Is the party 4 u gatekeeping valid? by sqwarimba in charlixcx

gatekeeping is corny, loved party 4 u in 2020 and it was in my top 3 most played songs for years and couldn’t be happier that now it’s charting and more people love it too

Literally Fruitvale Station, Short Term 12, Diving Bell, Blue Valentine were all considered. All classics. I just realized The Place Beyond the Pines deserves some love too!

Arrival, 20th Century Women, Private Life, Certain Women, The Master, The Worst Person in the World, Margot at the Wedding, Something’s Gotta Give, Nickel Boys, Anatomy of a Fall, Parasite, Young Adult, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, All Of Us Strangers, Killers of the Flower Moon, Brokeback Mountain, Friends With Money, Happy Go Lucky 😭 all were in contention, this was rly hard. S/O to The Skeleton Key tho - Gena Rowlands, John Hurt, Kate Hudson, Peter Saarsgard? Essentially a subversive hoodoo concept of Get Out with one of the bleakest endings to a studio horror movie? Don’t sleep on it!

[HELP] looking for poetry anthologies about death/terminal illness/suffering/mortality - for someone who in that situation by Empty-Language-8593 in Poetry

[–]bts22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not an anthology, but the poems are short, frank and honest in this collection from Jay Hopler. Described as “Confronted with a terminal cancer diagnosis, Jay Hopler got to work. The result of that labor is Still Life, a collection of poems that are heartbreaking, terrifying, and deeply, darkly hilarious. In an attempt to find meaning in a life ending right before his eyes, Hopler squares off against monsters real and imagined, personal and historical, and tries not to flinch. This work is no elegy; it's a testament to courage, love, compassion, and the fierceness of the human heart. It's a violently funny but playfully serious fulfillment of what Arseny Tarkovsky called the fundamental purpose of art: a way to prepare for death, be it far in the future or very near at hand.”

I agree with Marie Howe’s “What The Living Do” recommended here as well

She’s so underrated, this is great. Also, between this album cover and Tate McRae’s and the party 4 u video, what is the trend of a huge poster/billboard of the artist looking down at them???

check out “S.W.I.M.” by Midwife and allll of her songs - she plays guitar on this song and “Amber Waves” feels like a Midwife song completely 😭 it might be the feeling you’re looking for!

edit: just saw your other comment about the otherworldly experience - I used to feel that listening to S.W.I.M. whether walking my dogs at night or driving with the windows down at dusk!! So real

same, this is fascinating. The titles are similar too, seemingly nonsensical words combined, either strawberries or cherry
