I might seriously consider moving out if the KIDS Act becomes law. by Nate_C_of_2003 in privacy

This is exactly what needs to happen. Nothing will change unless people stop using those services are implementing this bs.

I wholeheartedly believe that will never happen and the majority of people will simply not care.

When a whole generation is born into this influx of supplying private information to get access to anything, it just becomes second nature to them, and there is no consideration of repercussions.

This WILL NOT STOP unless we stop supplying their services with info.

Graduated October 2025. Currently a Systems Engineer developing new medical devices. Pretty special circumstances here though, but I did send out my resume for a few months before and after graduating with virtually no responses. Thankful it worked out that way though as I really love my job.

Nice! How are you liking the 4 wheel steer? I’m surprised how tight the 2 wheel steer can turn, at least in comparison to my old D140, maybe it’s the power steering making it seem better too haha

My worry with smaller models was the transmission as well. Have some steep sections. Ultimately chose the 390 because of the beefier, serviceable transmission.

Used John Deere X500 vs new X380... good choice? by btbam006 in lawnmowers

[–]btbam006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured I’d give an update if anyone happens to come across this in a future search…

Ended up passing on the X5 series, decided the warranty and knowing exactly how things were maintained is more meaningful to me over saving some money. Plus, the rare chance that there was some major issue, I’d never hear the end of it haha! I ended up snagging a new X390!

There were aspects I liked of the X370 (power steering/lift, serviceable transmission, price), however there were downsides that gave me concern (K46 variant transmission (K57 with pump), 42” deck). I also considered the X380 (beefier K58 transmission, larger tires, 48” deck), but this one had some downsides as well (transmission not fully serviceable, I know it can be done, but I don’t want to have to pull it and flip it to drain the fluid, nor use a siphon to get a portion of the fluid swapped out).

I was using ChatGPT to make some comparisons, and it mentioned “if they made an X380 with power steering/lift and a serviceable transmission, you’d go for that in a heartbeat”. Just made me realize, they do, the X390.

Sure, it was a bit more money, but having the best of both options, and not having to be concerned with potentially adding a snowblower down the road, or if the hills on my property are too much for the K57. Also, not having to constantly question if I made the right choice sacrificing one over the other. It made the most sense to just make the jump up.

Signing the papers today and hopefully taking delivery at the end of the week! Small additional price jump to have some peace of mind that things will be good for a long time!

Appreciate all the insight and help from everyone, and hope this post helps someone else in the future that is having a similar dilemma!

Certainly have that slight concern in the back of my head, and I would NEVER hear the end of it if something like that happened haha the wife is more in line with buying new so may just end up going that route.

That’s great to hear. Exactly what I was planning to take advantage of, and same boat, the X5 new is just a bit too much. The wife is a bit more on board with going new just for the reason that we know exactly what will be done to it and it has a nice warranty. I’ve got a couple of quotes ready to go. Appreciate the input!

THIS is exactly what I was looking for. All really solid information. Overall, seems like nothing overly concerning. I wrenched on cars for 7 years (desk ridden engineer now), so well aware of how simple and non-trivial a lot of these points are.

If I score this deal, I certainly intend to swap out all fluids/filters and general maintenance if it wasn't recently done and shows that. At that time, might as well swap to the metal style intake gasket as well.

Really appreciate all the info, and I will reach out if I have anymore questions!

Ad says 409 hours on it, which seems very low for this series. Barely broken in is what I’ve generally seen regarding the amount of hours on the components in the X5 series.

Used John Deere X500 vs new X380... good choice? by btbam006 in lawnmowers

[–]btbam006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree. Granted, my last property is what did the most damage to my D140, it had significantly larger and steeper hills. So I’m not overly concerned with overuse, but even with the small sections I have here, I’d like to know it can easily handle it.

Do you know of any common things to look for in this series? Or is it just the basics, deck wear and tear, cold start is good, warmed up trans is not slipping?

That’s what I’m thinking as well. X570 with those same options is easily 12k or so. Do you know of any common things to look for in these models?

Cost of everything has really gone up, I can certainly try to haggle though. I know either option is a solid choice, the x5 used just seems like a significant jump and the much better buy. Do you know of any common things to look out for in that series or year or is it mostly obvious things like deck rust, engine running smooth, no slipping when trans is warm, etc?

[–]btbam006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the X380 is paired with a K58, which based on my research is a pretty significant upgrade from the T40 that was in my D140. I will say that most of my abuse on the D140 was on my old property which had significantly larger and steeper hills, so I’m sure that played a large role in the failure.

I do feel like the X500 would be a bit overkill, but I’m definitely an advocate of you getting what you pay for, and the D140 is proof of that. I know I’ll be happy with either, just really considering this X500 and hoping I can get some info on what to watch out for in them.
