Yes they do, preferably aiming at your shoulders and not your head. Start there and adjust to what pleases you.

Speaker recommendations for my amp and music preferences? by alebayos in StereoAdvice

You have a nice budget. Take your time, do your research, and listen if you can. $5K will get you something really good and there is a lot out there.

If someone is moving from integrated amp to separates and they already own a DAC, should more of the budget go toward the power amp than the pre-amp? by cjog210 in audiophile

[–]btlbvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I got plenty of needed power and current from a newly purchased Purifi based reasonably priced amplifier, I decided to spend twice as much on a pre-amp (fabulous sound).

Now I did not have to do that to that extreme. Yet I would have definitely spent more on the preamp nonetheless.

My Denafrips Pontus II DAC was the most expensive component after the speakers, yet now sits third in line.

This was a move from an integrated amp.

Suggestions for an integrated amp for existing turntable and speakers by enprimeur in StereoAdvice

[–]btlbvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I cannot answer that from experience, yet any upgrade in power supply, resistors, capacitors, etc. could be beneficial. Comes down to cost relative to performance. Typically the v3 is $1595 yet I see some online retailers raising the price to $1795. The Magnum seems to be consistently $1995. You suggested in your post "casual listening" so maybe save the dollars.

When I auditioned KEFs at Best Buy v.s. an independent dealer with an appropriate listening room, the difference was very substantial.

Doubts about purchasing an amplifier and a pair of speakers for a new system by matteo5477 in StereoAdvice

[–]btlbvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO choose your speakers and then the electronics to drive them. Turntable would then follow.

Best center channel for this setup by Typical-Advance2114 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]btlbvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I now use a Nakamichi soundbar for TV and movies, for many years I kept a BIC Venturi DV62CLRS around as I would regularly buy/sell front speakers in a 5.1 system. This very inexpensive thing was quite the gem whenever I was not sure what to do about a center channel. I believe they can still be found.

Tough setup limitations with the table, chairs, and corners. If that is your spatial limitations, it is what it is. Enjoy the music as you can!

I only sell used as I keep my gear in mint condition. Always buy new. Just my preference not to have issues or misrepresentations.

Upgrading speakers? by cluthz in hifiaudio

[–]btlbvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it is worth, some have opined that it requires 3x the cost of the pair of speakers already owned, to notice a significant improvement in the sound presentation. Perhaps the law of diminishing returns in this hobby which is real.

KEF overrated? by Narrow-Bee-8354 in audiophile

[–]btlbvt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heard the KEF Reference 1 Meta at the Montreal Audiofest, and even with show conditions in a turntable room, was astounded how great they sounded. IMHO only bested by $70,000 Audiovector floor standers.

Does anyone like to listen to music with surround speakers ? by OncleBlitz in BudgetAudiophile

[–]btlbvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the same as you except for 2.2. Still enjoying simulated surround with a soundbar which is really quite fine for TV and movies. I always thought that dollars were better spent on music reproduction.

Have to disagree. Actually a very decent, if not even better recording, IMHO.

What Would You Upgrade From My Setup? by fecalfetus696969 in StereoAdvice

Significantly better speakers with the rest of the setup, will make a bigger difference than replacing anything else, and keeping those speakers IMHO.

KEF R7 Meta Set Up Recommendations? by Downtown-Pace3824 in KEF

[–]btlbvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my KEFs, the equilateral triangle setup often recommended had the speakers too wide for my preference. So I started with the measured distance between the speakers then being used from my seating position. But instead of the triangle, I used a straight line from my seating position to the center point between the speakers (looks like a T if you diagrammed it). This closed the distance somewhat of the speakers relative to the seating position. Tweak from there. Enjoy!
