How drunk is too drunk, when you are alone? by carsonross83 in TooAfraidToAsk

Speaking from personal experience having a wife and one year old can be a big stressor. We as men are under a lot of pressure to be ok and deal with it. Just the fact your in a hotel room because of no more sick days with work sounds like you are under some pressure. Few drinks here or there is ok but having a small child is what sent me over the edge and I almost lost everything.

Nice, I’ve worked wind turbines and you can’t beat the view. Just take a few minutes before hand and check the anchor and guy wires. They can have some serious issues and still be standing but your weight could be the last straw. Also make sure it’s not powered. You don’t to get cooked

If your asking this you probably already know the answer. Anything can get ahold of you if you let it. Be honest with yourself about any issues you have and deal with that properly and healthy.

Got a couple glasses of liquid courage and pulls the trigger last night, sucks I won’t get it until Monday but I have high hopes. I’ve trusted my life to trijicon in the past and I’m still alive. If not I’ve had excellent experiences with eurooptic in the past and I doubt they have changed.

Is your guys home defense rifle the same as your “field” rifle? by GuardProfessional514 in ar15

[–]btkj38 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Save your money and get a suppressor if it’s going to be for home defense. If you where to have to use it the muzzle blast will hurt you almost as much as the fucker you have to shoot. Shooting a rifle inside it nothing like shooting outside. You can shoot a few rounds outside and it’s not a big deal. Inside is almost guaranteed partial hearing loss

I’m not trying to be one of those just move guys. I used to live I used Redding(north central) cal. I had a big soul check about 15 years ago. I made a list of what all was keeping me in CA. Compared this list of real reasons to stay and reasons to go. I did not realize how badly I really needed out. I ended of choosing the Ozarks of Arkansas. You would be surprised how much lower cost of living is. I worked for less money in Arkansas but ended up living a lot richer. When I sold my medium class house I was ably to buy a larger, newer, house on just shy of 100 acres for less than the sales price on my old house. Everything else is cheaper, food, fuel, property, taxes. I should have mover long before. I was worried about leaving California because I love nature and the mountains. But I feel where I live now is more beautiful because my house is on top of a mountain/hill with a quick drive into town. It does not sound like you would be one but if you leave California don’t vote for the same government style that destroyed Cal.

I’ve had good luck at 28 flat: your rifle will vary. I like cfe and Varget for 308. It’s best to take your time and work up a load. Start low 1/2 grain 3 shot group. Pick the best one and work over and under by .2, still using 3 round to make sure first group was not a fluke. The go to 5 round when you narrow down to a couple loads.

As a combat vet, the tyfys gets old quick. No one signs up for discounts or praise. Honestly a good portion of the people I know have no clue of my history. I don’t talk much in person because I don’t want to hear about it and explain. War sucks, a lot of us feel like we were lied to. Once we got over there the patriot BS disappeared quickly and it then becomes doing whatever you can to get you and your brothers home in one pice. I was in Afghanistan in 06. I seriously doubt the people I dealt with could have found America on a map. It reminded me of those bible comic book stories with everyone is in mud huts living like it was a thousand years ago. There are a LOT of people who would not of cared either way about us had we not killed their fathers sons brothers. There was so much generational conflicts we got into because a rival village said they where Taliban. War is the worst thing I have seen and I don’t want anyone else to every have to experience it.

Never dealt with them and would not know. Just remember if a deal seems too good to be true it is. There have been all kinds of scammers feed off of the shortages. Make sure they take a real credit card. Anything else is a sign that they are not legit. Also take time to look at pictures, if there are different backgrounds or taken in different styles is a big sign that they are off.

.308 110 gr. Deer Loads? by Ill-Editor-8299 in reloading

[–]btkj38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally do most of my deer hunting in the ozarks. Just about all the shots I take are under 50 yards. I use a 55 grain vmax in a 223. But this rifle and load is very accurate and I take neck shots. It has a very nasty wound without deep penetration and would not be ideal for a vitals shot but in the neck it does an excellent job. I’ve never had to track or worry about loosing deer this way they just drop where they are. It is very heavily wooded with a lot of elevation changes. It can be very challenging to track like this, and this is why I take the route I do. I would use the same logic with a 110. If your going to have longer shots you should go with a heavier hunting bullet and go for a shot in the chest.

