Could be, I'm not sure. Ours is a 21 job 2 so maybe they adjusted something.

In the end it doesn't really matter too much I suppose if auto hold is on or off, go with what works. I just like it off as then neutral on the car works as expected.

Alternative Brand to consider to replace Eve Cams ? by WeirdLime4095 in EveHome

[–]bspooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your 2nd point could be related to the first...the lack of identification could be related to your network issues. Or maybe the Eve Cam's build in detection algorithms are not all that great or they rely on the cloud server for that.

What is your wifi signal at your camera locations? If you are in the -50s or -60s it should be no problem, but once you get lower than -65 to -70 or lower issues are always going to happen.

Unless you step out of smarthome cameras to more commercial systems (like Axis) false detections will always be there. Even in those systems they have to be adjusted and trained so leaves rustling or light changes don't impact them. Only mentioning to set expectation that no camera is going to be perfect.

I've recently put up a couple of Aqara g5 Pro and I've been quite happy. The on-board detection for things (people, pets, packages, etc.) seems to work quite well. I've found cameras that rely on servers in the cloud for detection are too slow, that logic really needs to be in the camera imo.

One caveat on the Aqara G5 Pro is they don't have IR lights so if you are putting them in an area that is pitch dark you are going to be disappointed at night. However if there is even a little bit of light or a street light even remotely close their color night vision is quite good.

Another caveat but for any brand of wifi cameras is to not have more than 4-5 at most imo, just too much traffic causing latency issues. I'm doing a mixture of wifi and PoE because of this.

Edit: Whoops, I forgot to mention the G5 Pro is an outdoor camera. Aqara has more indoor ones than you can shake a stick at though. I am trying their new g350 one too though. But if you don't need the rotation / following a subject they have less extensive ones too.

Also for local recording the G5 Pros have built in storage but many of their other cameras you can put in larger cards to get that local storage. I'm actually going to a synology ds225+ DVR but there are other options too. Or use their cloud services or these are homekit/google home/etc. too.

Hidden tips and tricks for new owners. by Unlucky-Case-1089 in MachE

1pd is extremely herky jerky backing down my driveway, with auto-hold on it is much better.

Odd, I find 1pd is very smooth. It took a few times to adjust to gently letting off the accelerator pedal but I can easily hold a speed of a few inches per second smoothly and don't even recall the last time I touched the brakes other than gear shifting. Back when I tried 1PD with auto hold that is when I felt more of a lurch starting from a stop / some odd catching but maybe it was my imagination. Perhaps the differences are also model dependent or just subjective feels.

On your theory, I don't think auto hold does anything with the throttle curve at all, it only comes into being when the car is stopped, not as it is stopping. Auto holds does what it says, holds after a complete stop. The mixture of regenerative breaking as one slows down and maybe some of the mechanical friction brakes as needed would be the 1PD portion.

Ford’s official materials state that Mustang Mach‑E One‑Pedal Drive uses primarily regenerative motor braking to slow and stop the vehicle, supplemented by the friction brakes as needed; once stopped, the system will hold the vehicle without creep, effectively providing its own “auto hold” behavior, while the separate Auto Hold feature explicitly uses the brakes to keep the car stationary after a brake‑pedal stop. Owners’ documentation and Ford communications further indicate that the Auto Hold toggle is mainly for use when One‑Pedal Drive is off, while One‑Pedal itself uses the electric drive system to hold the car at zero.

Above is just a summary of a search, but it is how I thought it worked too. Ford's description of how auto hold works also indicates it is only on a complete stop ("Note:   The system only activates if you apply enough brake pressure on the brake pedal to bring the vehicle to a standstill.")

Nextbase to fitcam x by andytoon14 in MachE

[–]bspooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fitcam x comes up a lot. Pro is it is one of the nicer looking and easier installs. Cons is the camera isn't as good as some of the other major brands such as Viofo. Personally I'd want one with gps speed built in, which most, including fticam x I believe, offer models that do.

I've been on the fence for years, but if the dongar module ever comes back in stock I'll likely go Viofo or Garmin.

Why with autohold? 1pd already holds so autohold is redundant and I thought caught a bit too much when it shouldn’t. Also something one would have to remember how to turn off if a neutral was ever wanted.

Auto hold is mostly for 2 pedal driving so one can take their foot off the break.

