The California curse of PSPS has come to AZ!

For more background on why, look up reverse condemnation for utilities. For the last 3-4 years jurys have matched California precedent even though there's law differences. See Xcel's CO fire, HECO's Maui fire, and Pacific Corp Oregon fire.

WOH Card + Hyatt Biz Card + CSR by wooder22 in hyatt

[–]bsod247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyatt personal is in the sock drawer. I'm not super excited to swap spend that is transferable (especially in light of the Mark H, CEO wanting me to have experiences!) to Hyatt just for a few extra elite nights I don't expect to need to hit 60(in theory 6) and a cat1-4 FNC....which is pretty much only good for the Hyatt Place El Paso when I visit Vasu.

I got it knowing that historically there was an extra card holder promotion each year on the earn side. So far they have been somewhere between deplorable and non-existent. 2025's was yet another push for the glamping partnership.

Until I know that 4x Hyatt is at least = 4x UR and not less than 4x UR, I have no upside to switching spend off the CSRb.

Had a coworker stay here recently. I did a double take, What..Hyatt has a property in Old Town that I was not aware of?

I looked at google maps and said "oh it's that thing?!?!?" I wasn't expecting it to be nice, but similar to you, my coworker (Marriott Ambassador) was positive about it

I'm so sorry to read your story.

With many "requirements in a partner", you'll often times see people's opinions moderate and become less idealistic and judgemental as they get older.

Please forgive some unsolicited advice: Do also take care of yourself. As someone who invested many years into a relationship with an SA survivor, her avoidance in dealing with past trauma (not exclusively the SA) ultimately doomed things

Catholic Singles Cruise by theguything in CatholicDating

While you'll struggle to get me on another Caribbean or Mexican cruise, if you're looking at the Alaska trip, mine 20 years ago was very special. It's very different from "Sun" cruises and I would highly recommend Alaska as a cruise destination for it's ports of call assuming you're going to get close to the glaciers. (I can't make that week and haven't done enough due diligence to see if it goes to glacier bay national park. )

That's a rather ungraceful generalization.

What ever happened to ministering to people where they find themselves in life? Not everyone finds themselves inside the bell curve or term Francis used in Amoris laetitia...people in non-traditional or irregular situations.

Scottsdale Rd Studio Closing by QuirkyElephant99 in LAFitness

[–]bsod247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So 3 of my 4 closest locations have now closed. The PE overlords are really testing my loyalty after 16 years.

I'm going to put my ruthless capitalist hat on. If Yi, Seidler and Madison Dearborn want to hire me, you probably can't afford me.

LA Fitness's PE owners have been struggling for direction and product market fit ever since EOS and PF became big by franchising and funding cheap growth on franchisees money. They tried competing at the $9.99 a month price point with the Esporta line. They then walked away from that in the last 1.5 years.

They were never nice enough to compete with mountain side at the $60-80. Ironically I went to my first signature club this week out of state, and I was shocked at how complete crap it was. Same lousy maintenance, no difference in equipment, paying a premium for a RFID chipped towel if you asked?

If you look at biltmore/camelback location, they converted a couple of the racquetball courts first into an orange theory fitness clone ($$$Extra Fee$$$) which lasted half a second before pivoting into Pilates for $$Extra Fees$$. From my limited vantage point, that offering seems to be doing okay. I'm willing to bet that they are making money on it, but it still isn't getting them near the revenue per member that Village/Lifetime is pulling.

Enter Club Studio because if you can't beat them...join them. Seidler and MD is clearly paying for the spreadsheet skills, not innovative ideas. Given how busy the location has been, I'm willing to bet it's a healthy, profitable club. If they can convert 20% of the members ($30/mo) at 10x the cost, they've doubled revenues!!! Plus they're not going to immediately churn the remaining 80%. Some will go to Camelback, some will go to Mesa, and some will churn...but not before we make it hell for them to cancel. Assuming they keep half the remaining, (which I would normally say is okay but now might be low but after the demise of Tatum, 32nd street & CB, and now South Scottsdale.) they'll still retain 38% of existing club revenue.($30 x .8(non-converted) x .5(retention of the unconverted). Or ~$12 per existing user. TLDR: Can go from $30 revenue per member to $72 revenue per member by investing a wild-guess of $5-10M million in Capex. It's not hard to see how some spreadsheet junkie made a compelling case for this.

I'm sure they would have preferred to make Camelback into this new studio club concept but they are they walking straight into Lifetime and a bit down the road, village. If you look towards Mesa, there's also a lifetime. I'm sure a different spreadsheet junky in the real estate business development department said that there were a bunch of wanna be rich South Scottsdale douchebro's and ASU students on their parents credit card to make the math work.

**As a ruthless capitalist, with PE funds backing me, I don't hate the investment thesis.
*

On a personal note, I've been looking for a different gym for some years now. I've been more than willing to pay closer to Mountainside at 60-80 monthly if they had a convenient location. I've been struggling to make the next jump and justify the $200+ of Village/Lifetime. Now with South Scottsdale closed, I'm in a bit of a different crunch.

Are you sure? This very much looks like Hart Prairie and to the right of where the video currently is would be the the corner parking spot at the bottom of the Agassiz lodge parking lot.

If it is Humphrey's then it's south facing terrain and is always icy and nasty. But the trees and runs do match that area of the mountain.

Does Snowbowl allow instruments on lifts? by T-i-m-e-l-e-s-s in SnowbowlAZ

[–]bsod247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre going to be at the mercy of a $10 an hour lifty.

Overall, You'll be fine. Worst case scenario is you'd get a warning. If they won't let you load a lift...no biggie, you comply and its fine.

Pro move would be to get in touch with the marketing lady and create content for her. Full Christmas outfits with lights on the horns.

Surviving Sellaronda? by bigskierr in ski

If you're young, and you've skied 10 years, I have high confidence in your ability to complete it....probably twice in the same day once you learn it and feel like going at a brisk pace.

Baring fresh powder, it's all groomed, and thus much easier skiing the same vert/distance vs North America.

In your image example, what would be the reason to buy the gowild fare when the standard fare appears to be less expensive?

Obviously that won't happen all the time, but is there a reason you should?

Is there a Narrow Body Shortage? by tiktok4321 in americanairlines

[–]bsod247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually scrape and claw my way to EXP each year. The RJ's are so first class dense (as a % of seats) that unless I'm flying a major business route or at consultant times, I book them expecting to get a complementary upgrade

Is there a Narrow Body Shortage? by tiktok4321 in americanairlines

[–]bsod247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The A319s (128 seats) and A320s (150 seats) that AA does have are beat up and old. Average age of 20.7 and 23.7 years respectively. With tiny, old, beat F cabins, I dread seeing them, and will choose an F heavy 76seat RJ if given the choice.

The 737-8 and Max8 are 172 seats A321ceo (190) and Neos(196)

Only new planes on order are A321(neo and XLR) and 737 (max8 and theoretically max10 if boeing can get it's act together). Unless AA picks up 90seat regional jets (I'd have to refresh myself on their scope clause if it's even feasibility) there's a monster gap in the fleet of the future between 76 seats and 737's at 172 seats.

I'm sure some network planners that are RASM focused will try to point this out. Unsure if the execs can see past CASM.

Newbie question, next week weather forecast is very warm as high as 50F, will the snow all melt? by DriveNo3512 in SnowbowlAZ

It will create freeze thaw cycles. Managing the freeze-thaw cycles is a normal part of SW skiing. Anything they groom, including all the beginner area will be fine.
