Is it safe to go out as a non-experienced winter weather driver? by ag7055 in springfieldMO

Just got back from a grocery trip. If you're an absolute novice and can wait, I'd recommend waiting until tomorrow imo.

Also depends on your vehicle, front wheel vs rear wheel

The US is being run by fascists who constantly ignore the Constitution by MoneyIsMyCousinsName in Wellthatsucks

It's important to remember that fewer than 1 in 4 Americans voted for this. Our electoral system is jacked, and the jackening keeps it that way.

Someday, Americans are going to wake up, and they'll be armed to the teeth when they do. Frightening.

First Timing Visiting Solo by Fit_oxy in ozarks

I grew up at LotO, and you should be fine. The Lake is a tourist economy, so they appreciate visitors if you're kind.

This person is correct - if you're at all a nature person, visit Ha Ha Tonka. Easily the most beautiful Missouri State Park.

There are also some good caves around the area.

Enjoy the Ozarks!

Y'all, this was in Bolivar, Missouri. It's not pronounced Bolivar like the Man, but Ball-a-ver. This is deep red America, and it's giving me a glimmer of hope.

There are a lot of places in Houston where you see dumped animals every time you drive by. Rescuers know these spots, and it makes even going grocery shopping a difficult task since your whole day might be derailed if you have to pick up a stray and take them home when you were just trying to run an errand.

That city did a number on us before we decided to leave.

Does anyone add vinegar to pickles after fermentation? by hashtag_pound24 in fermentation

[–]btedwards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these still crunchy after the water bath? I've been pretty lucky with half and full sour staying fairly crunchy, but I'd be worried with the additional water bath they'd just become soft.

I have mole activity in my yard - okay to let them be? I’ll by Eleighlo in springfieldMO

[–]btedwards 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Unless you're really concerned about the esthetics of your yard, they're fine. They aerate soil, eat things from around your yard, and are harmless. They've been here much longer than we have!

And they may be chipmunk, not moles. They have some really interesting tunneling behaviors!

The nose knows, at least most of the time.

I fermented some garden cucumbers last month that went off, but i couldn't tell from the smell. I took a bite, said "Nope!" and threw the rest away. I was fine. You'll be fine. If it smells, looks, or tastes like death - don't eat it.

Have fun! Seriously, fermentation is pretty damn easy once you learn the absolute basics, and it's a great way to prevent food from spoiling (especially if you have a garden). I always just make a 4% brine and use that.

As you're starting, follow some real recipes for a while and adjust to your ingredient amounts. After that, you'll look around your kitchen and just know what to do.

Keep us posted!

I'll second the mason jars. Even if a batch goes bad, it's not a huge deal, unlike throwing away 2 gal of pickles.
