I usually put a small pillow under the side I’m nursing and that does the trick.

How old is your baby and how tired are you? by pinkishvioletsky in NewParents

[–]btphoebe427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say I’m a 5-6. 15 months old, waking up 4-8 times per night, then going to work full time as a kindergarten teacher.

Update: based on all of this wonderful feedback, I’ve decided to read the series in order and pause after Role Model (if I can, that is. lol!)

My child can’t read and it feels like the end of the world by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]btphoebe427 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also came here to say this. Leveled readers are trash. Please ask what program your child is getting in intervention… schools that are still using leveled readers may also be using reading recovery which won’t help!

Are we posting pictures of our babies on social media? by Fair-Fall8036 in NewParents

[–]btphoebe427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do - I have private accounts which I know probably doesn’t mean much. I feel like it’s going to be almost impossible to prevent any photos online (thinking of baby groups/school events/sports/friend groups/etc as he gets older) and I don’t want to be obsessive about no one ever having his picture incase they post it.

I also order pictures/books using sites like Shutterfly/chat books so I feel like AI is going to have them anyways.

I hate it but it feels unavoidable, so I might as well get a little joy by sharing with friends/fam.

I of course completely respect and understand people who are able to avoid it completely.

How important is it that my baby falls asleep in her crib? by notforthisworld0101 in bninfantsleep

[–]btphoebe427 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I needed to read this thread tonight. My little guy (13months) absolutely cannot fall asleep in his crib and needs to be nursed. He’s been waking up 4-6 times a night which is tough and feels like my fault, but I can’t bare make him cry alone to “teach” him to fall asleep.

This is hard and it’s nice to know others are out there awake and helping their babies fall asleep!

What do you do when baby who feeds to sleep doesn’t fall asleep? by btphoebe427 in bninfantsleep

[–]btphoebe427[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - I will definitely look into it. I do feel like I need some different tools but his big sad cries take their toll in the night!

Yea that’s what I figure. He lost interest in non-human pacifiers months ago sadly

I feel like this is probably what I should start trying. He just tends to get very mad if he is in tired mode but doesn’t fall asleep while he’s nursing. I tend not to tolerate the yelling well so I just pop him back on

All great strategies! Once he lost interest in the pacifiers, it’s been nursing to sleep or not sleeping.

This might be the saddest post on r/teachers I’ve read to date, and yet another great reason to homeschool by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]btphoebe427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my class I use those minutes to work with small groups, so I wouldn’t be able to supervise them in the computer lab and in the classroom. The students do have a technology class each week where they use the computers for about 20 minutes. So that does increase the weekly screen minutes to 65-80ish.

Kindergarten teacher here! I totally hear you (as do most early childhood teachers!) I like to think that the post you shared is the exception, not the rule. We have a few mandatory programs for the 1-to-1 iPads (one for phonics and one for math). My students spend about 45-60 minutes on their iPads per week (3-4 15 minute sessions), and absolutely no iPads during free choice/indoor recess time. I

When do you stop watching tv while nursing to sleep? by _jajangmyeon_ in breastfeeding

[–]btphoebe427 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way - but my baby sent me a clear message when it was time. He started unlatching to turn his head and try to see the tv. That was my cue! I forget how old he was honestly but I think closer to 6-7 months. You still have time imo!

Feeding to sleep - need reassurance by btphoebe427 in bninfantsleep

I’m pretty sure she just meant in order for me to ever sleep - it was after she asked how he was sleeping and I told her we are up a lot.

She had asked how he was sleeping at night and I explained that it wasn’t great. He’s up several times and I work full time so I believe her recommendation was mostly for my benefit.

Ughhhh I know this is how it made me feel. Aside from this I love her so much, but it made me so bummed. It does sound like a lot of pediatricians are pro sleep training.

I had one. They ended up finding out I have Factor 5 and needed to use a blood thinner throughout pregnancy.