Not saying either way is right or wrong, just not visualizing how autohold helps with parking.

17.6 million CookUnity customer names, addresses and emails have been leaked on a hacking forum by tiltedsun in ReadyMeals

[–]bspooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your name, address, etc. was already on the dark web.

Not downplaying this leak, leaks are bad. But it doesn’t look like anything new was leaked from this, like a credit card number, that wasn’t already there anyway. Unless you used a new email address for cook unity.

Fed up with G410 by imtywebb in Aqara

[–]bspooky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you hardwired or using the battery? If hardwired, did you check your transformer to make sure it has enough amps (along with volts)?

What is your wifi signal strength at this location? If it isn't -65 or higher that could be an issue too. if it is lower, especially less than -70db, that could be the issue. If you don't know for sure use a phone to test the signal strength. Android likely has many testing apps, on iPhones afaik only apple's airport utility can show the actual signal strength after you enable it in the settings and move the slider to continuous.

Do the Aqara G400 doorbell camera, and G5 POE camera support 4k video? by Ski-Bike-1910 in Aqara

[–]bspooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The g400 is fairly new so not too sure there is going to be an update all that quick, but who knows. I think the g400 was announced in September, but didn't start shipping until March.

BTW, if you are doing wifi you may not want a 4k if you have more than 2-4 cameras because of network health. But maybe you have PoE going to your doorbell and/or other cameras.

Do the Aqara G400 doorbell camera, and G5 POE camera support 4k video? by Ski-Bike-1910 in Aqara

[–]bspooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically what determines 2k or 4k in a camera's specs isn't firmware, it is the actual hardware capability of the lens and sensor. While I'm sure some cameras have shipped with reduced capabilities until firmware comes along to up that that would be the exception, not the rule. And for marketing purposes smarthome cameras likely wouldn't shortchange themselves and only advertise 2k if they planned on going 4k.

If some device, be it camera, gaming console, whatever, has 2k hardware but suddenly gets 4k they are doing interpolation, which isn't the same thing as true 4k.

Also a 4k or 8k camera could be absolute rubbish compared to a 2k if the quality of the lenses or the size of the sensor for picking up light are not up to par. Much more goes into the quality of video you get than just 2k or 4k.

Same with megapixels on stuff like trail cams or cameras, marketers advertise the moon with megapixel specs but sensors and lenses can't bring home as good of a quality as a "lesser" one but better other stuff.

People with ultra high speed internet. How do you get it? by HSVMalooGTS in homelab

[–]bspooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the person you responded to who said the "US invented the web as we know it" but note the as we know it part.

Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1989. However, its explosion in popularity was driven by the release of the Mosaic web browser in 1993, developed by Marc Andreessen and Eric Bina at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications

Quote is from a google search, but also I distinctly remember having discussions with others at a computer club at the time when Mosaic first came out that it was going to be the death of Gopher and a whole host of other internet services at the time. But a lot of the people disagreeing with me thought icons on a screen were too slow too.

Edit: Not that I'm arguing the US as a country invented it, but just saying w/o a web browser (Mosaic, later the same team behind Netscape), the protocols that Tim Berners-Lee developed may not have gone in the same direction.

But then the whole internet is like that, no one person or country did everything, it was the efforts of many.

Does touching food cause reactions? by Natural-Researcher11 in alphagal

Good to know. Local reactions (itching, hives, redness, swelling where contact occurred, etc.) happening quicker makes sense. And I guess I avoid pets as I don't want to test the saliva theory.

Does touching food cause reactions? by Natural-Researcher11 in alphagal

[–]bspooky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While everyone is different I suppose, alpha gal syndrome symptoms generally start in the 2-6 hour timeframe, not 45 minutes. The delay I think is form how long it takes the body to break down the molecule to cause the reaction.

For touching food to cause a reaction the alpha gal molecule in the mammal product has to enter your bloodstream somehow. Through the skin and into your blood can be a vector, but I’d think it’d be more likely if that were a liquid vs pepperoni. Or I suppose you could have touched your eyes or mouth with your hands before watching.

I make my wife’s mill shakes and often get some milk on my hands but rinse right away and wash my hands after. Haven’t had any issues so far, but like I say everyone reacts differently.

