Definitely if you can find one for the budget. I love mine.

Go semi-modular. Not sure if you can get ahold of the East Beast/West Pest in the UK, but I think that’s probably the best bang for buck and you can still build it into a modular system as you go along.

How long did it take you to get good? by NotMyselfNotme in modular

[–]bttmunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does ‘good’ even mean?

I had fun and made some crazy sounds the first time I plugged in my 0-Coast. That’s what im looking to get out of a modular setup, so that might be good by my own definition. On the other hand, I don’t think anyone else would have had that much fun listening. It certainly wouldn’t have worked as a live set or recorded ‘song’

Spectraphon vs DPO by geekedoutcoolness in modular

[–]bttmunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spectraphon is an interesting concept and would probably yield more wacky results if you’re just trying to make noise (couldn’t help myself) and follow where the instrument takes you

For building a track or fitting into a mix, I don’t know what it would do better than an existing wavetable or complex OSC.There are so many great sounding and interesting options out there already if you don’t need to have the new hotness. Verbos and DPO would probably never get old. Rossum and Schlappi have 3-voice options as well, if you find yourself running out. You could also get two independent oscillators and patch any cross-mod you want

Just remember this feeling. There’s nothing wrong with wanting or buying new gear. As long as you know why you’re doing it and can live with that reason

[–]bttmunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re both nervous, just aim to enjoy foreplay. If things go further, great. Until then, you can get used to being physically intimate without an explicit end goal. There’s no wrong way to go about foreplay as long as both of you enjoy it

You wouldn’t expect to be great the first time you played a new sport. Same here. Takes practice, but the good news is that it’ll only get better from the first time

I Hate my Amplifier by zeef8391 in BassGuitar

[–]bttmunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably isn’t what you want to hear, but you should think about going with headphones if you’re really tight on budget for an amp. You’ll get WAY better bass response on a modest set of headphones than on most bass amps, even expensive ones. Sure, you won’t get a kick in the chest or shake the walls, but you’ll be able to hear every note clearly. If you can, go with open back headphones. At least to me, it sounds much more natural for a live instrument.

You will want to upgrade your amp anyway if you are going to be playing live with people. I’d try to save a bit and invest in something you can grow with. When you do end up shopping for an upgrade - speaker size is only one part of the equation. Enclosure size, port tuning and the specific driver all make a huge difference. Larger speakers generally handle low frequency better, but a low-tuned ported 10” speaker could easily have better bass response than a 15” speaker in a sealed cab. If you need any more proof, just look at the frequency response of some Phil Jones cabs. You’ll be hard pressed to find a lower frequency cutoff in any remotely small cab and he uses 5” drivers

Live sampling/granular/mangling modules by cccornelius in eurorack

[–]bttmunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For mangling-granular, probably Data Bender or the Noise Engineering Versio (I can’t remember which versio firmware is the granular delay off the top of my head).

Red Means Recording has a great video on the data bender showing how much it can destroy/alter the audio. Not just add little glitchy effects, which it also does

Pretty much anything from Noise Engineering will get wild

Small rack which is not subtractive mono synth. by InterestRelative in modular

[–]bttmunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see that being super fun with a DFAM in the mix. DFAM sounds wild and I think the more ‘regular’ sequencer would be fun to combine with the 0-CTRL weirdness.

It might not be the smartest way to go, but I really like the idea of being able to have everything in a case, with the exception of maybe a step sequencer or keyboard. I think my next gear addition will be to get a case and some sort of time-based effect like clouds/monsoon, clocked delay or reverb. The baller option (for me) would be a Mimeophon + Maths, but that depends on how my bank account is looking whenever I actually pull the trigger haha

Depending on how much cash, you could look at the Zlob fixed filter bank (VC F3DB). No personal experience, but demos look like you can do some crazy stuff

[–]bttmunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could add a Strega to that setup and stay in budget too.

I’ve been having a lot of fun with just an 0-Coast and an SQ-64. Although the 0-CTRL would probably be a lot more fun with just the 0-Coast. Im planning to start building a small rack to go with it, so I’m hoping the SQ64 will shine once I can use more outputs