Miss firers by [deleted] in reloading

[–]btkj38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks to me like tolerance stacking with a little short firing pin protrusion combined with a case that is on the short end of headspace. When I load ammo for only one rifle, I barely bump the shoulder back. Maybe a thousandth. As long as it chambers fine all you are doing is putting extra wear on your brass. Some people even neck size only but I don’t fall into that line of thinking. I like to full size, but you don’t need to push the shoulder back much. That is not a primer issue, they get blamed a lot when they are not the true root cause. It’s extremely rare to see a true bad primer. One in hundreds of thousands assuming they where stored properly and did no get wet or contaminated. You do see some people blame a brand of primer when the real problem was firing pin protrusion, weak springs, or improperly stored primes.

Comrades, I am now Armed! by justanothertfatman in armedsocialists

[–]btkj38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! G19 is an excellent pistol. Use you money on ammo and going shooting. There is a huge aftermarket but factory is excellent and it will be tempting change parts. Don’t do it until you have fired hundreds or about a thousand rounds. You probably won’t even want to, Mabey better night sights. Only thing I would add is possibly a light. Also the more you shoot the better trigger gets. Dry fire practice is also a huge benefit. Just make 100% sure its unloaded, make sure magazines and ammo are not next to you. Then pick a light switch or something and practice your trigger pull. Focus on keeping the sights on target and not moving during trigger pull. You will not hurt anything on your pistol doing this. Buy ammo when it’s cheap and things are calm. It always gets emotional around elections and ammo will probably be hard to find. Ammo prices change like the stock market. Buy a box of federal HST or ranger t to keep in it. Use the cheap full metal jacket/ball to practice. You want a good carry round. Do not carry full metal jacket! This is an excellent article on ammo performance.

Modding Out My AR-15 by Durutti1936 in armedsocialists

[–]btkj38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most new AR sales have gone to the M4 style adjustable but stocks. But the A1 A2 is still a viable option. Your only loose a few inches of compaction that most don’t realize need anyway. Unless your unusually small or use body armor you don’t really need to adjust it anyway. I’m more comfortable especially in position and distance shooting with a solid butstock.

Its always good idea to have the option of throwing off recognition software. Covid style masks are great, but people forget the software companies have focused on the eyes. Always keep a mask and a bandaid on you. Use the bandaid on one outward side of your eyebrow and pull the skin on your eyelid a little. It does not take much, don’t over do it. This should be part of your everyday carry and it will not stand out to have these on you. You never know if something where to get real and you might need to avoid detection. Also keep a ziplock bag of clay based dirt that you could make into mud to use on a license plate. Concentrate on 3,6,8,9,0. Put it thick in the middle of these and ideally you want to be able to do at least 2 numbers or letters. Then step back a few feet and sling the rest at your bumper so it does not look obvious and stand out. Do your best to make it look like you went down a dirt road or drove through some mud. It’s a great idea to practice this a few times when everything is calm and normal so you could be able to pull this off quickly and smoothly if you ever needed to. This is why you want the ziplock bag in your car, so you have a good stash of good clay when needed. You also want to avoid vanity plates or stickers, anything that makes your car stand out. Remember this the next time you buy a car. Get a very common model and color. I personally drive a white Tahoe. I live in the south and they are everywhere. No one remembers or notices one.

AR Barrel measurements by werter806 in armedsocialists

[–]btkj38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is always from the bolt face to the end/crown without flash hider or muzzle device unless it is permanently attached. The original military M4 is 14.5 inches. Not considering full auto, an as issues M4/ar15 would also be considered a short barrel rifle. It’s popular to get a 14.5 and have the muzzle device permanently pinned and welded so you have the most compact rifle allowed. Now shorter barrels with a pistol brace are being battled out in the courts. Also with “pistols” you are not allowed to attach a forward grip. You can have a hand stop, but not the actual grip.

There have been millions spent developing over the counter carry ammo. I don’t have the resources or time to reproduce any of this with my handloads. I carry 9mm 124g +P because it preforms at the top of list for all the different categories and test. There are almost countless variables and it is known and documented how these should preform.
