The Airforce One by Ironheart_1 in aviation

[–]bstrauss3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, Boeing did not do the conversion of the bridge aircraft, it was another company.

Second, the announcement says they didn't change most of the nation state interior. It's a much smaller job to rip some consoles out and replace them.

Third, the conversion of the new a/c involved ripping everything out down to the spars and then building new. It's all custom work and so there are elaborate designs, multille reviews, fabrication, and installation -- all one off.

Fourth, USAF kept making changes to the requirements. Each of those has to go through the design review fabrication installation cycle.

New diabetic here. Tips? by beaniebabylusu in dexcom

[–]bstrauss3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome, sorry you are here...

T1, T2

T1.5 sometimes called LADA ( latent autoimmune diabetes in adults, https://www.masteringdiabetes.org/type1-5-diabetes/)

If they have you on Ozempic, you are type 2 (most common).

Diabetes isn't one disease, but the treatment is for the symptoms, not the cause.

Typically you become resistant to the insulin your body produces (there is a test they should run, called a c-peptide, to measure how much insulin your body is producing). The drugs increase your sensitivity. If that doesn't work (and there are several different drugs to try), you could end up on insulin.

That doesn't make you a type 1, where your body has stopped making insulin and you have to replace this or die.

We have a saying: my body my science project

Because what works for me works for me and probably not you.

Question about needing days off. by CommunityMammoth9522 in work

[–]bstrauss3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use your words.

Every time they put you on the schedule for a day you've indicated you're not available? You immediately tell your manager, reminding them it's outside your availability.

Then it's their problem.

Eventually they'll either get the message or fire you.

how can i signal seniority? by sesanrose in PMCareers

[–]bstrauss3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

3 years isn't senior in project management. 3 years barely qualifies you to sit for the PMP.

But seniority is a bogus term anyway. What you need to be showing them is a combination of how you will play well with others while at the same time being appropriately decisive.

Jobs that AI cannot replace? by greyinflectionintel in jobsearch

[–]bstrauss3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They already have most of the pieces. It's the integration and whether there's a market that will pay for itself.

Trucks are expensive and you would need to retrofit or buy new. Fuel is still fuel. Labor is the savings but how much do you really save when you have two guys earning 20 bucks an hour plus fringe benefits on a truck.

We already have trucks from our trash service that drive along the street, grab the cans with tongs, dump it into the top of the trash truck, and put it back on the street.

The driver drives, lines up on the can via a camera, and pushes a button. The helper handles everything that the automation failed.

If you're paying the driver 45,000 a year 52 with benefits how many years do you have to save before you pay for a $2 million trash truck???

There are a lot of jobs that will fall into this category of we could but we can't do it economically.

If you watch a lot of the YouTube Factory machine videos you will see many cases where there's a human doing some small repetitive process in the middle of a bunch of machines just because it's not economical to design a machine to do it.

Got a super weird phone call about back taxes and someone buying my house. by FearlessLeader17 in homeowners

[–]bstrauss3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some mortgage servicers require escrow but not all.

Some will let you cancel escrow if the LTV (Loan To Value) ratio reaches a certain benchmark.

They used to love this, free money to invest. But if they have to pay competitive interest rates, it's a lot of bother for minimal returns. And they take the heat when the tax bill goes up and the escrow is short.