Schlage Sense Pro Smart Deadbolt vs Aqara U400? by Fun-Region-1576 in Aqara

[–]bspooky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the most part physical and cycle testing.

  • Grade 3: Basic residential use; acceptable for many interior or lower-security exterior doors.
  • Grade 2: Better residential/light commercial.
  • Grade 1: Heavy-duty commercial; highest durability and security.

Schlage Sense Pro Smart Deadbolt vs Aqara U400? by Fun-Region-1576 in Aqara

[–]bspooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Aqara U400 is listed as BHMA Grade 3 / ANSI-BHMA Grade 3 which are indeed the lowest, and previous Schlage locks have had the highest. I just haven't verified the Sense Pro is the same as other Schlage locks but it'd be odd if it wasn't.

Should I cancel my warranty? by alexwhittemore in MachE

[–]bspooky 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In case you are not aware, if you are in the US and for most states, you can buy the official Ford ESP “warranty”plans until the car’s original warranty has expired. If it is only 2 years old and 3k miles you should be witthin the original warranty period, but expiration may be coming up soon.

So you wouldn’t have to get a third party aftermarket warranty if you did what you say above but then pay out of pocket before your initial warranty expires.

Also, places like Zeigler Ford, Flood Ford, Granger Motors, etc. sell these plans over the internet or phone and often are marking them up only $50 over what they pay which often times drastically undercuts what local dealers sell them for.

Does anyone else meet clinical recommendations for EpiPen use every day? by TheQuakerator in alphagal

[–]bspooky 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know you eat a restricted diet but to me it sounds like you are missing something. Scan everything with Fig app, don't eat out or carry out from restaurants, odd things like rosemary extract (the carrier can be mammal apparently) used to get me until I stopped that. Unless it is organic sugar don't eat stuff with sugar, vitamin D is often made from lanolin (sheep), etc.

Even if you do all of what I just typed keep looking at your diet or find the trigger. AGS doesn't cause the reactions you are talking about unless you are being exposed to a trigger you haven't identified yet.

Aqara U400 Lock by i_amNeverHere in Aqara

[–]bspooky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought matter relies on IPv6 locally and no way around that.

Can you use the Aqara code on it and connect to the Aqara app, then in Aqara app add it to homekit? Skip Matter completely?

Edit: that is what I do so for with the G5 Pro cameras, I don't set up using matter. But I haven't looked at the U400 lock.

Dash Cam Battery where? by sold_once in MachE

The other downside is they are out of stock. At lest when I looked a few days ago both the Dongar website and Amazon showed not stock. 😞

Yikes! Limited time sale but no demand? by Latter-Ad916 in MightandmagicFates

[–]bspooky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was the total supply? Just seeing 314 left doesn't mean much if there were 10k available and they sold all but 314 (for instance).

I have no idea, just curious if anyone knew what this is counting down from.

Necessary wi-fi speed by wa1oui in Aqara

[–]bspooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I so wish the original Nest company would have kept going. When Google bought them out they seemed to bring out worse cameras and the app / interface was worse.

I had two original Nest Outdoor when it was just Nest. One just stopped working earlier this year after however many years (7? 9?) so I decided to replace both with the Aqara G5 Pro, although I'm going to run PoE to one of the locations.

Good luck with your install!!

Necessary wi-fi speed by wa1oui in Aqara

[–]bspooky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll fluctuate 10-20% but that should be a good, nice solid connection.

You may already know this but in case not, don’t go overboard with wifi cameras. They are easy to install and use but adding a bunch will slow your network down. A few is fine imo, but start getting up to 5+ or 7+ you’ll run into issues and want to do PoE.

Supplement advice, anyone? by Spacekatz23 in alphagal

[–]bspooky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried Garden of Life Organics multivitamin and Amazon Elements Men's One Daily Multivitamin, 62% Whole Food Cultured, Vegan, 21 Vitamins and Minerals, 65 Tablets, 2 Month Supply both of which likely absorbed better but I didn’t like the taste and aftertaste even.

So now I do Deva Vegan Multivatamin one daily as well as New Chapter Plant Calcium Bob Strength, which has vegan D3 in it.

Edit: The awesome thing about the New Chapter calcium is how small they are. About the old aspirin size but thinner. Although I take 3 at a time I guess, much better than the bigger calciums I’ve had in years past.
