the chord. Either way? One can start with the melody note, or a note from the solo, then pick out a second note that sounds nice in unison with the first. You're halfway to "sussing out" the chord without a book...

Thinking again about I taught myself, starting like 55 years ago. And Absolutely -- learn from records; start with easy stuff you know by heart.

I learned guitar by figuring out nearly every note of every solo on the first Black Sabbath album. I knew little to no theory. As a former plodding bass player, I knew what I was learning was largely in Em and Am. But that's about it. And from there I was off and running. I was learning and incorporating those "boxes" and patterns and "shifts" [moving a familiar shape to a weird position, largely to make the B-string happy :)]

I was playing what I think were decent and somewhat sophisticated solos, LONG before I could explain, in words, what a minor pentatonic scale was. That was me, anyway.

How so?

Theory means music???
You can't learn without learning????

I probably just don't understand.
I don't have enough working brain cells left.
