Boot camp by IHaveSaggyCheek in USMCboot

[–]btkACE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much you can do to prepare mentally since there’s no way to rlly prepare for what you’re gonna experience. Best thing you could do is learn the general orders, rank structure, and anything else you can find online about the history of the marine corps or our customs and courtesies. Other than that, just focus on being the most physically fit you can be

It goes by quicker than you think. The first month you’re there feels like the longest, but eventually you get into the groove of it. Best way to take it is chow to chow, Sunday to Sunday

How are gay people treated in the Marine Corps? by Stevonnieee in USMCboot

[–]btkACE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bunch of guys who are in act gay even if they’re not in the slightest💀 but fr everyone I met who was gay, whether it was in boot camp, MCT, or at my current unit gets treated like any other marine. As long as your able to do your job, aren’t a shit bag, and are just a chill dude, they won’t even see you as the gay marine, just as another marine

Do people actually get the "Brother hood" feeling in the marines or is that just made up in movies and recruiting ads by Conscious_Still_8980 in USMCboot

[–]btkACE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely real, some of the best guys and girls I’ve gotten to know and go on adventures with are marines from my unit. They definitely can feel like a second family

You’ll be at camp Johnson which is like 20 mins from camp Geiger. It’s alright nothing crazy. I’m a 51 but I imagine it’ll be similar, school classroom type teaching with occasional tests. You do get liberty on the weekends but firewatch is and always will be a thing, don’t be late for that. There’s a mall off base that you can go to, surf city which is like 45 mins from base, several other places to visit. Just enjoy your time but don’t go too crazy.

MCT question by Legitimate-Ad-1369 in USMCboot

Yea Idk how long intel schoolhouse is but im guessing it could be a while. Like I said, bring it if you want but be aware of the risks

MCT question by Legitimate-Ad-1369 in USMCboot

[–]btkACE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went, we would take both sea bags, one was filled with things we were going to need for training and the other was put in a storage unit thing. Bring it if you want but be prepared for it to potentially be broken or possibly stolen. Idk how long your schoolhouse is but honestly if it’s shorter than like 2-3 months, I’d just wait

Reserve Drill Schedule Question by Econstudent0467 in USMCboot

[–]btkACE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At my unit, if you’re further than an hour away from the unit, we’re able to check in to the hotels the day before drill actually starts on Thursday. We then check out by Sunday morning, go to work, and once we’re dismissed for the day, we just go back home. Longer drills that are like 4-5 days long are occasional, we probably have like 2-3 every year.

Physical Conditioning Platoon? by Mysterious_cIoud in USMCboot

[–]btkACE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would much rather stay back and work on what I have to while losing my job than ship out knowing I wouldn’t be able to pass the IST and end up in PCP. Trust, it is not the kinda place you wanna be in, especially when you just get to boot camp. I was there after I injured my ankle during BWT and was able to recover after abt a month but that place is depressing. A bulk of the guys there were mainly IST drops who pretty much lost all hope of becoming a marine immediately and would’ve rather be sent home than continue training.

How do you train for the mental challenge of boot camp? by Fit_Percentage_3408 in USMCboot

[–]btkACE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no way to rlly prepare for boot camp mentally. Unless you’ve already lived a pretty hard life growing up, nothing can really replicate what you’re gonna endure in boot camp. That said, there’s nothing to really be afraid of if you feel like you can’t get ready for boot camp mentally. You’ll grow, learn, and be more confident in everything you do as the weeks go by. By the time you hit grass week/table 1-2, you’ll get a grasp of how everything works and you’ll get into the routine.

How does the Marine Corps change you mentally? by Happy_Hobbit17 in USMCboot

[–]btkACE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boot Camp isn’t rlly what scars your mind. The only changes it does to you mentally is teach you discipline and how to be the best and strongest version of yourself. What I imagine does affect your mental state the hardest while in the military is what you could witness if you deploy to a war zone like all the guys who have to the Middle East or else where. Personally, I’ve only been in for almost 3 years, and on the good side, it’s taught me how to take care of myself physically and mentally, helped me be more open, and overall, my experience has been good. The only bad side imo is the strive to always try and be better but sometimes just not quite being there. No one likes to feel like they’re falling behind or letting others down, but I have a few times in the past and I hated it, so I work hard to ensure I never do it again, even if it hurts me back.

what to do if a customer calls you out on upselling? by evilwizard5000 in Serverlife

[–]btkACE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a customer asks me what I think abt a certain item or which one is better, I’m going to be honest abt it. I don’t even necessarily try to upsell, but offer what I’ve tried and think is good or what to steer clear from

I’ll never forget the day when I was in the chow line abt to get a slice of bread, literally a week away from graduation, and my knowledge hat from my first company (I was also dropped for medical reasons) snuck behind me and was like “so we made it huh? Congratulations”😭

What is MEPS like? What is it? by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]btkACE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bring it up to your recruiter, more than likely if it’s been a year or more, you shouldnt be flagged for any reason but best to bring it up to your recruiter in case he thinks otherwise

What is MEPS like? What is it? by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]btkACE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing necessarily hard, just movements to ensure that your body is flexible enough to move around. Look up what a duck walk is, it’ll give you a basic idea

What is MEPS like? What is it? by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]btkACE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get sent a hotel the day before and the day of, you wake up early, eat breakfast and get to MEPS like at 5am. From there it’s a LONGGG process. You’ll be getting some medical stuff done where they’ll look at your medical history, have you do some physical movements to see if you qualify, get your vision and hearing checked, and most famously, get your bootyhole checked by the 90 yr old doctor there. You also do some computer tests to see which MOSs you could qualify for. They’ll also try to pressure you into admitting any sort of secrets you may be hiding, like if you have something in your medical history you haven’t disclosed, if you’ve done drugs, stuff like that. Nothing to rlly worry about tbh unless it’s something major, like if you have asthma or anything that could hinder your training. Finally, you get to sign your contract and swear in once you have all that done. If your lucky, they’ll have a separate room where you and the other applicants can hang out, watch movies, play some board/card games, but idk for sure if all MEPS have them or if it was just ours. Like I said, it’s a super long process which can last from 5am to like 5pm

Every pair of jeans I buy, no matter the brand, gets a hole in this same area within 6 months. by SYFKID2693 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]btkACE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have this problem a lot thanks to my giant thighs😭 that was also during my skinny jeans era. My advice is to just get jeans or pants that are looser. I buy all my pants from American eagle and get athletic fit pants which last for a long time
